Child Lock - how to lock or unlock Tempur Ergo - Tempur Ergo Extend Adjustable bases

    How to lock and unlock the Tempur Ergo or Ergo Extend adjustable bases (2018 to late 2020 versions). To unlock: Push and hold down "Foot up" arrow and "Food down" arrow for 10 seconds, wait for it to blink twice.
    New child lock feature - these instructions are for Tempur-Pedic adjustable bases purchased after May 2018. The remote may accidentally lock if you (a) sit on the remote or (b) if your finger pushes too close to the middle section when you are raising the head. Pro Tip: You want to try to put your fingers right over the "arrows" that are printed on the remote. This helps you avoid accidentally locking the remote.
    These instructions also work for the Sealy Ease base (although its a different remote). Same process (push and hold down "Foot up" arrow and "Food down" arrow for 10 seconds, wait for it to blink twice)
    If your remote isn't working, 1. Check to make sure the base is still plugged in, and 2) check to make sure you aren't on "child lock". I suggest you try to "LOCK & UNLOCK" before you try re-pairing or reprogramming a remote control. This is an EASY FIX to try to unlock. You will not be able to reprogram your remote if the base is on child lock (you won't get the flashing blue light). There are easy instructions on how to reprogram remote. 1) remove the cover from the remote control (you need access to it) 2) under the bed, there is a battery backup box. You will push the "learn" button TWICE (small black button), and the little light bulb will light up. Then push the white button on the back of the remote, it will start flashing blue. Keep holding it down until it stops flashing. HOPE THIS HELPS!

    one more option which i learned today..
    1. first remote light has to on when we click any button.
    2. press head down and foot down together for 6 seconds and light will blink for once..
    3. then head up and foot up for 6 seconds light will blink for 2 times.
    after that it starts working..

      Hi Tippu, thanks for sharing. Your instructions are for the “new” version of the remote. If your remote has a white sticker on the back, it is a new remote and the new instructions apply. If the remote has a black sticker, you should use the video above. I did post a new video for the 2021 Remotes : )

    OMG ...I thought my remote was broken

    thank you so much. My mother is getting surgery tomorrow and needed her bed to be able to move, it hadn't been working for weeks. The manual told me the incorrect way of deactivating the child lock, then I stumbled across this video and it worked!

    Nope - the newer ones are: Lock: Push and hold the Head Up & Foot Up buttons for 6 seconds | Unlock: Push and hold the Head Down and Foot Down Buttons for 3 seconds, then push the Head Up and Foot Up buttons for 3 seconds and wait until the lights on the remote go out.

      There are two version of the remote, and the “child lock / unlock” instruction are different (old remote vs. new remote).
      The instructions will work on the old version of the remote for EASE, Tempur Ergo and Tempur Ergo Extend.
      You can use these instructions if the back of your remote has a black sticker and you purchased before Nov 2020 (roughly); those bases had the older version of the remote.
      On the newer version, the sticker on the back of the remote is a “white sticker with orange trim”. The video instructions for the NEWER version (purchased after Nov 2020 approximately) is a different video.     I held down for 2 full minutes and nothing. Took batteries out put new ones in. Tried to unlock again. Nothing. Just blinks if i try to use remote. My CHILD got it stuck

    My zero gravity is not working and just makes the bed flat. Do you have any answer on how to fix this?

      Push and hold 2 buttons (flat and zero G) for about 10-15 seconds. The remote should blink twice. This will reset the “preset positions” to the original factory settings.
      TV, Zero G, Anti-Snore and the star button (“your favorite”) are all reprogrammable, They come programmed with a factory installed position, but you can re-program a new position. For example, if you push the TV position but want your legs a little higher, you can raise your legs and then “by “push and hold” the TV button for about 10-15 seconds (the remote light will blink twice). This will reprogram your new position as the TV favorite.

      I would try new batteries and try to reprogram the remote to work with your base. It is possible that it is no longer “paired” to your base or it may have a short. You can call tempur warranty at (800) 821-6621 when you are home with the base. They can walk you thru troubleshooting or get a new remote out to you. The remote should be covered under warranty for the first 3 years.

    The child lock isn’t the problem… everything except head down works… any idea how to resolve

      I would double check that the cable from the head motor is properly connected to the control box. Just try to view and follow the cable to the next connection point to make sure it isn’t loose, or that its not disconnected. If only the head motor is not responding, it may have a defect. You should call warranty 800-821-6621. First 3 years are covered full parts and labor, and years 4 and 5, they cover parts.

      I would try to Lock it (push head up and head down for 15 seconds, wait for it to blink twice) and then Unlock it (push Foot Up & Foot Down for 15 sec, wait for it to blink twice). If that doesn't work, I would try to reprogram the remote to work with the base. I can give you instructions, its easy. Do you know which base you have (Ergo, Extend or Ease base)?
      Does the back of your remote have a black sticker or a white & orange sticker? They changed the Lock/Unlock instructions for the remotes with white & orange stickers (in Nov/Dec 2020).

      @@beverlywilson8089 The newer version of the remote has a “white” sticker with orange trim (on the back of the remote control). This version has a different combination of buttons to “Lock” or “unlock”. They changed it to reduce the “accidental lock”.
      TO UNLOCK: Press and hold “HEAD DOWN” and “FOOT DOWN” for 3 seconds. Then, Press and hold “HEAD UP and FOOT UP” buttons together for 3 seconds. The remote and or backlight will flash. When it light goes away, the remote should be unlocked.
      If it doesn’t unlock, I recommend that you try to LOCK IT.....and then UNLOCK IT....and make sure your base is plugged in to a working outlet, and getting power.
      To Lock: Press and hold “Head UP and Foot Up” buttons (at the same time) for 3 seconds. The remote LED or backlight will flash. When the light goes away, the remote will be Locked.

    What about setting a new star position?

      You can record a new favorite by pushing and holding the STAR button for about 10-15 seconds. You will see the backlight blink twice (about 6 seconds in, and then about 10 seconds in)...once you see it blink twice, it will be programmed. BONUS - you can also re-record new TV, Zero G and Anti Snore by following the same process. If you change your mind, you can push (ZERO G and FLAT together) for 10 seconds to restore the original factory settings (and wait for it to blink twice).

    This video is wrong, that is not how you disable or enable the remote. To unlock hold down the HEAD DOWN and LEG DOWN buttons for 5 sec then press the HEAD UP and LEG UP button to reset and unlock.
    I tried to follow the steps in this video and nothing worked, after reading the user's manual I found the answer.

      The “description” notes in this video explain the different “LOCK/UNLOCK” instructions for the different versions of the remote.
      The “remote control” looks the same, but the “combination of buttons” have changed. It is always best to view your owners manual if you have it. First generation was a black sticker on the back of the remote (Around May 2018 to Nov 2020). 2nd Generation: was a white sticker with orange trim (around Nov 2020 - May 2022). 3rd Generation remote: There are new instructions for bases that came out around May 2022, I’ll post a new video soon. They got it right with the newest version, removing the batteries for about 10 seconds will “unlock” the remote.

    It is the absolute stupidest feature on the bed. I mean what happens if you can’t get the remote to unlock. Cause not even your steps work.

      Sorry to hear you’re having trouble. You may have a different version of the remote. There are a few different versions of the remote. They look the same, but the child lock/unlock buttons are different. I have another video which has instructions for a more recent version of the space. Maybe that will help.

      If you flip the remote over, and it has a white sticker with orange trim, the unlock instructions are listed on the left side of that sticker.
      I would also double check that the power cord is plugged in, and the power box is has a green light (getting power). You may have a bad remote, or it might need to be re-programmed.
