      Not necessarily stolen its not uncommon for a school to sell a bunch of used equipment to a recycler and forget to remove a few of them from DEP. You have to remember how poorly funded some schools IT are. And if your disposing of 2000 laptops its easy to miss a few.

    Just selling stuff without bothering removing/unlinking the accounts from the devices is borderline criminal. Also having prices borderline more expensive than other marketplaces or even actual stores makes me think like they pick stuff from various sellers online (ebay/facebook or whatever) and just sell them with a small bump in price for a profit. In general this screams scam where they target random people surfing TikTok or whatever that think the Macbook they are buying for $300 is the same as the one Apple sells for $1000.

    • @CaseyDplays
      @CaseyDplays 8 месяцев назад +90

      This is a HUGE issue with managed Apple devices. The companies wipe the device and sell it but forget to remove the remote management, whoever gets the device doesn't know it's a managed device unless they try to set up a new user. So resellers open it up turn it and see it's ready (supposedly) for a new user and then sell it. Then the person who bought it gets stuck with a brick because they don't have any way to remove it from a managed device system. The ONLY way to remove it is for the original owners that managed the device to go into their accounts and remove it as a managed device. As you can guess, most school IT and office IT departments aren't going to bother helping you with that. Especially since they can't confirm you bought it legit and aren't just trying to unlock one of their many computers to resell. They can't know if that one has been sold or not.
      Officially, they are supposed to remove any device they sell from their managed account before selling them, but they don't think of that when they wipe them.

It could be reasonable to assume that some people responsible for getting rid of the laptops from schools wouldn’t know to do this, however, as a retailer that claims to be near-expert professionals, selling a MDM-locked device is embarrassing. So, the story they used for the tiktok story is not even their story, they copied a video from plug tech. It is a 1 to 1 replica of the original video that they recreated. The fact that they have to lie about sales says alot.

    14:34 Is it just me or are more and more places popping up trying to scam people that just want to score a gently used apple product? That price was horrible for an iphone 12 and it's condition was a terrible and selling you a macbook air that was still locked to a school is beyond sus to me. They are clearly not doing any sort of QA. They barely cleaned it (look at the magsafe port, I've seen ear canals cleaner than that).

    The unboxed MacBook Air with school data raises concerns about Strictly Apple's device handling and data security. Failing to reset the AirPods Max is also concerning. Ideally, they should attempt to reunite the MacBook Air with the school. The unclear return policy with conflicting information adds to the red flags. These inconsistencies make me wary of doing business with Strictly Apple.

    A lot of these tech places get large quantities of laptops from e-waste facilities. The e-waste facilities receive old laptops in lots from schools to be "recycled" but get sold for profit. Sometimes these places when setting up and cleaning the device forget to remove the school lock. The schools have a password for all the laptops to keep kids out of certain areas such as BIOS or certain websites.

    one thing i think you should have tested to make sure is that the replacement macbook isn't a ticking timebomb and also is linked to a school district.. usually can attempt to do a manual device recovery and do a fresh OS install (not just a simple factory reset) and either it may block you or once you get in the OS it is locked down... but if it doesn't then that is more assurance it's not tied to a school district, which if it is, may randomly one day (well after the return period) lock itself down when its hidden license expires or whatever.
