  • Mynydd Caerau is a lonely 555m hill deep in the South Wales Valleys.
This hill forms part of 'The Miners' list, a list I am compiling of the best hills in South Wales.

The valley between the two hills, plus the steep face give it a well earned place on the list.

Yeah, it's a good hill. A few hills in this area, but I think this gives you the best blend of walking and views.

Ah, Mynydd Caerau. One of my favourite hills in the Valleys. I love approaching it from Croeserw as the valley feels like you're in the Beacons. So quiet and feels so wild. Thanks for sharing this video.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Yes, I think it would be nice walked from other directions. Some great views and the long grassy top is always a welcome sight.

    Hello Kev. Really enjoyed it.
    Brilliant start to the video.
The weather hasn't been the beat this year for hikers hoping for views for miles.
That walk looked pretty tough in places because of the terrain.
Not many people would have completed your list.
Hope you enjoy a nice few when you finish them.
You had some good views and the birds were in full song.
    That was one tired trig.
    Good video mate.
All the best on the next one👍

Cheers Jamie. I've got just two hills left to rewalk for the list. I've got another video coming out in a week or so and then just Skirrid and Rhymney Hill to film and it'll be done. 39 hills and videos then!

      That's awesome. That's loads.
      I don't Rhymney Hill.
      Done Skirrid loads times.
I was up there Saturday, it was such a clear day. I walked it didn't film anything I'm hoping to camp there perhaps end Oct. Nice Wetherspoons 5 minutes away from the car park there. I'm sure you know. I look to seeing you finish them.
Really hope you have clear skies for your last two.
Keep sharing, your videos are permanently there and will encourage people to explore themselves.
I'm camping on Thursday Llyn y fan fach.
      All the best mate👋

    That was great Kev.
The views are 5:30 & 12:30 aren’t what I’d imagined. 12:30 through the basket was stunning. Can’t believe you were able to see Swansea bay from there. I’ve never seen it from anywhere in the beacons 🤷🏻‍♂️

Cheers Phil. It's a wonderfully isolated hill and the sea views are great. You definitely get the right balance of mountain and sea views. I don't think it is a well walked hill.

Quad bikes and scramblers. Least no crazy cars.

This is true. And I rarely see quad bikes or scramblers, despite all of the tracks I see.

Certainly has some far reaching views Kev 😊 yep June has been fairly grim hasn’t it, seemed to have one sunny week and then that was it 😅 hope we get more sunny days soon. I’m heading to wales this weekend to walk snowdon I thought I’d be safe booking it in for July but I think it’s currently down as rain again 😅 will keep my fingers crossed for some views anyway 🤞
