  • with all the rain we've had, it has meant that the local slug and snail population is absolutely BOOMING!! and I am not the only plot really suffering - talking to plot neighbours they are all suffering, even ones who use slug pellets are not being spared (which I found surprising especially after recording this and wondering if they help)
I can see some plots where they have not been overly munched as well, who have used those blue slug pellets so have decided to buy some to try and deter my beasties from eating my veg.
Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching....

You could use a beer trap, dig a hole so you can bury a jam jar, fill it 2/3rds with beer & it attracts the slugs, we've used them with a lot of success, doesn't look great though. Empty it out on a regular basis, refill & start again. Good luck

Greetings from Ireland, We have a major slug and snail problem this year. We use slug traps with a homemade bait. Use one cup of water and add one teaspoon of the following, flour, dry yeast, sugar and salt. Slugs are attracted to the yeast and they get a nice surprise when they hit the salt.

Hi Kerry I also have mega amounts of slugs that have had a party every night in my garden eating my runner bean leaves and stalks. So fed up have been putting netting around to try to keep them off, fingers crossed it works. Your allotment is coming along nicely, well done. Xx

Hi Kerry. So much of your plot is thriving!! Sorry about beans. I sowed twice as many as I needed..good job too..needed all them to replace eaten ones. Ive researched otganic farming or gardening site til Im blue in face. It is bamboozling...I plumped for Sluggo slug n snail pellets. I read reviews etc...spread sparingly near vulnerable seedlings...seems to work... birds still in my garden...local cats not affected( grrrrr!) Big hugs xxx

Hi Kerry I save small yogurt pots and pop them into the ground and add a tablespoon of salt. Hope this helps. X

My plants have been remorselessly slugged this year. I’ve resorted to beer traps but I’ve seen someone on another channel using miscanthus grass horse bedding and another using bran flakes so might have a go at these.

Yes please to Highlands footage and scenery! Does anyone have a way of dealing with thistles that is safe for dogs? I am plagued by them!

Hi Kerry, So sorry to see the devastation after all your hard work😥 Our neighbour has been using cups sunk in the ground filled with beer. He's had some success. I can't remember where I saw/read about a reel of copper tape. It was used to put round pots. Might be a possibility😒 On the positive side, your boyasan berries, not sure if I spelt it right🤔 are looking great. Fingers crossed the weather changes soon🙏 See you on the next one, byee 👋Jen 💕😘xx

Hi Kerry, I recently read that using used coffee grounds is a deterrent, I was in a coffee shop and a customer asked for the used grounds and she was giving a large bag of grounds. Might be worth checking out 😊

I’m repeating earlier comments, I was going to tell you about beer traps, they’re very successful, it’s so disheartening to have your crop devastated by the nasties. There are pet friendly pellets in Australia 🤔 not sure if they’re in UK 😊

Hi Kerry I save my egg shells to put round my plants. Do you watch Emma's allotment diaries? Emma has also had so much slug damage. She has used Richard Jackson slug pellets I think they are friendly pellets to use.

You could put beer in a container and they will go after the beer, no I have been in Devon for a while , so not sure what I will find when I get back, it will be several weeks back since I saw them. Yes I lost all my first beans. Last feel of my garlic it needed to be a bit bigger. There has been so much wet , for so long , I think snails etc have thrived in the conditions . I will be going back home maybe next week so will update you. My garlic was still green leaved when we left , with just a few brown leaves on the bottom. Yes I think it was me that mentioned I did as my mum had always in the fast. It is a shame if all your hard work comes to nothing, because you have allowed the horrible snails etc to eat all your produce. Remember it is you and your family going without. I am sure some pellets are pet friendly.

Slug killer that is good for wild life. Is the one I get is from QVC but it £12 a box and it ok for dogs and cats I been use them for 5 years and my 2 dogs been fine just give it a go

The bee said buzz off 🤣
You can make your own Nematodes for the slugs, apparently, rather than buy them. Google Slug Soup. I'll email you a link . . . If I remember 😬
My main problem AGAIN this year is field voles eating all the roots. We're on clay soil, so the no dig method is like luxury accommodation for them. I may need to rethink my plot for next year.
The basil is looking good. I bought a supermarket yellow sticker flat leaf parsley and plan to do the same as you with that.

For the first time in forty years we had no frogs this year, we also have very few slugs and snails, probably because we were flooded very badly for most of the winter.
