I think Will just wanted to make Mike feel better no matter what, and Will knows that something like that coming from El - especially in that context, when Mike and El parted ways after a fight of sorts - would mean much more to Mike than if it came from Will. Yeah, it's sad that Will don't think he means enough to Mike to just say all those things as coming from himself, but there's also the fact that Mike was distressed about El, and the only way he would really feel better in that moment would be being sure about El's feelings, so Will kinda sacrificed his own feelings there and ofered them as El's. Don't know if I'm making sense, lol, but it was my interpretation since the first time I saw that scene, and nothing changed my mind yet.
On this particular topic I think the answer is a lot simplier. Will wasn’t feeling ok expressing to Mike his feelings for him and by admitting that he created a painting just for him, he thought that Mike would somehow catch in the air that Will had feelings for him. It doesn’t really make sense but I guess when you’re in love your brain doesn’t make sense. It was a lot safer for him to just say that eleven told him what to paint, so that it makes both of them contributing to this painting.
I have a theory that Vecna/001 wasnt supposed to target Will I think that when Will saw Vecna in S1 E1, it seemed like Vecna was looking for someone else, but Vecna caught Wills attention, making him go after him. I think that Vecna was trying to look for eleven in the woods, since he was the only one who knew what Eleven was going to escape from the lab. Thats why vecna wasnt looking or targeting Will, he was looking for Eleven in the woods cause he knew she would be there so Vecna can force Eleven to be a host Since Vecna saw Will, he decided to abduct him instead of eleven We see in season 4, that 001 Always wanted to have a sidekick and asked Eleven if she wanted to.
@@Quoffyy You should check out the ST VR Gameplay. It shows Vecna being alerted to Will only when Eleven makes contact with him while he was hiding inside of Castle Byers...& Vecna literally says something along the lines of this boy being the key we've (Vecna & the Mindflayer) been waiting for, & he also says that Eleven is their gate. Vecna is then shown to enter into Will's mind, which ultimately leads up to him possessing Will & taunting him from as early as the S1 finale when Will has visions of the Upsidedown. Like even when Will coughs up the slug in the S1 finale, Vecna is shown to be in the bathroom mirror taunting Will! Will is definitely a big part of Vecna's masterplan to take revenge on Eleven and take over Hawkins & the rest of the senseless world!
@@Quoffyy If Will does actually have powers unknowingly, then perhaps that's what saved him from the Demogorgan & Veena in S1. Like the D&D game before Will's vanishing, Will does CAST PROTECTION before firing the gun in the shed.
Here’s what I think. Mike and Will have hugged before, last time before season 4 was when Will moved away. Mike gets awkward with the hug which makes Will no longer give him the painting at the airport. I don’t think Will intended to have a veiled confession then, he only wanted to give a gift to his friend he hasn’t seen in months. In California, Will brings the painting with him after he and Mike have repaired their friendship. At this point, he wants to give the painting to Mike again and is just waiting for the right moment. When Mike is worried in the van, Will tries to reassure him at first, but this doesn’t work. “We’re gonna make it, Mike. She’s going to be okay.” “Yea I know…I know she is. But..but what if.. after all this is over, she.. sh.. she doesn’t need me anymore?” “No..o..of course she’ll still need you. She’ll always need you, Mike.” ”I keep telling myself that, but I… I don’t believe it..” After this, Mike rants about his feelings and then apologizes. Even though Will has told him that El needs him, Mike still doesn’t believe it. So what else can Will do? Will shows Mike the painting and says El commissioned it. Because Mike needs to feel needed (it’s a major character trait of his). Will’s explanation of the painting, and that Mike is the heart, is supposed to help make Mike believe El needs him. Now, Mike has more than words of affirmation from Will. He has solid proof that Eleven needs him (though this proof is a lie). This is why Will lies about the painting. It turns out as a veiled love confession because Will is speaking from the heart and believes that what he feels for Mike, Eleven feels for Mike as well. When El is being choked by Vecna, Will reminding Mike of the painting, of how he’s the heart is to remind Mike that he is needed. That Eleven needs Mike right now. This gives Mike the courage to help Eleven survive. Will started out wanting to give a painting to Mike to show how much he values their friendship, but he sacrifices his feelings and his true intentions to help Mike. It was a spur of the moment decision and though this lie seems to have been effective so far, in season 5 it will have repercussions.
I mostly think the painting was to create some interpersonal conflict between Mike and Will and later down the line I think it will only fulfill the misunderstanding trope. If I think of it in terms of a theory, Will paints a huge ferocious creature similar to Nancy's description of what Vecna showed her in a vision (he's drawn Vecna's creatures before while possessed in s2 as well). This could mean Will could've been having visions in s4, or this could be a past memory too traumatic he had to forget, and/or his connection to Vecna was still there even in California. If you believe that last bit to be true then Vecna could be making Will lie in that moment. I don't think that last part is true or the lie about the painting having any more significance than it being a byler moment though.
I saw a video, when Eleven got her "Hopper house" or whatever that is destroyed, Will comes and says that they are going to fix it together. It could be a symbol that he would try to fix Eleven and Mike relationship. And that is why he wanted to give Eleven the credit, because assures Mike about Eleven feeling towards him. I guess it is pretty far-fetched, but why not😂
I think Eleven is a mirror of Will. (My theory is Eleven is Will). He house is destroyed. Wills house is destroyed (his dad is a jerk, calls him a f.g, leaves, never calls or hangs out.) Els dad, dies, she has to move.
It reminds me of the last episode in X-Men 97, there's a scene with Morph and Wolverine. iykyk Will is telling Mike something he wants him to hear, but he thinks it'll mean more coming "from El". Or that Mike will listen to it and let it rally his spirits more, when he's at a low point. Mike needs a boost, a little 'bardic inspiration' to use D&D terms. I also think it's things Will really wants to say and express but he doesn't feel like he can do it as himself so he gives El the credit.
I feel like Will always played part in the chaos that the upside down brought for these speculated reason: 1: just to bond with his friends(the proof is much in s3, the whole of it gave me this idea) because they're only together when they're dealing with the upside down. 2. I feel like for the reason of the complete theory you're establishing in the last video you made.
One last theory i have is Hoppers Fate Pills, Smoking, and Drinking Habit - Almost everytime we see him during season 1-3 hes usually taking pills, smoking or drinking which can cause death Sacrifice - Since Eleven is also most likely to die, he doesnt want to lose another loved one like Sara and his life so its a possibility be can sacrifice himself for eleven Vecna/Upside Down - He can be cursed by vecna because of his trama from Sara and his wife. - He can also be killed in the upside down like the vines, bats ect. PTSD - He can have a heart attack because of his extremely near deaths over the seasons like.. - Season 1 - the upside down - Season 2 - The Tunnels - Season 3 - Grigori and the Key thingy exploding - Season 4 - The russians, russian demogorgon, and the demo dogs. Since every season hes extremely close to being killed, it is more likey he dies seson 5
I think Will lied about eleven commissioning the painting because Mike believes in eleven and if he's confident in her belief of him it will give him the courage to do what he needs to in the battle.
I don't think that Will would show Mike the painting, if he hugged him, I think that he would wanted to that in the more secluded place than loud aiport. In my opinion he just wanted Mike to notice the painting, and show some interest in it, after that will would tell him, that he is going to show him that later and after they get home Will would have his monologue about painting
The only time wills paintings had any mystery behind them was because the mind flayer was in his head in s2 which they got rid of. Also he only felt the connection to the upside when he is in Hawkins. So in conclusion the panting is just one he made for Mike, the only reason he lied about it was to help Mike and give him a pep talk ( of course replacing his name with els in the pep talk.)
I think its plain and simple, Will was afraid to tell Mike that he did the painting because it would show his true feelings and he's scared of rejection. So he said it came from El, the girl he loves and has been agonizing over since they had their fight and she went back to superhero training. If in season 5 Mike finds out the truth, he's either going to have empathy for his best friend who's stuggling and will want to be there for him as a loving best friend, or if Mike is bisexual he may realize what a romantic gesture this was and reveal he too has feelings. It won't hurt their relationship either way.
GOT A NEW & FRESH THEORY FOR YOU!!! Was binging S4 again last night but with the English subtitles on & what caught my attention is that when Max escaped Vecna in the Dear Billy episode....the subtitles read "emotional bridge".....which I didn't actually pick up....that the happy memories actually built a BRIDGE for Max to the portal to get back to reality....a bridge she ran on....which could possibly be related to S5 E7 which is coincidentally titled THE BRIDGE!!! Could the S5 E7 title not be also referring to some bridge similar to the one Max got in Dear Billy? Maybe for Max again? Or Holly Wheeler this time around?

Really good detective work. If El did “commission” Will to make a painting for Mike’s visit, then she should have known what that was, at the airport, and spoken up! Been down a few rabbit holes since last post. Grammaticus books on RUclips put out a video on Roger Zelazny’s “Jack of Shadows”. It reminded me of ST halfway through. Also watched an old X-files about the origins of the “Lone Gunmen”. It was weird how Frohike, Langley and Byers bonded over a “strange” girl. A woman called Susan Modeski who was being hunted by government agents trying to prevent her from revealing a secret plot against the people. It weirdly mirrored the plot of ST. So why did Will lie? More importantly why did he almost cry. Remember, his brother Jonathan was watching him, with concern, through the rearview mirror. It seems Will was keeping things to himself again. Like the first time Jonathan talked to Will about going to a baseball game with their dad. Will doesn’t push people into doing what he wants to do. He goes along with others, lets others lead. He supports others. The only ones who support him are Joyce and Jonathan and his friends, when they have time. So it seems. Remember who asked who to be friends? It was Will who took the initiative and asked Mike if he wanted to be friends. Will gives the impression of being a pushover, a follower. Is he the heart ❤️? Did he just tell Mike that he was the heart so Mike would stop blaming himself? Was he supporting Mike at his own expense. I mean fantasy tropes tend to give its readers encouragement. If you do art: write, paint, you may not be the subject, but it is your work. Intimately yours.
That is a PHENOMENAL THOUGHT!!! That makes A LOT of sense about the Will/Mike friendship story. If Will was lying about the heart symbol, and it ultimately was him, that makes things very interesting to this lie. Always love your thoughts my friend!!!
@ I remember Mike telling Will a story in season 2, I think it was in the shack, and it was about the “best day”. Because Mike was trying to reach Will through the mindflayer’s possession. I haven’t seen it in a few months, but I think I’m right. Someone let me know if I’m really wrong.
@@kallianpublico7517 I think Mike said along the words of "I asked if you wanted to be my friend. And you said yes. You said yes. It was the best thing I've ever done." Something like that. I re-watched ST a couple days ago. Idk if that's exactly what he said tho.
@@serena_jackson997 Just rewatched it. You are correct, I remembered it wrong. 1st day of kindergarten, Mike saw Will on the swings, by himself, and went up and asked Will if he wanted to be friends. Will said yes. I guess it was the way Mike made Will feel that made me think it was Will who was the one “initiating” things. Mike initiated contact, Will initiated friendship by accepting, by answering yes. Thanks for the correction. Sorry for the confusion.
Hey I saw a post on Instagram threads and it was a photo of will byers holding a gun the title was something Like the final scene of season 5 it looked real I searched it up again and couldn't find it I think vecna crawls into will and makes him kill one of the main characters probably eleven the photo straight up gave me chills I am 100% sure it was real it was a camera screen and you could see the upside down behind him
I also have a thory that Billy will return is stranger things 5 because in his car, we can see the first 3 numbers in the liscense plate which is 2, 3 and 5
Eleven & Will only really connected in S4 when she was adopted by Joyce & moved with the Byers to California, but they pretty much avoid one other throughout the first couple of seasons, & then there's an emphasis on how Will felt left out in S3 whenever he wanted to play D&D but Mike was becoming more & more distant & more focused on trying to mend his relationship with El. The painting is important because it EXCLUDES ELEVEN....& Vecna will probably prey on Will's jealousy of Eleven to bring him to dark side in S5, to the point where he actually betrays her. That way Will still becomes a "Judas" because will betray the "Jesus" figure Eleven....but not necessarily become an outright villain....leaving room for redemption. Will's paintings & drawings always seem to manifest itself! Whether it's due to foresight or not I'm not sure....but I bet we'll see that multi-headed dragon come S5!!! When Billy gets taken over in S3 he asks "What do you want?" & "How? I don't understand"....&the response is "everything you see"....implying that Will's visions can come into existence....which is why draws them....or that the Upsidedown is built & altered through the vision of certain characters the Mindflayer possesses!
@@DLA_AlternativePodcast must point out that the Mindflayer was actually referring to Billy having to build the monster that took Eleven's powers when he actually said that!
@@DLA_AlternativePodcast The specificity of Nancy's cuecards always contradict any notion that Will himself created the Upsidedown as he knew it on November 6, 1983! Like how on earth would Will know about Nancy's cuecards or her shoes in the box or that specific teddy bear in her room? Eleven's opening S4 monologue implied that there's a link between one's emotions & how they experience time, & so Vecna himself has the ability to control time itself....which is why the Upsidedown is frozen in time....as part of his plan to "reshape the world however we see fit"!!!! Think of the Upsidedown as a parallel & alternative timeline, as found in Back to the Future 2 when Biff goes back in time to give his younger self the almanac. It's the same place but only a darker version of it because the Evil has engulfed it....lending itself to The Vale of Shawdows in D&D where it's the same, but also different! There's far too many references to time throughout the entirety of ST for timetravel not to come into play in S5! If the Duffers are nostalgic about the 1980s then Back to the Future has got to be their biggest inspiration....which is why I think they've saved the best for their final season! Have a look at the Superbowl ST Advertisment which paired Erica & Will Farrell who seemed to have been portrayed as Doc Brown from BTTF! Like found on Mrs. Kelly's chain & her key shaped clock inside of her home....TIME is the KEY!!! Timetravel has actually already been subtly included in the show without anyone realizing it. For instance, Eleven's monologue talk about how emotions can make time "speed up or slow down"....& in the S4 finale we actually see her slowing time down free herself from the vines & stop Vecna from fully engulfing Max....& in turn the reason why Nancy, Robin & Steve were able to survive....& why Eddie's sacrifice "to buy more time" is even more important than we think....oh the layers upon layers of this show...the Duffer Brothers are geniuses!!!
I think Stranger Things is Wills campaign (in his mind). We know some DnD campaigns can go on for a long time. Eleven is Wills alter ego. When he disappears, she appears. He is the wizard: she is wizard like. My theory is that because Will was always so skittish, he didn't see a Demogorgon, it was a bear, or even just a random person. He hit his head when he wiped out on his bike. The rest is a fever dream.
With that said, I think there can be a huge difference between loving your friend and having romantic feelings for them. Mike has known that Will is different. He knows Will doesn't like girls. At the Snowball, Mike practically has to force Will to dance with the girl who asked him. Later, when he preps a campaign, Mike and Lucas are more focused on girls than gaming. When they are in Mike's carport, he says, "It's not my fault you don't like girls". Now of course that can be taken as 'you are not ready for the girlfriend world and want to stay little.' Or what it is: he doesn't like girls. Wills world is chaotic: his mom has major anxiety, his dads absent and calls him a fa..ot, he has to deal with bullies. His friend circle and DnD are his safe places. Places of comfort, and the new girlfriends are ruining the vibe. I don't think Will is in love with Mike. I think he loves him as a best friend, but really needs the extra support because he is gay and is having a hard time expressing the need for that validation.
Maybe Will isn't lying, mayyyyybe just mayyyybe it was eleven subconscious and he as will the wise fighting will the dragonmaster in q Gandalf type of lord of the rings feel scene .. but I feel that will having been in the upside down may have obtained some special gift. Like mind reading
There's definitely more to Will's storyline from his time in the Upsidedown. Perhaps like a young Henry Creel,Will had been chipped by Hawkins Lab to suppress his powers....& the deal Hopper made with HNL in the S1 finale has something to do with that revelation.
@@One-z6y I actually think that Will is somehow Henry! Just as is in the series Dark, I reckon there's a character in ST who unknowingly belongs to a different timeline & is a time-traveller.
what if he though mike wouldn't understand how he felt about him? My guess is that he panicked and thought he would turn the others against him for coming out, or making a pass at him
Will quite simply doesn't know how to express his feelings for Mike & come out of the closet in the '80s...& so he gets it out of his system through his painting & just uses Eleven's name as an excuse to get it out there. Expecting a S5 scene between Mike & Will where they fight about it with Mike rejecting Will leaving him susceptible to Vecna/The Mindflayer just as it happened in S3 when Will tore down Castle Byers after the argument between the pair.
Good theory. But I don't think Will has romantic feelings for Mike. I think he desires a deeper friendship with more support of him being gay. Back in the 80s it was crazy hard to be gay. But I think you might be on point, that they have a fight about something and that pain is in his brain...making him susceptible to Venca.
@@One-z6y I can't tell if you're serious. How much clearer can it be? Cuz of people like you the actor who plays Will himself had to confirm that Will was indeed gay and in love with Mike as if it wasn't obvious already.

Wait wait. I thought it was Mike who asked Will if they wanted to be friends??
@ I remember Mike telling Will a story in season 2, I think it was in the shack, and it was about the “best day”. Because Mike was trying to reach Will through the mindflayer’s possession. I haven’t seen it in a few months, but I think I’m right. Someone let me know if I’m really wrong.

I think Mike said along the words of "I asked if you wanted to be my friend.
Hey I saw a post on Instagram threads and it was a photo of will byers holding a gun the title was something Like the final scene of season 5 it looked real I searched it up again and couldn't find it I think vecna crawls into will and makes him kill one of the main characters probably eleven the photo straight up gave me chills I am 100% sure it was real it was a camera screen and you could see the upside down behind him
I also have a thory that Billy will return is stranger things 5 because in his car, we can see the first 3 numbers in the liscense plate which is 2, 3 and 5
I've seen that before too! Which made me go on a massive hunt and I am currently working on a theory going over a BUNCH of license plates!
Also i have another theory
During the seasons, people go missing..
Will B
Billy H
Holly w
This makes a pattern
WBBHHW?
Hii are you more into Mileven or Byler?
No preference whatever happens happens! Love is love! Much love to you as well and thank you for the support no doubt!!!
OHHH great point about Billy in S3! No doubt I thin I have an idea for a video based off that now! Shout out is in order Wazzu!!!!
I think El is Will. They mirror each other in many ways.
@One-z6y see I'm on this one too. Take the name.....
Wi.11 >>> 11
