here Simone uses more dramatic and theatrical vocals. the color of her eyes is the same as the cat on the ride. yes, because this song is about the opening of a new ride in a big theme park, and yes, it was on halloween 😁

I hope that you know, or will check out, the original classical piece: Danse Macabre, by Camille Saint-Saëns, written in 1875(!). This song is a (very well done) reinterpretation of that.
Also (I don’t want tot go in too much detail) it is firmly engrained into Dutch culture. This is a collaboration with de Efteling theme park, to celebrate the opening of the attraction ‘Danse Macabre’. The attraction, which uses the same music, replaces an old (45yrs) attraction ‘het Spookslot’, with the same theme. One of the iconic set-pieces was a yellow, floating violin. The old Spookslot was opened with Kate Bush singing. The new attraction opened on October 31st and is a reimagining of the same theme. It is not a coaster, nor a conventional dark ride. It is totally unique. The attraction is story-, music- and dance-based. Very European. You LITERALLY Dance with the Dead.
All this points back to tales from the Middle Ages, where the stories were built about dancing with the Dead.
De Efteling is a THEME park like no other. IMO one of the best (and oldest) in the world. Do they have the ‘fastest’ coasters? The ‘tallest drops’? No, they don’t. De Efteling are not about that. They are STORY TELLERS. A day at De Efteling will put you in a world of old (not Disneyfied!) European folk tales and local myths. You really should view some videos from vloggers who went there and see how visitors (especially Americans) are often delighted to learn of the fairy tales of old, but not in the Disney way, but in their original, and often darker, form…

Hi I'm new to your channel. I think you might also want to check out the live version of this song, which is available on the band's RUclips channel.
If you want recommendations for other relatively recent Epica songs, I suggest the following:
    * The Miner, featuring Asim Searah on guest vocals
    * The Skeleton Key, preferably the live version from Omega Alive
    * The Final Lullaby, featuring Shining a.k.a. Jørgen Munkeby, the official video (which uses footage from their 20th anniversary show where they debuted the song, but the audio is from the studio)
    * Kingdom of Heaven part 3, preferably the live version from Omega Alive
If you don't know, Omega Alive was their pandemic project, a concert without an audience. Visually the videos look a bit like music videos, but they are (for the most part) true live performances, with just a few pieces of footage spliced in.
Also, Simone Simons has a solo album out. I particiularly want to recommend the songs "Aeterna" and "In Love We Rust", both of which have music videos.
EDIT: I see you've already done "Aeterna". All the other recs still remain.

Thank you for the suggestions. I've been recommended Kingdom of Heaven pt 3 several times so clearly that's one I need to get to soon. I was vaguely aware of Omega Alive when it came out but I've only seen a couple of songs from it.
I definitely want to check out more of Simone's solo work.

@@rebekareacts Also, are you familiar with the Finnish group Apocalyptica? They started out in the 90's as a cello quartet, and made their "classical"-ish interpretations of Metalllica songs. Then they branched out into covering other bands, as well as writing original music. They lost one cellist, but gained a percussionist along the way.
In recent years, they have done two collabs that involve Epica:
      * Apocalyptica featuring Simone Simons, the song "Rise Again" -- there is a music video, but the official live video recorded in London is recommended
      * Epica featuring Apocalyptica, the song "Rivers". Again, there is an official live video of this, which is recommended.

@@eckligt I believe I've heard Rise Again at some point other than that I haven't really listened to them. Not for any specific reason. I just never got around to it. I will check out Rivers for sure. Any other songs from them I should put on my list to listen to soon?

Epica was asked to redo / reimagine the already existing musical piece Danse Macabre by fantasy themepark Efteling for the opening of their haunted dark ride also called Danse Macabre. Epica just added The Ghost In Me title to the already existing Danse Macabre musical pièce. The dark ride Danse Macabre is a run down creepy abbey and has a newly invented motion system that no other themepark in the world has. The dark ride Danse Macabre cost 35 million euro's to build and at the opening the waiting line was 4 hours. The story of Dance Macabre is that a choir that performed at the abby disappeared one by one.
They fell in hands of the unname-able a spooky entity that is represented as a cat with 2 different eye colours. That is why the singer was wearing coloured contact lenses. Efteling is one of the oldest themeparks in the world. It opened in 1952, 3 years later in 1955 Disney opened it's first park. Efteling is filled with fantasy characters, fairies, goblins and has a huge fairytale forest depicting life size fairytales. Efteling is the second most visited themepark in Europe and Americans who visited Efteling have called it the darker version of Disney. There are lots of vlogs on RUclips of English people and Americans visiting Efteling. Efteling is located in The Netherlands a 1 hour drive from Amsterdam. It has one of the most epic entrances of all themeparks in the world like something out of Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.

Thank you for the wonderful information. That attraction sounds magnificent. And the song 100% sounds like it fits the ride.

Just for the record, the original music is played at the attraction in the Efteling, not this Epica song.
