    Please do another data series on the power grip. Yesterday I had the chance to ask Isaac, Gannon, and Gavin a power grip question and they all said they don't know. They all use grip #1 below.
    What effect does it have on nose angle, spin, speed, and release angle when comparing these two power grips:
    1. Traditional: aligned from webbing between index and middle finger and down through bottom-middle valley of the palm
    2. The only difference from #1 is the bottom of the palm alignment, put the ball of the palm (the boney part at the bottom pinky side of the palm) just barely on top of the rim or on the rims edge
    It seems #2 seems to it easier to reach the index finger around wider rims, adds anhyzer, and gives more wrist flexibility to pour the coffee more. The added anhyzer, if true, can still be useful for hyzer shots if you like to lean forward more in your stance without adding too much hyzer.

    However, multiple times in recent tournaments when there's a good angle to see, I've seen him doing #2. I don't know if he always does it or only on certain shots. Here's a view at 6m59s ruclips.net/video/YwVgtp4UYwE/видео.html
    Another power grip comparison that would be awesome is what effect does locking the last digit's knuckles have vs them being rounded? It should improve grip strength as it does in rock climbing (full crimp, half crimp, open crimp), but increase finger injury risk due to being able to hold harder and more pressure on the locked knuckles.

      As with the backhand I do not believe there is a single grip that works for everyone. You have to find a grip that is comfortable for you.
      Personally I swap between a traditional 2 finger grip and a power grip depending on the disc.
      I have seen both grips as well as a 1 finger and a 3 finger as well as a 3 finger fan grip all used with success by various players.

      With grip #1 if I try to instead align the disc at webbing between middle and ring finger, my index finger cannot reach around the rim enough to grip, but if I use grip #2 but with the middle and ring finger webbing, my index finger can now reach. This seems like it helps with nose down but I don’t know for sure.

    Not getting it. When you demoed the pop without a disc in your hand, your palm was perpendicular to the angle of release. When you held a disc, your palm was not perpendicular to the angle of release. Also, I've seen pro players stress the point that your hand needs to end up palm up at the end of the throwing motion. Not what you are suggesting. Confusing.

      So few pros finish with the palm up. It’s grip and release angle dependent so to say finish with the palm up is an over generalization to the point that people use the wrong range of motion. I displayed the correct range of motion without a disc and did not change it with the disc in my hand. Probably best not to look at the disc orientation but rather how the hand pops.

    I have no forehand, I avoid it at all costs. This video provided visual imagery that blew my mind. Rolling across the table, the idea of working down the clock and the idea that every persons strongest release point is different so I need to lean more has completely changed my though process around forehands. Incredibly helpful. Thanks!

    Sir, thank you for sharing. Recently retired, and a beginner at disc golf. Currently have the F7, Wraith, and Insanity discs. I find I throw best with the F7. My accuracy really sucks, though I can throw with the F7 150-200 feet. Just for fun, the BUZZ, as a roller can get me out to 350-400 feet. Always watching you. Thank you for sharing your expertise.thumbs up.

    Brilliant! I've got a 400ft FH. It's vital to realize and feel that the wrist snap does not come from your forearm muscles. They are completely relaxed. Your wrist is a whip, and you use your body (hips, torso, and arm) to "whip" your wrist. When you feel this, everything will fall into place. But your videos on FH are by far the best I've ever seen on the FH.

    I started as a forehand dominant player, and I’ve felt like I’ve been lacking a little bit in consistency lately. This is a huge help to remember the little things. Super hyped to practice these drills and see how my consistency increases!!

    You have saved my arm, I thought I was starting to get my forehand shot but my arm was in pain after every round or practice session. I tried this with the other videos and I am finally understanding what everyone is saying when forehands are in the wrist. Thanks for the content!

    For me forehands are super easy to get 375 with like 80ish% power. Any more power and I don’t see much difference in distance. I just can’t throw them constantly without hurting myself

    Great series! My main issue seems to be I don’t have much wrist flex in my dominant throwing arm (one I throw ball with).
    I throw backhand with my opposite hand too. Weird I know.
    Even weirder: I can throw a forehand disc just as far with my left hand and right (more wrist flex), even tho I can’t throw a ball with that arm AT ALL.
    I’d like to figure this out so the arm I’ve been throwing a ball with for my whole life is the one I forehand a disc with. Seems that wrist flex is a major issue tho. (And turning that damn wrist up).
    Will continue to field work. Open to suggestions tho!

    Hey I have a self learned training thing I did for my forehands and it helped with that clean release without the soupnation. I trained my follow through to point the 2 fingers to the opposite of the clock face If your aiming for 3 you point at 9 ect. It made my forehand very very accurate and consistant I never roll my wrist now(I did it for like 2 months straight admittedly) I found I looked stupid doing this but my shot was so good it did not matter, an with most good training drills the stupider is looks the better it is. Hope this helps I love all of your videos thanks for being such an awesome coach.

    Thanks for the video. On your side view throws, I can see the back of your hand, and the heel of your hand is more toward the target than your thumb. This means to me that the motion of your wrist is somewhere between a slap and a karate chop. Can you please address this during your playlist?

    I started conceptualizing my swing plane as if it were on a clock face last summer and my final swing thought is still something like “9 to 3” or “3 to 9” if I’m throwing a BH or FH flat shot. Happy to see Coach Josh using this visualization in an OT video. It’s both validating and will likely make it easier to persuade my students to try out the clock drill. It helps SO much with angle integrity.

      Follow through when you throw, and use the full range of your wrist, like Overthrow is showing, to take some of the stress off your shoulder. Find a few shoulder exercises on RUclips for rotator cuff muscles and other shoulder muscles to help prevent injuries. Hope that helps.

    Just watched Brodie Smith’s stream about the tech disc, and got curious about the spin on his forehand. From experience I know an understable disc will turn over more on FH than on BH. Is that due to the spin?🤔

    Talking about feeling cues, I spent weeks throwing putters with just my index finger on the rim in order to get that feeling of pop with my wrist and finger pad, I then added my middle finger stacked and was finally able to throw forehand decent.

    Wow, thank you so much for this series. I’ve been struggling on why my forehands have been going up when trying for distance. So learning I’m twisting my wrist is so glad to know. I want to grow my forehand to be just as good as my back hand has turned out in the last year. Started disc golfing a year ago in August, and was primarily a forehand player at the start. Now a stronger back hand, but would love to have a stronger forehand too. Thanks again for this series, looking forward to learning a lot more. Would love to get over 300 ft on any hand.

    Nice video! I'll have to see if I'm doing this or not. I'm predominantly a forehand player, but I'm not super consistent. As for the 'snap'...also check out Paul Ulibarri...when he gets ready to do a forehand he practices the motion and it looks like a slap the way he does a practice move.

      The only person I know of with an audible snap is Gossage. Plenty of silent 400’ forehands out there.

      @OverthrowDiscGolf I also have a very loud snap. Card mates have thought I broke my wrist. I then show them my red fingers. I don't use that grip at all and it achieves no snap. I'd like to challenge arron to a buzz os champion battle

    I am going to have to join the chorus on you changing your wrist motion from a slap without the disc to a mix of slap and chop when you have a disc in your hand. Perhaps you can set us all straight in your next video? 🙂

      @@OverthrowDiscGolf I did. And I cannot get the grip to set up the disc at such an angle that the pure slap motion creates the desired disc release. It seems to demand a mix of slap and chop. That is why I returned to your video and believe that I see you do the same when holding a disc. 🙂

    Awesome! I’ve actually been working on this for the last week or so. Good timing! But I find that I often throw straight into the turf- about 40-50 feet away. Any idea what the issue might be there? Former infielder, so sidearm and 3/4 release feels pretty natural

      That’s probably lack of hinge at the hip / being too upright if i had to guess. But that’s just a guess

      I played baseball, handball and tennis from a young age, so a forehand should have been a piece of cake, not so. Here's why and what's different about a disc forehand. With an overhand throw in baseball or handball, you're palm, index and middle finger are forward facing exactly as Josh explains. In a forehand disc golf throw, your hand and arm should be in position like you are shaking hands whether you are throwing an overhand or a sidearm which is a achieved by adjusting the angle of your shoulders and torso as Josh explains. This motion is also the most natural for your wrist and is how to prevent injury.

    Thank you for clarification about the wrist. Too often I see people teach keeping the palm up using a karate chop rather than a slapping motion.

      It all depends on your throwing style. Several top players keep their palm facing the sky well into the follow through. Ricky, Kyle, Holyn for example. Others do not, Koling, Scoggins for example. This series will be interesting.

      @deepsender I agree there are a lot of styles and subtle variations. If someone is new to forhands and learning grip I show them grips, wrist, and elbow movements. You have to try a few variations to find what is natural for you.

    I suffer from lack of range of motion in my wrist. Are there any exercises you could recommend, to try and strengthen what little motion I have? I’m really excited about this series!

      Active-isolation stretching improves range of motion. Strenthening soesn't improve range of motion but weight resistance training improes strenth.

    My forehand is trash so thank you for posting this series. I hope you get into data with the tech disc. There's around a 500rpm difference between my backhand and forehand and I have no idea if that's to be expected or not...

      About 700rpm on forehand seems decent. Definitely much lower than on BH

      That makes me feel a little better, my average RPM is right at 700. I'd love to know what kind of RPM Ricky has to throw a Harp on a rope 300'. Thanks for the info and for the drills. I've got lots of practice to do.
