    Thanks for posting this Paul. It gave me the confidence to replace my own clutch pack. Is there a chance you can suggest how to test the breakaway torque? I clamped the whole case in the vice and inserted the driveshaft end with a torque wrench on and it wont breakaway - tried up to 100 ft lbs and dont want to go further and cause damage. I arranged the pack as you stated, so tried re-packing with a disc missing each side and confirmed it works (disk pressure causing it to lock) so my test initial test must be floored in some way. Any suggestions how to test?

    Great video as always, thank for sharing......got a bit an off-topic question: have you ever seen a Warner 10-10-024 Industrial transmission, it's a single speed forward-reverse with a torque converter, used in a forklift from the 1970s. II cannot find a manual/drawings or parts for it here in the UK, and on Google, this thing does not exist either. Don't even know pressure figures and port locations, any help would be much appreciated.

    Why didn't you soak the new clutches in the oil?? That's recommended for every brand new clutch pack

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  2 года назад +1

      I found it makes no difference. I do lube them and I do not get any clunking or chattering issues. Sometimes using the wrong oil creates more chattering issues.

    The Dana 44 in my CJ5 has a Trac Lok diff if I'm not mistaken. It doesn't seem to work anymore even with the correct gear lube and friction modifier . I will have to wait until I find a Trac Lok rebuild video or find a better replacement LS diff

    • @jamesduffey4442

      They are not difficult at all to replace. It's different then qhat your seeing in this video and very very easy to replace. Just comment the year make and model of your cj5 ND I can point you in the right direction. There is hundreds of videos on that trac lock. It's almost the same in Mt 95 dosge 9.25 rear-end

    Hi there Paul,
    I got through my Dana 44 finally. What a tedious task! Ugh...so now I am going through my dana 30. New carrier bearings and pinion bearing. I have the pinion depth of 2.250 starting point. The pinion head has 2 surfaces to measure inner circle machined, and the outer circle that is machined deeper than the center. Which do I use for the depth?
    I checked the pattern and it was terrible. That's whats up...ugh...
    1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, front axle.
    Ok. After watching the Dana 44 pinion setup, you depth checked to the center of the pinion. Should be good to go, but I would love to get a reply back on this.
    Thank You again!

    Thank you for a very informative video. I have used it as guide for my recent replacement of the clutch plates in my Jaguar XKE 1965 diff. which I'm currently also are swapping from 3.54 to a 3.07 gearing. After assembly the carrier with new clutch plates I noticed that the axles for the spider gears seems to be loose in the carrier housing. I am not sure if they were loose before changing the clutch plates. I have put the carrier into the diff housing and startet setting up and shimming the new ring a pinion. When I turn the gears i can hear a rattling from the loose spider gear axles. Is it normal that the spider gear axles are a little loose and rattle when turning the gears by hand?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Год назад

      The gearset should be tight. If you can move the axles independently then limited slip obviously is set too loose

    • @JesperSanderPedersen
      @JesperSanderPedersen Год назад

      @@GearBoxVideo Thank you for your reply. The gear wheels are actually not loose. It only the gearshafts which are loose. Correct me if I am wrong, but theoretically the shafts/axles can be loose if there is even pressure from both sides of the clutch pack. They are not fixed in the housing and only "sit" in the triangular milling. Or have I totally misunderstood the matter? For your information I have used a Spicer/Dana 44 clutch pack. Perhaps this is not working with the Jaguar/Thornton power lock even if the plates fits fine in the housing?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Год назад

      There are diffrent size bevel plates. The axles float since it is the bearing assembly that supports them

  • @drubradley8821
    @drubradley8821 4 года назад

    Is it safe to assume, that this carrier will fit into a solid axle DANA 44, like out of a Jeep?... is the strength less or more, carrier to carrier?... Again, thank you for the great content, as always.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  4 года назад +2

      Carriers have different bearing arrangements. So the Jag 44 has different carrier bearings than a Jeep. However you can swap ring and Pinions if you know what you are doing. Jags have bigger ring gear bolts and unique pinion splines. Carriers cannot be swapped.

      You just want to break the glaze. Depending on the pressure you can ruin the surface.

    I did not disassemble the differential (Just opened the rear axle housing). I have pictures.
    Where and how can I send them to you to tell me if I have a Power Lock limited slip? Thank you for your valuable help and kindness.
