  • I imagine an early stage Sonic Heroes stage was picked for the end of the Second third of this game purely because it was a stage not too heavy on changing between Speed/Fly/Power mode and there aren't a lot of rails. Bingo Highway probably would make sense for this stage of the game, but it might have left a sour taste with some people.
Act 1 was half under water and didn't suck under water (I personally don't mind water levels in Sonic games for the most part). The Act 1 music is pretty decent, and cannons to swap between planes and the rolling rocks are there for stage gimmicks. A solid enough Act 1.
Because the music of Act 1 wasn't tonally drastic from the original, I changed music for Act 2 to Emerald Hill Zone.
Act 2 is played pretty well as well, a little bit too much of a focus on Wall Jumping which is a way of introducing a mechanic for later levels/challenges (even though Green Hill Zone had it for one section).
The alternate routes are handled well, given you can't use most of the stage gimmicks from Sonic Heroes.
Espio the Chameleon is rescued for beating both acts. The leader of Team Chaotix kind of makes sense I guess, the only main story game they play a prominent role in. (Knuckles') Chaotix doesn't count as a main story game, and Knuckles was the unofficial leader of the Chaotix then.
