I always loved it, but then again i have been plugging headphones into my mega drive since i got one (when your playing it on a small tv in the corner while your parents watch tv having the tv volume down is a must)
I wonder why the song was programmed in such a way, almost as if that was supposed to be a melodic channel instead of noise. Cause whoever redid the music for the sonic 1 and 2 mobile ports left out some key details that change the songs completely
Really? I played it for the first time last year on apple TV and got through to labyrinth on my first try without any issues. Except for the act 3 boss of sorts, took me about 30 mins to beat, but other than that, the the was fairly easy, but fun nonetheless.
Channel 0 really needed Channel 2 to add the effect needed to reflect the zone's atmosphere. And PSG3 was a welcome addition to the drum combo of Channel 1 and DAC.
The different pitches of noise on the PSG 3 really make the kick drum sound like it's being filtered in places, and gives it a nice crunchy texture that the sample alone is lacking!
I never would have realized that the ending bit used square waves the first three times, and normal channels the fourth time before this deconstruction. I sincerely thank you for making these.
When I played this level as a kid psg 0 and psg 1 were never active for some reason and I honestly feel like without those 2 channels the song sounds better
The downward movement of PSG1&2 has something very close to it in True Area 53's theme in sonic advance 2, it's only now that I'm listening to the decomposed version that I realize it. Smashing.
If I was a dishonest and popular musician who wanted 35-45 year old listeners, I would watch these videos all day long and copy parts of these songs in to my own. There are parts where the song is basically unrecognizable but still a great beat and only after recompiling them do you hear where these really make the songs slam! Adding them to a new song would be almost like creating subliminal messages that draw people in to listening without them knowing why they like it so much lol! Instant Mind Control!
Exactly and it wouldn’t be plagiarizing either, really all you’d have to do is change the key signature and avoid a carbon copy of the chorus melody and you’re fine, you could always invert the chords of the melody to and make it your own. I’m pretty sure at some point every rock artists has pulled something from someone else….. Led Zeppelin is a prime example, and Ritchie Blackmore for Smoke on the Water pulled influence from Beethoven. I would say what separates each artist out there is their creative abilities, but music knowledge is power, and also infinite.
@@bassplayer807Agreed! Have you ever heard the song "Tonight Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae? They totally ripped off the SEGA Genesis game, Greendog (Grenada). In that case they didn't even try to hide it. Then there is the NES Zelda's dungeon theme that was originally a Deep Purple song 🤓

1:49wow that bass
Genesis bass is a great thing
I really enjoy how the percussion of PSG 3 complements the baseline of Channel 1, it ties the whole song together
Yeah, I never realized how you can actually make a real tune out of just drums.
this is why as a standard in most pop / rock / blues music, the drums always follow the bass, or vice versa, typically playing the same rhythms.
