    While not as common source of no heat, it is still very worthy to change it out with a new one as all that rust and sediment can cause functional issues. Also you will now have access to that area for flushing too. Procedure is for 3.0l 12v Vulcan engines.

    .Hi the thermostat in my 99 Ford Taurus was being replaced but a couple months prior the cooling system was flushed and a new reservoir was installed. Again a couple months later I was told I needed a new thermostat so I agree to it they charged me 1.55 hrs. labor to remove and install. ($188 + $25 in parts) under the above mentioned circumstances the cooling system already being clean and flushed isn't 1.55 hours for an EXPERIENCED MECHANIC SEEM EXCESSIVE?! I mentioned it and was told that I had a dual overhead cam system. I can see the thermostat housing when I lift the hood and look at the engine, looks totally accessible to me!? Thank you so much for your opinion and your great videos! LH

    So I have a 1998 Ford Taurus and I knew it had overheating issues when I purchased it. The water pump, thermostat, heater core had been replaced. . Pretty sure at least the heater core was second hand and the person who did the work is a half assed mechanic, i know hes my brother in law. I had it flushed and the coolant tank changed out including the hoses so the only thing in the cooling system that hasnt been changed is the radiator. I burped the system myself the other day and it really did help but the vehicle still gets hot when it is run on the freeway over 65mph for more than 15 minutes and I also still do not have heat. Im not entirely sure what needs to be done, to make matters worse when i got it back from the mechanic the check engine light was on. Insult to injury he also took off the under protection, didn't tell me, but when asked about it he said it was dragging and against the tires which was BS because I was under the car the day before and I had it bolted perfectly back in place, took me 45 minutes of agony only for him to rip it out without telling me. Do you have any suggestions about the overheating issue and the lack of heat, its already below freezing where I live.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  8 лет назад

      +Brandi S I have never replaced a radiator for an overheating issue, if it has overheated this many times it is time for a head gasket test- www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NPDL76/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000NPDL76&linkCode=as2&tag=fordt-20&linkId=ZKD4OBYIGWYOO57W What is the temp it is overheating to? Was the thermostat installed the correct way as shown in my video?

    • @BrandiDandelion
      @BrandiDandelion 8 лет назад

      +FordTechMakuloco. . . im choosing to replace the radiator because someone before my brother in law put a lot of stop leak in it and its been in there for a while, since it is part of the cooling system and someone os willing to do the work for free i would replace it. I dont know if the thermastat was installed correctly, like i said my brother in law is a half assed mechanic. other than overheating it has no other signs of a cracked head and the mechanics that ive talked to with NO monetary benefit swaying the decision have said they dont think its the head. after i burped the system of air it got alot better. Its just a weird situation, i takes a while to warm up and it doesnt get hot going 55mph but when you go over 3000rpm for more than 15 minutes it begins to overheat, just not like before i removed some air from the system. The temperature comes down a little when i turn on the heater but still no heat and the fluid goes down when i do it as well so it does look like the fluid is going though the heater core. Its got me quite frusyrated, my brother in law wont talk to me about the car without yelling and reminding me i knew about the problems like thats going to help, hes hopeless.

    FordTechMakuloco You did a very good job on preparing the mounting surface. 1> What tool did you use for the cleaning? Scotch? 2> Should we put the bleeding valve toward the top? 3> I don't see you use any sealant on the paper gasket. Is that correct? Thank you

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад +1

      I used a scotch brite pad for final cleaning after scraping off the baked on paper gasket. I brought the neck of the thermostat to the wire wheel on the bench grinder to clean that. As stated in the video the bleed valve is indexed in the housing, if you need to watch it again I go over this and it is very important so the t-stat sits flush. No sealant is required on the ford gaskets at all.

    Question, what happens if the index or whatever, isn't in the oblong area? I have it in the correct direction and my check engine light is off so the problem seems to be fixed, but I don't know about that that last part. It looks as though the thermostat comes closed and you have to open it.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      If it is not indexed right it does not sit flush in the housing therefore it will not block the water flow properly and there will always be a bypass of water. So the worst thing shy of an external leak is longer engine warm up times.

      On an engine like this with a degas bottle you fill and burp all through the degas bottle. If you have a regular reservoir and a radiator cap directly on the radiator then you fill and bleed at the radiator.

    I have a 96 ford taurus. I changed my thermostat on my old car that was an 01 Hyundai Elantra, but i did not need to change the coolant. Is it 100% needed to empty the coolant before changing the thermostat?

      FordTechMakuloco I installed the new one , but it leaks , screwed one of the bolts too tight so when I went to go undo it to correct the leak one of the bolts broke off, please help

      Kevin Wells Oh man not good time to drill it out and start over you just need to snug them is all using a 1/4 ratchet is best to limit your torque.
