On this form, hitting under half of first serves, lacking the killshots/winners of the Olympics, passive, Popyrin is knocking out Novak easily. Last time I bet against Novak (the Olympics vs Alcaraz), I lost $500, but if I wasn't poor, I'd bet $500 on Popyrin winning. Alexei has reached a new gear and I think he's top-10 material. If Novak somehow gets through Alexei, Shelton is always dangerous on HC if his serve is serving. Raw power on serve, a huge FH, and athleticism can get you through many a match, even if your backhand is slice or bust. Hope Novak finds his serve on the practice court, or his title defense will meet an untimely demise. Definitely not buying the nonsense about him having an easy draw -- sure he won't meet Med, Alcaraz or Sinner until the final, but I feel much better about his chances against those 3 (except Sinner) than I do against the underrated Popyrin and the hyper-motivated-to-hang-up-on-weak-Novak Shelton. Those 2 players may lack consistency, but they bring danger every match. The only thing giving me hope is that this is Novak I'm talking about. GOAT until proven otherwise.

Just a little disappointed but not angry because Laszlo is also from Serbia but Laszlo is not a player for big things like Novak even though he plays great tennis at times. He doesn't have the mentality of a winner, he doesn't know how to play consistently at the same level for the entire match, there is basically no big difference in the game of the top 50 players, but it's all in the head.

@@milanavujicic6854 Thank you for the reply. I figured most Serbians would prefer Novak to win. But I don't think I agree with most of the game is mental in the top 50. It's a big part of it at any high level sport and can crush your career if you're weak mentaly but athletic ability (serve, forehand, etc), endurance, training, eating & sleeping well all play a big role as well.

@@badmanskill1112 Well of course, it's understood that at the top level you must have top level skills of playing tennis.
But the thing is, all top 50 players are regarding just skills, on the top of their game.
What truly makes the biggest difference at that level is how resilient you are to mental pressure.
