      @biggallcaps 8 лет назад +9

      Fredric Millis is the Trumpet player 2nd from the right. Ronald Romm is the other Trumpet player, Charles Dallenbach is Tuba, Eugene Watts is Trombone but in this he's playing Baritone, and the French Horn player's name I forgot...

    • @dalegbaby26
      @dalegbaby26 8 лет назад +9

      that's a euphonium. not a baritone

    • @sealemonz4120
      @sealemonz4120 8 лет назад +2

      Dalian Bryan actually i believe it is a baritone, and BIG G is right, the euphonium has an extra valve so it has four valves however the instrument Eugene guy was holding has three valves so it is a baritone. And btw I'm French Horn/Mellophone. Even I know this and I am not a tuba/baritone

    • @dalegbaby26
      @dalegbaby26 8 лет назад +22

      The Schoen you don't know. I'm an actual euphonium player. The difference between a euphonium and a baritone is not boiled down to number of valves. There baritones with 4 valves and euphoniums with 3 (although they are not as common).
      A euphonium is simply more conical than a baritone which is, although not completely cylindrical, a lot more cylindrical than a euphonium.
      It is also worth noting that this euphonium has 4 valves with 3+1 system. The 4 valve is engaged by the left index finger. Literally every professional and college level player uses this system.
      Long story short: this is a euphonium.

    Perhaps, the tuba player thinks the bass line is boring and repetitive, but then realizes after taking himself out of the music that even the simplest parts can still be musical. It took a beginner to remind him of this idea.

    What a fantastic video! My father was an instrumental music teacher for 40 years and a fine trumpet player. He was an amazing positive influence, which led me to take up trumpet and cornet at 10 and brought me many years of wonderful playing experiences throughout primary school and college. One of my favorite playing experiences was senior year of high school, getting to play this very arrangement in Wind Ensemble and duetting that beautiful melody/countermelody of the 1st Trumpet and 1st Cornet parts with my friend Drew. Dad and practiced religiously together and I know Drew put equal time in because it was just magic when we were finally onstage performing it. One of my favorite audience memories was going to see the Canadian Brass when they played the NJMEA Convention at the Sheraton in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and they brought the same warmth, good humor, and skill to that show that they present in this video.
    A week from today, New Year's Day 2023, will mark one since Dad passed. Having dedicated more than half his life to music education, he inspired dozens of his students to pursue careers in musical academia, professional music careers, and a lifelong love of music in all. For some of his students, band class provided a refuge and safe haven from problems at home, problems with other kids, that little piece of happiness that could sustain them. For others, it gave them the opportunity to pursue a creative outlet and do something fun when they otherwise might've gotten involved with an ill sort and started their lives on the wrong side of the law. One such student is now an honorable member of the venerable New Jersey State Police, perhaps the most respected state law enforcement agency in the nation, and credited my father and band class as keeping himself and his siblings out of trouble as youths. Even though the pain of losing Dad is difficult to endure at times, and I'm writing this as hot tears burn down my face, they are a mix of grief for his passing, longing and sadness for wont of him being here, and the fiercest of pride for the thousands of lives he brought the joy of music to over his four decades of teaching. There are no words for how much good he brought to so many young young lives, and he will always be my hero.
    I love you, Dad, Merry Christmas, and thank you for being the most amazing father and teacher.
    John P. Swoboda, BA/MA Music Education, Musical Conducting, 1945-2022

      +poldhana tumsatan As a tuba player, it is not that hard to rock back and forth. With the marching variant, it is even easier to move with it. When I am playing my sousaphone, I some times in my drill have to jump while playing. With the size, the mouth can move in the mouthpeice. Granted, it will sound worse with movement, but with his most likely years of experience, it is nothing for him.

    • @richmanifesto1090
      @richmanifesto1090 8 лет назад +34

      +DeeeFoo as someone with experience on both trombone and saxophone it definitely has the potential to get in the way, but its not hard to get used to playing around it. as with any activity that is done where facial hair can get in the way you learn to adapt. of course that said i prefer to keep a closer shave when i play

    • @mikeggg5671
      @mikeggg5671 8 лет назад +25

      +DeeeFoo I am a trombonist, and I have had at various times a moustache. As Rich said, it can, but it has never for me. I simply put the mouthpiece to my lips in asliding up motion, so the moustache rests on the mouthpiece, instead of getting between my lips and the instrument.
      Ive said it a million times - best rendition of the Canon...and best music video ever.

      it depends on the mouthpiece for example it will be annoying for a tuba player because it mouthpiece, but in the extremely small mouthpiece of the french horn it wont affect too much, no effect in woodwinds and sax i think.

    This is beautiful, but why do the tuba players keep switching out?

    • @IamUncledeuce
      @IamUncledeuce 10 лет назад +5

      Huh? The Tuba player is Chuck Daellenbach he's a founding member (1970). The other players do, in fact rotate rather routinely but I believe the 2013 lineup has been fairly static for a few years. But Chuck Daellenbach as been there from the beginning.
      You must be referring to the trombonist or in this case the Euphonium player. And since the T-bone and Euphonium have the same range it's probably a multi-instrumentalist for this iteration of Canadian Brass.

    • @williamhebert1736
      @williamhebert1736 10 лет назад +9

      I think the 2 tubas switching was a just a little comedy. The guy who was playing in the beginning was being nice and allowing for a poor man to play the tuba. Then realized he is really good and took the tuba back cause he doesn't wanna lose his job. lol. It's was meant to be something funny.

    • @peterkiss9075
      @peterkiss9075 10 лет назад +16

      Jason Hong To me it seemed like he was bored and then he sees the gardener as an opportunity to take a break, but then realises that he actually enjoyed playing the tuba.
