How I remember. Married my wife of 35 years in January of that year. Three children and nine grand children later. The 70s and 80s were unquestionably, the times of my life.
There must've been a lot of good marriages in 1987. My wife and I as well as another couple that we're friends with are still together. The 70s and 80s were good times for sure but, for my wife and I, the time spent with our twin 5 year old grandsons now are even better.
I married my husband in January of that year also! 35 yrs coming up on the 31st. 3 children also but only 3 grands. And I agree! 70’s and 80’s really were the best times!😄
We married Feb of this year, 35yrs here too!!! 3 great kids, 7 grandkids n ALL on the Honor roll! My daughter is a spec needs teacher, and her house is like ours was now. Open door policy. All kids,/teens on that island know if they are hungry, tired, need a shower, a safe place to sleep just come on in. I'm so proud she has kept that tradition alive.
I was 18 in 1987. I remember all of this. The 80s was a fun decade to grow up in. Listening to hair metal as well as thrash. Drinking beer and smoking weed. Man, did we have a blast! What great memories.
Also in 1987... "Full House" starring John Stamos, Bob Saget, Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin and Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen premiered on ABC. "Finders Keepers" hosted by Wesley Eure premiered on Nickelodeon.
Being born in the 70', having my most formative years being the 80's and graduating high school in '91 certainly allowed me to have some very, very good times. A great many of those times were had with Mötley Crüe (and other heavy metal bands) serving as the soundtrack and maybe some small inspiration. Great time to be alive.
I can honestly say that this is the year where I really began to have memories. I was 5 and had graduated from preschool and then began kindergarten that fall. Times were much simpler! No social media, No cell phones, kids played outside. Oh the memories and good times! ❤

Was in the US Navy. Reported to my permanent duty station(USS Belleau Wood) for the first time(Jan 2). On Jan 9, we deployed to the Pacific for 6mos, returned to homeport in San Diego July 9. On a sad note, my beloved Aunt passed away in AUG at the age of 63.
Went to army boot camp on 28 January 1987. Arrived at first duty station in June, Bamberg (then West) Germany. Had great times there since the 1st Armored Division was an easy going atmosphere. Two years there, then afterwards two years at Ft. Campbell, where I nearly went AWOL because of a handful of incompetent imbeciles - one squad leader almost got 3 of us killed during a live-fire exercise because he didn't have us pull back when changing fire lanes during the _'Lift-And-Shift-Fire'_ maneuver. Other than that I enjoyed the time in the army. My ETS date was 5 July 1991, allowing me one last 4th of July celebration with my buddies.
I was an adult when "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" came out. My MOTHER saw title in "TV Guide" and had to tell me about this absurd name for a kid's show. and then she said that it was "bad enough that they were turtles AND ninjas..."😳...But " they were also TEENAGERS!!! "😲 I thought she was high. 😂
Ah, 1987. Another pivot year for me. I was sixteen years old back then and clearly remember all of the crap I suffered then as a teenager. The music of the 1980's from many different genres helped soothe my soul and helped keep my spirits uplifted enough to carry on.

87 was not a good year. Lost my mom. I'm 54 and the only time I ever had to take a plane anywhere was the day after that plane crash. Haven't flown since.
@@judsonkr I would suggest that anyone's fears about flying are rational. Especially back then when it wasn't uncommon for aircraft to go down... - whether it was mechanical related (airline cost-cutting negligence comes to mind) - shot down like the Flight KAL 007 and that Iranian airliner in the Mediterranean. - hijackings which were common then... - ... or planes blown up (Pan-Am 103). - not to mention that catastrophic atmosphere events still occur (1985, Delta Airlines flight 191, while *landing* at DFW Airport, Tx; wind shear event).
I was watching WTTW when that Max Headroom thing showed. We were watching Dr. Who, it was Sunday night. All the things described happened. Except the guy dropped their pants to moon the camera, then got spanked. It was totally bizarre.
I was 12 in 87 every one had cable but us. But got a TV guide every week we did. Remember Fox being a night thing before it was regular program's. It was like meeting the new neighbors on the block before the rest of the neighborhood. Not a brag we didn't have cable TV the only people that had it worse was the family that didn't have one because they are anti TV.
This year marked a literal and figurative downturn of the '80s for me. I was at an age where my parents (and society) expected me to take on responsibilities that I wasn't prepared for. I do remember the Christmas of '87 being a rewarding one, though.
Same for me. Was 22 then and jobs in Oregon were not plentiful. Drug addicted friends and my hostile folks is what motivated me to join the army. Wasn't too keen on it at first, but it was one of the few _Best_ decisions that I ever made. Got the hell out of Oregon and moved on in life. In April 1987 I discharged from the military and for the rest of the year my brother and a good buddy of ours had as much fun as was humanly possible without going to jail!
Where did time go I was 17 then ? Now I'm 53 ! Seems like yesterday !
It's like yesterday...where did it go ??
Idk where, but it's gone forever.😕
Thanks for this, I hardly remember the 80s LOL
80's the best era!
Just a normal early adulthood year for me. I nearly ran into Tammy Faye Baker at the mall and found a tee shirt with that slogan, showing splattered makeup, since she wore it so thick! I rarely have ever watched The Simpsons despite their long running show. Bart should be a grandpa by now!
How have you never seen the Simpsons?
I've never seen the Simpsons, but I remember the Butterfinger commercials 😁
@@gaywizard2000 2-3 full episodes tops!
I am same in Australia never seen the Simpson's
I graduated in 1987 and remember mpost of these stories fairly well. Can't top the 80's!!!
Those Max Headroom clips are creepy. If you've never seen them, you should. Two 👍👍 up to whoever pulled that stunt off. Yeah, it was illegal, but....
the fact they didnt get caught...
Wow! What a year to turn 21!!!! *That* was the big news of my life!!!!
I remember mid October 1987 the entire nation was anxiously waiting to hear about "baby" Jessica McClure and we were relieved to hear that she was rescued.
I was 9 years old. 80s were the best years of my life
My 1st time visiting the USA was back in march 1987 , what struck me most , was how clean the streets looked and how high the road kerbs were ,
Nice country , filled with nice people :-)

I loved Reagan, and all of these stories seem like yesterday, not 30+ years ago.
LoL you loved Reagan the tax cutter who crashed the economy. 😅
Trump erased Regans legacy and now Republicans are on the side of Russia!
Reagan 👆🤘🗽
One good thing happened in 1987...I got married!
Same here. I graduated from high in 1987and the late eighties and early nineties and the whole entire nineties were the best .
Best year of my life. Met the love of my life. It was a love at first sight but I let her go because she was still in love with an ex. It didn't last but a couple years for her and I always regretted not declaring my love for her before she moved away to be with him.
Wow 1987 I graduated highschool that year 1 of the best years
I was 7 years old back 1987 I remember the movie dirty dancing came out.
I was just 18 at the time. I remember the Max Headroom incident, and it's amazing that no one has ever figured it out even after all this time
The year, 1987 was my 2nd year working at Kmart in the S.S.Kresge Company, Days. Which was changed to the Kmart Corporation.
It was in 1987, when the name change from S.S.Kresge Company to Kmart Corporation. But, I couldn't remember the exact date.
but I was just a kid, I was just 8 years old. The world looked ambitious and everyday life was wonderful.

If that's all you think of musically from the 80's then you were lost or under a rock. Punk and thrash was king 👑
My mom's name was Donna Rice, so that was fun for her. I remember baby Jessica.
I was 8 in 1987. Remember baby Jessica. Also I remember when Rudy G was an acutal, legit reputable lawyer.
I saw the Grateful Dead live for the first time, at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. Also my first experience with psychedelics... I enjoyed both very much. 👍

1987. The year I was born!
I did forget one other event that also happened in 1987: "Square One TV" premiered on PBS in January of that year. It was a CTW (now Sesame Workshop) production that had an ensemble cast and taught kids mathematics. Among the cast members were the late Reg E. Cathey ("Pootie Tang") and Larry Cedar.

I wonder how Cecilia is and was the saving of her life on that plane for some special reason.
There was a documentary called Sole Survivor a few years ago. She's in it along with several other people that are survivors of other incidents. It's probably on RUclips somewhere.

Funny...I never saw "Thirtysomething" or "The Tracey Ullman Show" bitd. In fact, I had to look up how to spell both, because I barely remember them! I was age 17/18 in '87.

87 was not a good year. Lost my mom. I'm 54 and the only time I ever had to take a plane anywhere was the day after that plane crash. Haven't flown since.
So you will not fly because of a plane crash in 1987 but do you also refuse to drive a car?
@@judsonkr I know where you're heading. Some fears are irrational. That's on me and not for others to question.
@@joeheid4757 True. But KNOWING that your fear is irrational is half the battle.
@@judsonkr
I would suggest that anyone's fears about flying are rational.
Especially back then when it wasn't uncommon for aircraft to go down...
- whether it was mechanical related (airline cost-cutting negligence comes to mind)
- shot down like the Flight KAL 007 and that Iranian airliner in the Mediterranean.
- hijackings which were common then...
- ... or planes blown up (Pan-Am 103).
- not to mention that catastrophic atmosphere events still occur (1985, Delta Airlines flight 191, while *landing* at DFW Airport, Tx; wind shear event).
@@maxmulsanne7054 none of the things you list were common then or now.. You suffer from selection-bias.

Oct 1st 1987, Whittier Narrows shook all of southern California.
My opinion 87 was the peak of the 80s
I was watching WTTW when that Max Headroom thing showed. We were watching Dr. Who, it was Sunday night. All the things described happened. Except the guy dropped their pants to moon the camera, then got spanked. It was totally bizarre.
I was 12 in 87 every one had cable but us. But got a TV guide every week we did. Remember Fox being a night thing before it was regular program's. It was like meeting the new neighbors on the block before the rest of the neighborhood. Not a brag we didn't have cable TV the only people that had it worse was the family that didn't have one because they are anti TV.
They weren't missing anything. Look at TV now.
@@duradim1 Exactly. Plus with modern tech, you technically don’t even need a TV!
Ahhh, 7th grade. Lotta firsts that year.
Christmas 1987 was finally a good one for me since I was with people who I could trust - my comrades in Bamberg, West Germany.
