Normally we don't limit your phone sales at Walmart (I'm a sales professional for the phones in Walmart), only reason could be due to the fact that only the phone reps can sell multiple phones at once, not the Walmart reps

It could also be the manufacturer's decision. I don't work in the electronics department and I'm certain the only reason I don't is because I know too much about electronics (It only took me about a minute to help a customer with a problem setting up her new phone after a person in that department failed to do so in almost an hour) I'm just a cashier up front. Mind you, I'm one of very few full time cashiers because I've been working at my store for over 10 years, but I still have a lot more experience than most of the other cashiers. Electronics is my passion.

I work at Walmart as a cashier. The issue of only being able to buy two budget phones is either to make sure people who actually need one can buy one or the manufacturer is the one limiting the purchase quantity. It's usually the latter. Like when I sold over 200 vinyl folders to a customer. I'm almost certain she bought them to resell them. Once I hit a certain number over 100 even though I rapidly scanned as many as my slow cash register allowed almost half of them had to be scanned again as a new sale. And the most annoying part was before I could scan the coverage again I swear I had to hit the "OK" button onscreen at least 65 times to acknowledge it was not being added to the first sale. Of course I think their IT "Professionals" could use a lot more training to do their jobs to actually be considered professionals, but who am I to judge? I'll tell you who I am. I own a gaming desktop that I designed. Lots of pretty lights that easily show through the fancy-dancy tempered glass side panel. The front panel only has three RGB fans to show off.

It is if it's not connected to one company and you can't unlock it and use it with your other company when you don't want for example Verizon you want to replace them with AT&t but what happens if you have a contract or you can't unlock your phone in this case those phones would be better if you could unlock the carrier

Buuuuut if you realize you will likely always need a phone, contracts don't matter. Annnnnd the contract deals are better as well. $35 to $60 plans are usually cheaper on major carriers like Verizon. For me personally, I use Verizon, I pay $92 a month for 3 unlimited 5g lines.

But proto! Have you looked into visible, us mobile, or mint? I don't need unlimited, so I'm using the 15gb plan on mint, when you buy 6 or 12 months at a time, it's like $25 a month, I would switch to us mobile or visible because you don't need to buy months in bulk, but I'm lazy and don't want to deal with changing carriers

Late to the party but walmart electronics associate here! Our systems flag for fraud for multiple mobile device purchases at once, we also can't sell more then 2 gift cards at a time because of this policy. Our registers literally stop us from finishing the transaction if any antifraud wall is hit and management can't overwrite it either.
The only way to maybe get around this is talking to one of the phone vendors and getting a postpaid contract with a multi line (not the prepaids unfortunately) and even that can get hit with a fraud flag and stop a sale.

When I first started in Electronics at Walmart, I was told it was a state regulation, something about crooks buying a large number of “burner” phones. A later explanation was that certain independent online sellers were buying cheap Walmart phones in bulk and selling them at a higher price online. Either way, the registers wouldn’t allow more than two phones to be rung up per transaction. Though most managers preferred the sales so told us, for say a family of four, to ring them up as two separate transactions.

I have had good luck with Walmart phones. Just don't go too cheap. The $40 ones are good enough for some people, but are usually slower and have smaller storage capabilities. I am currently using an A14 that was $69, and have never had any lag, has 64gb storage which is enough for me since the sd card can store more.

They’re not manufactured and sold for $30. The price to assemble those phones is probably $10 to $25 per unit landed; the prepaid carriers sell them below cost and make up the difference on airtime, which is the higher margin business.
A bit like buying a Roku or Vizio TV these days. Notice how they’re cheap? Notice how they’re filled with ads? The ads are the bigger business.

The letters "TCL" give me the stomach-burnies. Although I had heard about TCL's infamous quality control, I rolled the dice and bought a $230 55" 4K TV from an Amazon "Lightning Deal" during the Prime Days. It had dead pixels and other problems. Re-boxing the dang thing and driving it all the way to the UPS Store was a royal pain.
I have a pile of TCL smott foans in my spare phone stash. They're similar to yours and cost about $6 each from ebay. They were sold as used but arrived in what looked and smelled like new condition. I don't like them, but they serve spare phone purposes

They're only that cheap to get you to switch to whatever carrier they're attached to, they lose money on each phone sold.

If you went for any of these phones don’t buy the plans that include roaming overseas because these wouldn’t get any reception in some parts of Europe. Australia/NZ, bad would be limited to 2G/3G service in countries that still have it available

Sorry but I follow my Mom’s advice, “If you buy cheap, you get cheap”.
No, I don’t buy Flagships at $1,000 or more, Instead, I stay with the mid range models that are half the price.
From Mint, I got a Pixel 8a for $399 with free shipping and it runs rings around my XR 2018. Better camera and better screen display too.
That 5G blazes twice as fast as the old phone which only got 4G.
That deal expired, but Mint is now selling the new Pixel 9 for $399 and free shipping, a better deal than mine.
But you better hurry, this is a limited time offer.
    You snooze, you lose.
    Pp

1:44 me too, I don’t know how they get to sell and make a profit by selling the phones less than 30$, I know that they get money with subscription and all that but how much does one phone cost if they sell it for 24-28$ ? It’s insanely cheap, especially considering that there’s internet, a camera, you can call, text, you basically have a mini computer in your pocket for so less than what you could’ve had 10 or 15 years ago… simply amazing

If you absolutely need a phone badly and it's on a carrier you're willing to/already use its fine. Say you get a tmobile walmart phone and you already use tmobile prepaid. Just throw the sim in and it should still work fine.
Plus these ultra cheap phones are also often quite vulnerable to various exploits that allow you to forcibly unlock and root them.

Straight talk is owned by Verizon, they have to unlock their prepaid phones after 60 days. You pay for the first month, skip the second month, call customer service to unlock.
