I'm a drummer and I know that recording drums on top of something already finished otherwise is probably the hardest thing to do, because I have done it on a few songs. To do that for a whole album of Killing Joke is remarkable to say the least. To have that work become one of Killing Joke's best albums... is beyond words. Grohl is a massive talent. Killing Joke is a constant inspiration to me so maybe I am biased....
@@lockandreload, awesome drummer, unarguably one of the best to have walked the Earth, but the Foo Fighters have done a lot for kids getting into decent music. They introduce punk, grunge and everything that was great about the 70's 80's and 90's to many of their fans.
yeah, I only got this album like a year ago but it quickly became one of my favorites of all time - and seeing this video, with Jaz Coleman, Andy Gill & Dave Grohl just working together like this, really makes it quickly apparent why & how it's so damn good
Yeah i just did some research on what Jaz did. For as long as I can remember we've had to sing the national anthem in Maori first then in english. But what I didn't know is that Jaz is the reason why we sing the first bit in Maori. He petitioned to make it official, which is cool.
The record is called killing joke (2003),some call it "the album ". The tricky thing is they already made an album called "killing Joke" back in 1980. The track they discuss is called Asteroid.
Pandemonium has never been released with an extra bonus disc....both the original and the remastered version have been a single CD. The remastered version did contain a few extra mixes from the CD Singles.
Thanks for posting this. This is really interesting. I never knew that they recorded the drums last. That fact makes the album even better. The album is one of the best albums i've ever heard.
He's a fantastic drummer, even better than a singer or guitarist imo. And I love Foo Fighters so that's a huge compliment. Check out Queens Of The Stone Age "Songs For The Deaf" and his Probot record for good examples of his drumming. Besides that, Killing Joke is my favorite band ever, so the pairing made me giddy like a schoolgirl.
Killing Joke's music is an epiphany for all music lovers, especially, rock music lovers. Dave Grohl played on this CD because Nirvana and Kurt Cobain was influenced by KJ's music. Listen to Come As You Are and then listen to Eighties. This particular CD is pretty heavy, solid and molded for the times.
@AfterlifeBlack - Nonsense. Guitar riffs are guitar riffs.,if that's the case, all distorted electric guitar music is the same. What KJ has, that no other band...3 things: 1.) Tribal style drumming 2.) Intense intelligent lyrics which precisely pinpoints humanities' condition 3.) Massive guitar work by Geordie that doesn't just play major or minor chords - There has not been any band yesterday, today or tomorrow that can ever match KJ's intensity, which is based on mysticism and prophecy.
This is weird,I was listening to this album last night on Spotify,I thought damn this drummer is so underrated,I've literally just found out it's Dave grohl, what happened to Ferguson on this record?
Jaz is sooooooo much more of a 'free-thinker' than Dave. Polar opposites - yet same hemisphere? Then again ...look where all the new inventions come from.
Wow! Read about that in an interview. Love them, but the "despair" he's talking about always gets to me. That can become pretty... uncomfortable after a while. I still keep coming back(??!!) Unique and disturbing voice... Dark stuff, damn dark, man!
Beautiful. I remember buying Kerrang magazine in UK and you hot CD on it...I fell in love Killing Joke from that one track..I remember walking to the bus stop at at 5am on my way to work (Electrucan Apprentice) and U felt ON TOP OF THE WORLD. I blasted it into me ears. Foo Fighters were my first live band at 16yo..got my first handjob..painters were in...Good times
Every Aborigine, whether American or English or New Zealands or Australian, they have had their struggle, which is a shame, since they own their land historically. ..It is not about attacking English territorialism, but about colonialism in general.
I totally agree, but New Zealand (in my bias opinion) has quite a few laws and progressive legislation which make the Maori "struggle" just that bit easier. Where as in Australia (once again my opinion) they have very few or no such legislation. If anything I was more surprised at why Jaz decided to get involved as I believe this would have happened anyway.
Comfort does not seem to be the major feeling with them anyway. As I understand it Killing Joke is mere an outlet of uncomfort,a form of exorcism. And.."When you laugh, you're not afraid, are you?"
There used to be a video up on RUclips of this same recording session and Jaz is being very sarcastic and derogatory towards Dave Grohl. That video has been taken down. Hmmm, strange that...
As far as Maori are concerned, they get some pretty sweet deals, like claims to land and resources and the like. But I just had to question the 'struggle for acceptance' part, the African Americans and Australian Aborigines have had a struggle.
@beano1eye Excuse me?Australian aborigines are not native to Australia? To what country are they native then? Caucasian are not native to Australia. I think you are confusing areas here.

@knailed ..I hate to do this ..but I think you mean 'berating each other' not 'belating'..which now means I've ruined all unity over the issue by pointing that out..god I'm a shit...sorry.
@ajarnfrankie OK and now listen to The Damned's "Life Goes On" and please stop all this Killing Joke/Nirvana fiction... They're both great bands in their own way.
I was a big fan of theirs in the early eighties, when they felt a bit relevant, if slightly fascistic. But this record was pathetic. The politics are 'sixth form' in that they follow the same, boring repressive hypothesis inwhich we are all downtrodden by the conspiracies of the military industrial complex, yadda, yadda. You're right though, it's probably waaay over my head. Hugs!
It's a storming record from a band that had been through many ups and downs by that point. Whether it's "relevant" is by the by. I don't buy into a lot of Coleman's lyrics, especially the more conspiracy minded ones, but they're still effective. I mean, if you're going to complain about the clothes bands wear it's safe to say the music probably isn't your main concern.
I had high hopes of this album, but it was just...terible. Jaz's cliched sixth-form politics really got the better of him. Can't believe he's wearing jeans with holes in the knees in 2003. Jesus...
they were actually thinking of letting different drummers be part of this but dave insisted that he play the whole album... and im fucking glad he did
I'm a drummer and I know that recording drums on top of something already finished otherwise is probably the hardest thing to do, because I have done it on a few songs. Playing drums on this album is the single greatest thing Dave Grohl has ever done.
Agreed
Proof that he belongs behind a drum kit and not fronting the most generic corporate rock group on the planet.
@@lockandreload, awesome drummer, unarguably one of the best to have walked the Earth, but the Foo Fighters have done a lot for kids getting into decent music. They introduce punk, grunge and everything that was great about the 70's 80's and 90's to many of their fans.
hahahahah.true
btw he played so well in Probot too
Followed Killing joke since about 1981. They are special.
Brilliant that these blokes got together. Always loved the Joke and still do. Dave is a sound chap.

I only heard this album about 2 weeks ago, and it's one of the best albums I've ever heard!!
Heres the best rock drummer of my generation, simple Nevermind, This!, Songs for the deaf, Them Crooked vultures.
Forget it!
"2003 The death and resurection show " love that album, maybe the best !
Love this album & Dave Grohl on the drums is perfection!
Jaz Coleman is one of my all time heroes, Dave Grohls amazing also but Jaz n co have an extra layer for me.
Said! Totally agree...jaz for President.
Yeah i just did some research on what Jaz did. For as long as I can remember we've had to sing the national anthem in Maori first then in english. But what I didn't know is that Jaz is the reason why we sing the first bit in Maori. He petitioned to make it official, which is cool.
Very cool fact! Thanks.
I'm one of those people too who appreciate Killing Joke. What an HONOUR!

4:40 “fix it” lol
My fav industrial album of all time
This album is bloody great. Millenium is another of my fav albums, but so hard to find it now
Perhaps because you are looking for an album that does not exist! Pandemonium however is easy to find.
Yes, Pandemonium, with the extra bonus disc
Pandemonium has never been released with an extra bonus disc....both the original and the remastered version have been a single CD. The remastered version did contain a few extra mixes from the CD Singles.
This album is shredding & so is Daves playing on it.
His drumming on this album is stellar!!! Same as the QOTSA album. Every hit is very deliberate. So good.
Thanks for posting this. This is really interesting. I never knew that they recorded the drums last. That fact makes the album even better. The album is one of the best albums i've ever heard.
Jazz Coleman makes me think very of Joaquin Phoenix when he was playing the Joker, in that seriously brilliant role!
2003 studio souvenir with Jaz Coleman and Dave Ghol 😊
Also I'm quite stoked that someone on youtube is willing to be intellectual about such issues as opposed to us belating each other. Well played.
I think people were looking for this a long time ( I did) so here it is ;)
A drumming battle between Ben Calvert (who was in Hosannas album) and Dave Grohl would be fucking epic
Mad Toto I used to have the same profile pic as you lol fuck yes
Thank you,a pleasure to talk with a kindred spirit.
I agree with you.
Asteroid, this album rips! Blood on your hands and implant are amazing! buy it!
Life goes on! Genius with the genius, and so what^?!! Rock n roll!!
Thank you very much, have been waiting for this indeed.
Thank you for the vid, nice to see.
Andy couldn't be any cooler ... he's the ice man ... Gang of Four attitude.
The now-sadly-deceased Andy Gill, a magnificent producer in his own right....
the 100th comment here. This is a hell of a video and this was a hell of an album.
behave thyself! lmao i love dave

Are they Kinda twisting his arm to play this. Is Dave trying a keep a straight face, seems under pressure.
I'm still looking for that interview Jaz did on the XXV vid : the let's prey together concert.
This rules
3:11 love it how the youth doesn’t even react to dave’s drum solos “yeah, right”
thats not youth. thats Andy Gill
Now I want to hear the tracks with the drum machine.
Agreed! That sums up pretty much their concept I guess.
"Wakey wakeyyyyy...!"
@MattJDesigns
Yeah...and everyone thought 'Teen Spirit' was the song....No, it's 'Come As You Are'....
Killing Joke's music is an epiphany for all music lovers, especially, rock music lovers. Dave Grohl played on this CD because Nirvana and Kurt Cobain was influenced by KJ's music. Bullshit 😖
very nice ! thanks !
37-40 seconds amazing
Dave Grohls best moments : 1.) Killing Joke. 2.) Songs for the deaf. 3.) Probot.

Sepultura has tribal style drumming, seen as they come from Brazil.

Big Paul was not back in the group yet.
Jaz is sooooooo much more of a 'free-thinker' than Dave.
Polar opposites - yet same hemisphere?

I think you could spot jaz in a bar without a priests collar!

God stuff - i wonder if they filmed the rest of the recording??? Would be aweosme. Producer Andy is Andy Gill ex of GANG OF FOUR.
He is now the "Gang of One" !
Are there other parts of this somewhere?
Dunno, found this : ruclips.net/video/AF48rtTB-8g/видео.html, but it's basically a shorter version

dave does all the talking..
Jaz is so cool.

@ajarnfrankie I showed my friend Killing Joke the other day, and he pointed out that they sounded the same.
GREAT FOOTAGE, would love to see more. Where is that from?
There used to be a video up on RUclips of this same recording session and Jaz is being very sarcastic and derogatory towards Dave Grohl. That video has been taken down. Hmmm, strange that...
@VOIDMK20 they entered Australia from the areas of what is Asia now, any basic research will tell you that!
@ajarnfrankie have u ever heard anything by Tool then XD?
As far as Maori are concerned, they get some pretty sweet deals, like claims to land and resources and the like. But I just had to question the 'struggle for acceptance' part, the African Americans and Australian Aborigines have had a struggle.
Jaz lived in Christchurch for a few years I think.
who is the cute chick on 4:00??
in oblivion Probably his wife, Jordyn Blum.
@@danielscissorhands .. That is NOT Jordyn Blum. Besides, Jordyn is nowhere near that hot.
@@avolite719 Oh. Maybe you're right.
Ok,so you're from NZ right?
How's the deal on the Maoris??
(I'm not attacking you)
what's this for, from 1981 is the real deal
truly tribal madness
I had a 100 things to comment about now I just have one thing in my MIND.
THAT WOMAN IS FREAKIN HOT,
Because he supports the Maori in their struggle for acceptance.
He did the National Anthem of New Zealand to be sung in Maori.
Paul Ferguson is a real drummer!!!
@beano1eye Excuse me?Australian aborigines are not native to Australia?
To what country are they native then?
Caucasian are not native to Australia.

Did he really play or was it just sampled beats?
God bless you Andy.
really late, but its called asteroid
I don't get ya there, it's probably one of there best albums

Da schliest sich der Kreis zwischen Past und Future!
WTF Coleman's wearing a New Zealand Maori T.shirt. Nice touch.
Yes,this is the acceptance-part :
Maori should sing the first part since it is their land, right???
Where’s Grohl? Oh there he is! I’m surprised him in my breakfast?
Tino Rangatiratanga.
The music industry is a strange place guys.
? Why is Jaz wearing a Maori flag on his t shirt?

Do you think the Maori got a fair share in New Zealand???
Who cares about some tits in the camera?
You should check some other channels for that.
This is about Killing Joke.
We Obviously know who stole the rift for come as you are
Struggle for acceptance?
So Paul had to sit this out? Bah
Paul left the band in 1987 and only joined after he met Jaz, Georgie & Youth on Paul Raven's funeral in 2008. That's when he rejoined.
Da sind wir beim Thema , Nirvana war echt Scheisse, hab diese Band live gesehen....
Wish Dave would have learned more from these guys and applied it to his bloated band.
Ontariosound he's one of the best drummers ever, but when it comes to songwriting... not so much lol
@@lockandreload sure, go listen to probot album and say that again.
The look on the band's collective face whenever Dave talks...priceless XD
