@@meedwards5 It actually was a cute show, I know, but the parody song was funny. Anything that gets extremely popular quickly it gets this treatment due to rapid over exposure. I didn't "hate" Barney. It's like people who hate "Nickelback' , Sure they arre not Led Zeppelin, But they FAR from the worst band in rock history. But they became so big for a time that it became "cool" to "diss" them. I do have the "stink eye" for the "Furby" and "Elmo" having worked at KMart in the day, And had to deal with THOSE two "guys" on a couple of "Black Fridays". LOL.

JANUARY 17: Paramount Pictures releases the urban cult classic film JUICE, directed by Ernest Dickerson. It starred up and coming actors OMAR EPPS, KHALIL KAIN, JERMAINE HOPKINS, En Vouge's CINDY HERRON, SAMUEL L. JACKSON, and the late controversial Hip-Hop icon TUPAC SHAKUR. The film tells the tale of four african-american teens from Harlem, NY who go through life scheming and involving themselves in petty mischief. But the films' protagonist, ROLAND BISHOP (played by Shakur), becomes frustrated that the group is looked upon as cowards by others in the neighborhood for having no power on the streets. After one in the group purchases a gun, the group plans a corner store robbery where its owner is accidentally shot and killed by Bishop. Thus fueling his ego and begins his quest for power and respect. This film launched the acting careers of Epps and Shakur.
FEBRUARY 25: Atlanta, GA superstar female R&B/Hip-Hop trio TLC releases their debut album "OOOOHH...ON THE TLC TIP" on LaFace/Arista records. The group garnered much positive attention from fans and critics alike due to their fun and funky upbeat sound and unique, colorful and controversial fashion. Their choice of outfits consisted of baggy clothing bombarded with day glo band-aids and CONDOM PACKETS; in an effort to raise awareness of safe sex. The album included hits such as "AIN'T 2 PROUD 2 BEG", "BABY, BABY, BABY", "WHAT ABOUT YOUR FRIENDS?" and "HAT 2 DA BACK".
MARCH 7: HBO Cable Network premieres RUSSELL SIMMONS' DEF COMEDY JAM. The hour long late night comedy showcase, hosted by comic legend MARTIN LAWRENCE, changed the face of black comedy as it was geared toward the Hip-Hop demographic; also giving a platform and rise to many black comedy icons such as BERNIE MAC, STEVE HARVEY, BILL BELLAMY, MoNIQUE, CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER, CHRIS TUCKER, DAVE CHAPPELLE, and KATT WILLIAMS.
AUGUST 27: FOX television network premieres the comedy sitcom MARTIN. The show becomes an instant success with viewers due to the rising popularity of comic legend MARTIN LAWRENCE. It also co-starred TISHA CAMPBELL-MARTIN, TICHINA ARNOLD, the late THOMAS MYKAL-FORD and CARL ANTHONY PAYNE II. The show went on to air for five seasons.
NOVEMBER 15: NBC networks premieres the 5 part docuseries , "THE JACKSONS: AN AMERICAN DREAM." The classic biopic chronicles the humble beginnings, phenomenal rise, and trials and tribulations of one of the most successful sibling groups in musical history. The film was directed by former Motown Records consultant SUZANNE DePASSE; who worked closely with the group during their time with the label.
NOVEMBER 17: Legendary rapper/actor/producer ICE CUBE releases his third studio lp, "THE PREDATOR" on Priority Records. The album, which continued the same militant and hard edged rhetoric as his previous lp, "Death Certificate", contained his most successful hit single, "IT WAS A GOOD DAY". The song was not only successful, but caused a significant shift in Cube's career and image. Other hits included the lead single, "WICKED" and "CHECK YO SELF."
NOVEMBER 18: Warner Bros. Pictures releases "X", a biopic chronicling the life and death of controverisal black nationalist, MALCOLM X. The film is the sixth motion picture directed by NY filmmaker SPIKE LEE. Malcolm, who is portrayed by legendary actor, DENZEL WASHINGTON, lives his early adult life as a womanizer, hustler, and thief who later becomes incarcerated for his activities. While inside, he meets a fellow inmate who is a member of the controversial NATION OF ISLAM, and he slowly transitions Malcolm out of his state of ignorance. After receiving a letter from the organizations' leader, ELIJAH MUHHAMAD, Malcolm then becomes fully convinced to join upon his release. While serving as a member, he quickly rises thru the ranks and becomes national spokesman for Muhammad and the NOI. His charismatic and passionate speeches draws attention and admiration from blacks across the nation as well as underlying envy from fellow muslim members and observation from the FBI.
DECEMBER 15: Legendary producer/rapper/actor DR DRE releases his seminal debut lp, "THE CHRONIC" on Death Row/Interscope Records. After a bitter falling out with fellow N.W.A. group founder, EAZY-E (which lead to the group's demise) in the fall of 1991, Dre goes on to form his own record label, the infamous DEATH ROW RECORDS, with former drug kingpin HARRY-O and MARION 'SUGE' KNIGHT. After the success of his debut solo single "DEEP COVER", which introduced an up and coming Long Beach, CA rapper SNOOP DOGG, Dre was inspired to produce a full length album containing fresh and hungry new talent, including Snoop; with an innovative new sound to boot. The album, recorded during Dre's House Arrest sentence, goes on to become an undeniable classic among fans, exceeding nearly five million units sold, and had a major influence on producers and rap artist in the days since its release. Hit singles included, "NOTHIN' BUT A G THANG", "LET ME RIDE" DEEZ NUTS", "DRE DAY", and "LIL GHETTO BOY."

I was born on September 30th of 1992 and I turn 32 this year. I often look into how life was then because I am just so interested in seeing how much times have changed. I remembered as a child it seemed like the days and months took so long to go by and NOW it seems like you can blink your eyes and the year is OVER.

You went to the naval academy there? I had a buddy who had his boat docked at the marina there. I spent almost every weekend there in 2010 helping with his boat and at the end of the summer there was huge party with all the naval officers and the students from the academy and a wicked fireworks show right in front of the Newport bridge. That night was one of the most memorable nights of my life because I was at rock bottom just 8 months prior when I left ct and moved to rhode island with nothing but a desire to start over. That place hold a special spot in my heart for that reason. And by the way, yes summer in Newport as a single guy in his mid 20s is about as good as it gets. 😂
