    I owe a lot to dirt cheap smartphones. A cheap smart phone helped my get my life back on track after I left my 12 year job at McDonald's in 2016 and got caught up in temp agency jobs and was evicted from my apartment with a baby on the way. $9.25 an hour working a kitchen, living in a 600 sq ft apartment to my grandparents basement with an aging car to $30 an hour, sitting on a forklift all day, back in my own place with my son and more things considered a luxuries than I ever had growing up. Learning to be independent again after everything fell apart all started with a $20 TracFone ZTE Citrine. I used a Motorola G 5G 2022 model for a couple years. Good phone.

    Nice little thing to know with most of these kinds of smartphones:
    It's possible to prevent the phone from installing random apps without your consent by disabling "Mobile services manager" (sometimes also called "DT Ignite") in the apps list under settings. Sometimes it's under "system apps" so look there if you don't see it. You may also force disable it using ADB but I haven't had to do that.

    I have an iPhone 16 pro max and a Motorola G54 and being honest there isn’t much difference in performance. A phone is a phone is a phone and everything else has come along to a point where even poorer quality (photos or video etc) is still way above average and perfectly acceptable for online everything (all socials and RUclips etc). My g54 has Dolby atmos, 120hz screen, 50mp camera and does everything I need it to do (I use it when I don’t take my iPhone with me and just need a good phone I don’t need to be precious about). Android and iOS are so similar now it’s irrelevant. Get what you like and works for you! Price doesn’t matter and phones are not status symbols anymore.

    I have been a Tracfone user for 20 years. They use Verizon towers and i always have good cell phone coverage. I have had 5 different types of phones from different manufacturers but all were Tracfones. The Moto one was pretty good but Samsung is the best one so far. My plan costs me about $22 a month with unlimited text and calling and 2 Gig of data usage. I usually order from HSN as they have some good bundles and usually unlimited text and calling. I still have to buy a new plan every month to keep my phone #. Every time I upgrade from one phone to the next model it seems to go up in price about $50 for the purchase but the new features seem worth it and the phone lasts me about 3 years at least. They never break and my last Samsung Galaxy A50 cost me $150 and to upgrade to the next one will cost me a little over $200. These new faster ARM processors keep getting better and faster every generation. I'm totally satisfied with Tracfone. Tracfone carries some Iphones but I won't pay the extra money for that cult company.

    • @k.b.tidwell
      @k.b.tidwell 4 месяца назад +2

      I used to love Tracfone, but when I had it they were using AT&T towers. I wonder if they use both now or if they totally changed to Verizon? Back then if you had a regular AT&T plan and you broke your contract phone, you could buy one of these cheap ones and simply put your sim card in it and carry on. Can't do that anymore because I guess they figured out that consumers were actually saving money that way.

    • @kronos5385
      @kronos5385 4 месяца назад +4

      It's possible that Tracfone uses different service providers in different parts of the country. When I moved from the West coast to the East coast I had to get a new Sim card from Tracfone but the transition was otherwise transparent. I did change my phone number to an East coast Area code and number. Didn't have to change phones.

      @kronos5385 8 дней назад

      @@ur.v2025 Yes, same plan but Tracfone now allows 3 month or 6 month extensions to be purchased. Used to have only every month renewals or one year only. I still have unlimited talk / text but extending data has changed somewhat to hot spot capabilities and you don't have to buy data and they've actually lowered the price to $15/month. My 4 month renewal was about $44 (without adding any additional data usage). I have a whole lot of carryover data from previous purchases as I mostly connect on data with WiFi at home. Still happy with Tracfone but you have to be careful when renewing because they have so many options and if you choose the wrong one you can wind up changing the plan to a fixed amount of talk / text which I think is a permanent change.

    If you want to try them with wi-fi only, try doing a factory reset and then set up the phones without installing any SIMs in them. Also due to new FCC reg, you can get the phone unlocked after 60 days, cancel the initial plan, and change carriers. If a phone has an older version of Android, it most likely has an old image installed and will need updates of the Google, Chrome and Play Store apps, before you can do anything else and not have issues.

      It's such bs. I managed a Cricket Wireless for a few years and first of all the companies just put more and more pincodes and hurdles for the customers switching services. Secondly it leads to fraud because people literally sell available numbers online that then stores use to give switcher deals to folks who would normally just be a new line and not qualify for the switcher deals on phones. If none of that made sense, good, your brain is working fine.

    I wonder if you can bypass it by doing a hard reset with the power and volume keys. There is no email so there should be no Google account block.

    I have an iPhone 12, which I got a little bit after the device was released. I actually got it for Christmas 2020.

    Having a Type-C USB cable/port doesn't mean much. It could just be a USB 2.0 speed over that different connector shape. Did you try different SIM cards to see if you could override the pre-payment requirement from those first two phones? What I was thinking is try using the new phone to replace an existing phone by the same manufacturer.

    I haven't finished the video yet, but do the first two phones (Motorola & TCL) that required activation have an option to transfer your service from another phone or do you have to buy an all new service plan?

      I would guess they do since you might have had one, then if broke or you lost it - you would want to continue your old plan and keep your number.

    The Moto G Play is the best of the bunch. My personal experience with it is that it's a really good budget device and I have used it often for work and works great for a travel phone if you don't want to risk losing a pricy phone while on vacation.
