    Question for you: the title of this video mentions "hard leather". Are you ever possibly going to make a video on best way to harden leather? I realize that the different stain blocks and resists do harden leather somewhat, but not to the quality of armor grade. I've heard of a bunch of different methods (boiling, boiled beeswax, baking, solvents, etc), but I would really appreciate a video from an actually reputable source on leather working.
    Thanks for the video!

    • @Princearmory
      @Princearmory  Год назад +2

      It's hinted in most of our vids but gratuitously soaking the pieces in acrylic finish gets you 85% there. Additional steps can harden it further, yes, but you start running into more cons than pros (brittleness, warping etc) so I find for 99% of my clients, acrylic hardening is more than sufficient.

  • @Xoroxouselric

    An EVA foam build would be nice to see, as i'm thinking of making an EVA foam build of the imperial knight in the future. I was curious as to how to get all of the leather tooling effects replicated to EVA foam. Like, since you can stamp the leather to make detail, i wonder if the EVA foam can be crafted much the same?
    The foam build for my armor project will just be easier and cheaper than trying to make it in metal, the price of metal is just so expensive right now, and that would take a long time.

    • @Princearmory
      @Princearmory  Год назад +2

      Yeah foam is dirt cheap and so easy to get into. You'll have a very hard time getting the same level of detail with leather, just due to the fact you can get such crisp impressions with tooling but you can still do a lot with foam, you just go about it differently and accept that they will have different methods of decorating them. The shaping and structure carrys over pretty well though.

  • @NortheR2301
    @NortheR2301 Год назад +1

    that's cool but that's not truly hardened leather ^^'
    you should try boiling the pieces in beeswax, that'll make your leather REALLY hard.
    this is what I do

    • @Princearmory
      @Princearmory  Год назад

      There's way too much to unpack on that topic but trust me, or not, but there's a reason I go this route.

    • @Princearmory
      @Princearmory  Год назад

      I'm not sure yet how or if we'll part it out, the complete collection will come with a lot of necessary premium content that is really important for the helmet and other bits. But even at that, its still only a fraction of a fraction of the cost of a full custom suit of equal detail.

    Do your patterns have different sizes available? Like armor fit for me would never fit my wife.

    • @Princearmory
      @Princearmory  Год назад +1

      So the way I make my patterns is so the base size is meant to fit a 'typical male' but can be scaled proportionately up or down infinitely. Then for girth difference the sides can be brought in or out as needed. Big and tall guys have upscaled the patterns and some people have even made armor for small action figures too. And since most patterns are unisex, the can be scaled to fit any female too though some of our themes come with specific female variant breasplates.

The very steep, sharp nose of the fluted helmet is still a bit different and would not look nice with rivets. You could so easily tweak or mix and match this or some of the other designs in our academy for a demon style look.

      Ah you mean like an white or eggshell color scheme? Yeah that actually sounds really rad, maybe one of our students will have a go at going that route. I'd love to but I've got to get on to other projects so I'm not sure I'd have the time.
