Thanks for the video. But this is far from being the world's largest high power rocket launch. I reckon that the Artemis1 teams will have something to say about that! 😉
@@RWBHere The title is in reference to the event itself being the largest rocket launch. Not a single rocket within the event being the world's largest.
I built tiny little model rockets when I was in junior high school in the 90s. They used A and B motors, mostly…my buddy bought a multi-stage D motor rocket once (it was called ‘The Magnum’), but it only lasted one flight. Anyway, I really wish I had stuck with the hobby. These guys are out there having so much fun! The ‘Sumo’ rocket is insane!
Can't believe how fortunate we were for such beautiful weather for the entire launch weekend! We lucked out to have low winds, blue skies, and reasonable temperature. Nice video, loved the interview with Bryce about Sumo & Porthos.
Brings back good memories for me. I was a TRA member from 1987 to 1993 and wrote occasionally for the Tripolitan and later HPR magazines. Thank you for covering the LDRS launch #39 !! I remember LDRS #1
OMG!! Finally!! Rocket launches filmed artistically and with such finesse. SUBBED!! I'm a level 2 Tripoli member from Florida and man oh man did I want to go out there. Thank you so much for filming this in such a great documentary format that made me feel like I attended. Cheers.
I loved watching this. It'd have been nice to seen snips of deployments or close-to-landing but probably impractical for the frequency of launches. Thanks for sharing this with us!
gawd Im old... My first big launch was LDRS8... 31 yrs ago... wonder what the membership #s are at now... When I joined Tripoli I was given member # 539... I still have a motor from LDRS8 I never used... a K-500... wonder if its still viable ;) and the most famous quote from LDRS8 was " Keeeepp your I onnn the raaaawwwwkit" mentioned many times by Moose Lavigne... that was some really awesome times... glad I had the chance to do it.. hope your memories of LDRS39 will be as memorable to yall as LDRS8 was for me...
If you build one with 3 stages, I'm not sure you would be able to recover it, as it would probably be in orbit. I would love to see that! Even more than I loved seeing this. Congratulations on success in such an epic project. Thanks for the great content.
Awesome video, can't wait for part 3! If you're based out of Boise you should think about coming up to Pasco, WA for the Tri-city Rockteer's Sodblaster launch some time. 4 days of flying over labor day weekend, the wavier's only up to 9K but the recovery field is literally a sod farm so that's super nice.
Dang. Here in Central Florida we lost our launch field (private property), the schools all have fences and even the Volusia County Fair Grounds are Private Property. We cannot even launch small hobby grade rockets.
@@RocketVlogs I may need to check them out. It's just that it is well over an hour away. The field we used to launch at was only about 10 minutes away and we went almost every weekend! Then with the pandemic closing schools the kids and I would sometimes go several times a week after they were done with "online school". WE GOT SPOILED!!! It was great, my 9 year old daughter could measure the angles and calculate altitude. We even had contest where everyone tried to predict the altitude of their rocket/engine combo. Closest to the predicted altitude would win $10 or some token prize. Now our rockets gather dust. ugh!
I'm entirely unfamiliar with high power rocketry. Only did some Estes models in my youth. That said, those "dark matter" engines are wicked! The pulse is so fast and they seem to always whistle with velocity, similar to what one reads about the old German 88 rounds.
@@RocketVlogs Is that what creates the whistle? It did appear that some of the other rockets were traveling just as fast but that whistle seemed unique to the "dark matter" engines...and the "won't be" rocket, which seemed to employ another type of engine but did also whistle like a banshee.
I love the hobby, and I'm not trying to bash it, so please correct me if I'm wrong. The reason I haven't joined a club, and participated in events, is because someone else launches my rocket at events. Building it is half the fun, pressing the button is the other half. Regardless of if I have a catastrophic failure, or complete success, I want it to be done by my hands. Is that typical protocol, or am I over-thinking the entire situation?
nice video work man wish I could get to a ldrs or any large launch in the west I live in tenn and 12,000 is all we get and only during non harvest and grow month I fly near Huntsville AL with HARA rocketry very good guys but no reason for a level 3 here
Why do people who record rocket launches refuse to turn off auto-focus? That's why videos keep getting blurry after the rocket has taken off. Great videos otherwise.
yes. Idk why anybody filming any aerial activity ( rocketry, astronomy, aviation, weather) haven't figured out the mandatory "fixed focus set at infinity" ( for 90% of situations. You guys who know what you are doing, I'm not talking about you). All of those hours and expensive gear gone to waste because of crap recordings
Unfortunately, it's inside the lens and isn't noticeable through the viewfinder so I had no idea it was there until it was time to edit. Looking like I'll have to purchase a new lens.
@@RocketVlogs That's too bad because you've got some GREAT videos of launches and nice interviews (those seem to be a different camera as no smudge). Hey really no problem (at first I thought it was my iPad so much relieved! LOL!) Seriously NICE JOB and I've been to LDRS 12, 28, 33 and 34 but back living in Belgium now it's a bit more difficult. Hoping for 2023! Here's a link to a video I did of my Belgian Flag Endeavour launched in northern Netherlands 13 June 2021 - about 5 cameras involved in this one! @@stephenschulte3996 Yeah I was a bit let down when I saw the footage, but I'll have a new lens before the Airfest video series here in the next couple of months. The camera is the same for the B roll and interview shots (at least in this one) but with a shorter lens on it.
@@RocketVlogs Lens specks mostly focus out unless in direct sunlight. It doesn't change shape or position when zooming either, so probably just a dust mote on your sensor.

A friend (and rocketry legend) has done multiple crazy stage rockets, including one well over 150,000 feet up!
Here's the video!

Cool to see the Sumo and Porthos and to hear the story behind them.
Nice flights, smoke and flames.
Great vid.. Thanks for producing and thanks for posting.. I wish I was there..
Is the doing the video trying to balance on a ball while from liming?
Why is it the last year that Bonneville Salt Flats will be used to host rocket launches?
FAA from Salt Lake says that it disrupts traffic patterns too much.
Why will it be the last time at the salt flats?
My son tells me it's a major aviation corridor and just too tough to get the necessary waivers.

I’m going to do a flight at mwp. It will be a wildman 38mm Blackhawk with a binder design max q fin can I will fly it on a j510.

the rocket that flew at mark 18:06, can you let me know who's that was? I think it may have been mine but wanted to confirm.
