- From Sonmarg Pony stand to Tajiwasi glacier - price -
1st - 1hrs - Rs 400/
Subsequently Rs. 300/- per hrs
Boots - 1 pair - Rs. 100/-
We took 5 hrs for the sightseeing.
As per the prescribed rate - Rs. 1600/- + Rs. 100/- boots = Rs. 1700/-

Rs.495/- for 1st hour and 330/- for subsequent hours and from pony stand to thajiwas is Rs.715/- to and fro and Rs. 220/- waiting charge per hour from thajiwas to Glacier it is Rs. 200/- more and waiting charge Rs. 220/ per hour.

Thank you for your video. During my visit to Gulmarg a similar incident happened. For pony ride 4000 and my friend agreed but I refused and almost a fight erupted. Later we a group of 4 cancelled. Then someone from Bengal came and told us they are cheating. They were cheated by charging 12000 for one hour.
same issue with us in last week they demanded 3000/- per person we bargain @1800/- but we are surprised when on the way we asked other tourist in marathi / english language the price is 1100/1200/1500
so dear tourist pls don't give more then 1200/-
I walked from Sonmarg to Glacier, because previous day, pony people had played lot of drama at Gulmarg .

Isliye tourist aana pasand nhi karte aajata hai ek baar fir dubara kbhi nhi aata
I trekked the route and it was just the easiest walk i have ever done...guys if u can walk pls dont take pony ride in sonamarg...just walk..its very easy trekk...u will enjoy walking
Thank you very much Bhoomi ji. This will help my friends who will have Kashmir tour henceforth. I was there in April and faced similar situation of hard bargaining and in several places, we avoided ponies and went by walk. One of my friend's pony returned within 10 minutes to stand in Baisaran, he was annoyed, went straight to Police and in the end, Police after thorough investigation, fined that pony wallah.
This is true, at Sonmarg my pony person told me the same about brokers,

Similar scams happen with pashmina shawls and kesar/dry fruits as well. Heard alot of stories of people getting cheated on these things.
Thanks for sharing. Very sad that such loot is happening in sonmarg and other parts of Kashmir. I think J and K government should take strict actions to curb such non sences. We as tourist also should write and report such incidences to concerned authorities.

The more I read and see these scams happening in srinagar I don't think many would want to comeback here. People do tend to go back to himachal, uttarakhand, kerala or any other state as they enjoy it there but srinagar seems to be making everyone think twice to go back. Place is good no doubt but people are bad. We only see scammers all around. I don't think any other state would loot as much as j&k does.
Same thing happened with us they charged 3500 per person slage riding 1600 per person after returning back we had filed the complained to the kashmir tourism dept we got our money back

Thanks for this video. I went to Kashmir last week and the first attraction is “Greed”, second is “Tourist scams” and last is beauty of nature. Forced tipping is so rampant, it looks like looting without gun is going on. There is no value of 100 rupees in Kashmir, its like 50 paise in rest of india. Now, i am never going back to Kashmir and will advise people to go to Himachal or Sikkim.
We also had same experience. But u need to be very careful n cautious if u really want to explore the beauty of Kashmir.

This is what I've been reading lately about kashmir. Soon I'll be visiting there hope its not as bad as I read.
Same happened with us...in sonmarg to zero point we paid 6500 for 4 person. ..
We paid 6600 for two persons for horse ride... we couldn't bargain much as we are South Indians..they have cheated us well.
Our driver (arranged through package tour) didnot help us in bargaining too

Actually tourists don't understand, it's not the pony wala's, shikara wala's, shawl wala's scamming you, it's your cab driver, who charges 20-40% commission for every service or thing you buy.

Just visited Kashmir and all this places except pahalgam. Enjoyed it. But it will be my last trip. Just because of these shit anti-tourist scams
I also feel, we should avoid Kashmir, they are looting the tourist, and making the trip very unpleasant
I gave 3500 for 2 person on 27 jan 2024, for Thajiwas glacier after so much bargaining, I think if u resist for some more time you may finalise for 1500/ person
Kashmir is hyped to much. There are much better in bharat to see. Before spending huge amount we should remember history of that place. Because history repeats itself.

The scam is there everywhere in Kashmir. The bargain will spoil your moode. The drivers are sweet talkers but they are with locals. There are much better places to visit in India than Kashmir

Last year I went 2 sonmarg with family,that day there is raining,but locals are looted tourist,they are talking in their own language,they asked 4 pony ride Rs 7000/to 8000/even they are abusing in own language,so I return back 4m sonmarg without any activities,so I will never go to Kashmir in future.

Kashmir is a safe place for solo traveller. However, be careful in some sensitive areas.
The govt pony rates at Thajiwas are also high
400 ruppes lagte hai for per person.i had done it..loot liya apko 6000 for 2 people...mistake aap logo ki hai...ase hi dai diye 6000 without bargain..2000 per person bhi loot hai..8 km baisaran valley kai 1000 lagte hai..

Our country has lovely places to visit. From the South we have visited so many states..... Gujarat recently.... and loved every one of them. We're not hearing nice things about holidays in Kashmir. So I guess we will not consider travelling there any time soon.
