Hi Mate - great video and explanations - i am getting the message on 4WD service on my Jeep GC 2015 V8. Any suggestion on how to fix this without going into expensive dealer? What i have done so far: Scanning shows DTMC C1403-92 and ABS U0403-00. Removed battery for 5 - 10 minutes Removed Transfer Case Control Module under the driver seat and placed it back for any lose connections. Added Transmission Fluid at 100K, now the jeep is 120K, issue started now at around 120K. Should i need to fix in following order: Change Differential Fluid? 75w85? Change Transfer Case Fluid? ATF+4? Change the Transfer Case Control Module itself? (under driver seat)? Check wheel sensor? ..... What would be the best sequence to troubleshoot? Did you just changed the Transfer Case Control Module and it solved for you? really appreciate your suggestion mate.
I would be doing the fluids anyway just for maintenance. Not sure about the codes but if you read all the video comments some people have fixed the 4wd service by replacing the module. All your tires are the same brand, model and size right? If not it will cause problems.
@@TheEddysGarage thanks for the reply - changing fluids anyway makes sense, i havent done since i bought the jeep i guess back in 2015. Yes all tyres are of same size and brand. I will read more comments on your page and probably aim for changing the Transfer Case control Module. Thanks again for super fast reply.
@@davidyoung3239 changed control unit, same problem. Then replaced transfer case fluid and problem slowly disappeared after a few days. It doesn’t do it anymore, as long as I let the car warm up. If I bang it into drive quickly, it occasionally still locks up. I’m guessing the gears in the transfer case are worn, to replace it Jeep wanted 3500k plus fitting. If it shits itself eventually I’ll replace it, for now it’s ok.
Thanks for this video! The clicking sound just started on 2015 Jeep GC Limited thso morning. Ordered a new module. Hopefully gets here soon. Couldn't be any easier to change out. Mechnic/Dealers prob charge couple hundred dollars to unplug a battery and 2 module cables!
A friend of mine with WK2 Diesel 3,0L from 2019 had a sijilar problem, but the change of the part did not help him a lot. He had to change also the motor on the rear differential, otherwise the TCM here from the video burns very fast. The local dealership wanted 2300usd for the change of the motor of the dif and potentially to replace the rear diff 24.000usd. With a second hand part for 370 usd the issue was fixed. So as a conclusion, make always the right troubleshooting before starting to invest.
so after the install my jeep which is a 2015 grand cherokee ecodiesel runs great. i pulled the unit up on my scanner and it says in 3 areas in red something about gear ratios that have to be enabled. not sure if this is something that the dealer would need to do. i will drive it some and see if it learns this or maybe my model and year do not have this option. but yes this solved my clicking and thump in second gear. you are the only one that had a decent video of the fix. thanks
Only day 2 after changing mine and it fixed the issue so far but I feel like it messed with the torque .. like that rubber ban feeling when you punch the gas.. feels little slower not sure if any one else felt the difference ?! My overland had the same thing 732AE
I did this to get rid of the 4wd service light, and my 2020 GC Trailhawk has an aux battery. I forgot to disconnect it and had already replaced the TCCM, should i repeat the process but this time disconnect the aux battery? The other issue diagnosed by the dealership was the rear diff locker motor.
Absolutely. If the rolling diameter is off from wear, mismatched sizes or even different brand or model tires it can ruin the transfer case because all 4 corners aren’t tuning at the same speed.
Thanks so much, hard to find a australian version of this issue, well done guys once again.Just a quick question, any recommendations on a good obd2 reader for jeeps, had one that didnt pull up any issue even though i have the car with skids on my dash?
Got the part today and put it in,drives 👍 smooth as and changes gears so nice.just have to get a scanner that has tcm settings(transmission),tried 2 scanners and they can’t see fault.
G’day mate, where did you source the new module? I’m chasing one for a 2011 WK2 and the Jeep spares department are telling me it needs to be coded in to the specific vehicle. Did you need to do that, or was it just plug and play? I can’t really afford a grand to clear a CEL unfortunately.
Mine is from the newer 8 speed gearbox so it might be different from the older 5 speed. Mine needed no coding and was just plug and play. I bought it from my local Jeep dealership on the Gold Coast Queensland but there are lots available on amazon now and it looks like Jeep has updated part numbers as well.
@@TheEddysGarage thanks mate. I’ll just order one of eBay I think. The dealer insisted that they replace it, and I think they’re just trying to gouge me.
It’s the part number for my 2013. There are some different numbers for different years and a Jeep dealer can give you the part number for your car based off your vin number
2015 jeep grand cherokee Making that noise at start Then making it when you change to the different gears 4wd service message pops up So i need a new transfer case? Does transfer case need to be programmed?
Try replacing the fluid and the module. No, the module does not need to be programmed (read the comments because lots of dealers try to scam you and say that it does). Make your you have all the same brand, model and size of tires on all 4 corners. Even if they have the same size written on them id doesn't mean they are the same size because different manufactures measure slightly differently and if it is off it will destroy the transfer case. Tires, fluid and a module are a lot cheaper than a transfer case!!!
G’day Mate thank you for the info.. Did your new Transfer Case Control Module come Pre programmed?? 🇦🇺GC jeep say it does need to be programmed and will need to come in…. So no plug in and go..?? Gold Coast🇦🇺

My 2014 ecodiesel gas 150k miles on it and is bangin into gears and juddering under load and all the stuff im used to when i drive a vehicle with a bound up transfer case. I need some advice - 2013 3.0 CRD - C140A-92 error showed up: transfer case motor control performance/incorrect operation. I also had the loud bang when changing gears (yet not the rattling sound) so decided to get the new module. The' bang' disappeared - now drives and changes gears smoothly yet for short time rattling emerged - then disappeared. The error initially disappeared, later on returned. When the error is displayed I'm unable to engage the low range; when disappears - I can get to low range... Any suggestions? Will it be the motor itself? The error shows the transfer case clutch beyond the standard position (or something like this) whatever it means... Did you ever have anything like that? Can you advise anything, please? Thanks

Thanks for the video! Installed my transfer case control module today on my 2017 Grand Jeep Cherokee and no more issues. I did buy it from the dealer and paid $280 (Mopar part). It was a different part number then yours. My traction control light was coming on as well as my "Service 4 wheel Drive" alert. I had the same clicking noise (I think coming from the transfer case) as well along with my 4 wheel drive coming on when not needed when making turns (you could feel the front tires grabbing on dry pavement).
I only had the noise on start up. Are you tires all the same size, make and model? If not it can destroy the transfer case.

Hi Mate - great video and explanations - i am getting the message on 4WD service on my Jeep GC 2015 V8. Any suggestion on how to fix this without going into expensive dealer?
What i have done so far:
Scanning shows DTMC C1403-92 and ABS U0403-00.
Removed battery for 5 - 10 minutes
Removed Transfer Case Control Module under the driver seat and placed it back for any lose connections.
Added Transmission Fluid at 100K, now the jeep is 120K, issue started now at around 120K.
Should i need to fix in following order:
Change Differential Fluid?
Hey I got the same problem, would it stop creeping/ rolling without your foot on the pedal when put in drive or reverse?
No mine was just the noise on start up but others have said they get more and more issues as time goes on with a bad module
so after the install my jeep which is a 2015 grand cherokee ecodiesel runs great. i pulled the unit up on my scanner and it says in 3 areas in red something about gear ratios that have to be enabled. not sure if this is something that the dealer would need to do. i will drive it some and see if it learns this or maybe my model and year do not have this option. but yes this solved my clicking and thump in second gear. you are the only one that had a decent video of the fix. thanks

All the tires are the same size, brand and model right? Did you disconnect the battery for a while? That can help it relearn
I may just have to get a locker motor as well, as the 4wd service light is still on.
Bad tires can ruin the transfer case on these vehicles?
Absolutely. If the rolling diameter is off from wear, mismatched sizes or even different brand or model tires it can ruin the transfer case because all 4 corners aren’t tuning at the same speed.
It's not under there in the 2014 jeep grand cherokee I'm working on. There's just an empty tub under the drivers seat.
that's odd. is the battery under the drivers seat? there isn't I don't want to be a smart arse but it is a 4x4 right?

Then making it when you change to the different gears

So i need a new transfer case?
Does transfer case need to be programmed?
Try replacing the fluid and the module. No, the module does not need to be programmed (read the comments because lots of dealers try to scam you and say that it does). Make your you have all the same brand, model and size of tires on all 4 corners. Even if they have the same size written on them id doesn't mean they are the same size because different manufactures measure slightly differently and if it is off it will destroy the transfer case. Tires, fluid and a module are a lot cheaper than a transfer case!!!
