  • Hey Good People,
    I had a 2015 Ford Taurus in the shop this week. Customer could not pass Georgia emissions and the check engine light was on. He also mentioned he has been replacing the catalytic converter every year. This is where maintenance comes in. It is the key to taking care of your car.
    In this video, I go through my entire diagnosis and repair process.
    Find out what treatment plan I prescribed this patient by watching the video. I hope you enjoy, and I hope you learn something. That is always my goal.
    P.S I used the closed caption in this video because there is a lot of background noise. My techs were working on their jobs as well at the time of filming. I appreciate your feedback if that's something you'd like for me to keep.
    Your favorite Mechanic,
    Alex

    Excellent video! Good narration and excellent camera angles and lighting. I’m surprised they made Tauruses in 2015, as I haven’t seen one on the road (Seattle area) since the 20th century.
    Which is too bad, as it was much more pleasant to drive before everyone got oversized SUVs.

    At 10:31 - it's really cool, as well as being a competitive advantage, that a spouse works in the family business. I used to live in Houston and there was a joke in the small business community that Vietnamese business could only grow to the maximum size of their family. These family run businesses had a reputation of doing the impossible, offering a higher quality product or service while still being competitive on price. These family members tended to be highly intelligent and with a strong work ethic.

    I had a 2015 Ford Fusion SE the 1st Ford I had driven in 26 years as I had a couple of them become lemons. We decided in 2015 to try them out again see if they were any better and I got my wife a 2015 Ford Fusion SE. At 22k miles it left us stranded and turned out to be a cracked cylinder head in 3 places. After Ford towed it and fixed under warranty they said it appeared to have been cracked when it was forged. We had nothing but trouble with it there after and once it hit 55k miles I had had enough and RAN back to Toyota and purchased my wife a 2020 Camry SE and have not looked back. I will not touch a Ford built after 2003 that is my rule! I have family that are hard core Ford loyal buyers, but every one I have owned except one a 1992 Ranger has been terrible:P Thing is the Fusion had the 2.5l engine which was supposed to be the bullet proof engine. Not so Bullet proof in our case. Fast forward to 2023 the 2020 Camry has been flawless and knock on wood it stays that way. Then there is my trusty 2003 GMC Sierra Toyota grade quality in those years of GM!

    I've been working on a 2011 Ford Edge, pretty much same engine. Had the same codes. I've replaced the purge valve, and sparkplugs. Still have the cats and o2 codes. Trying to figure this out, considering the o2 are like $150+. The cats are about $1000 a piece. Oh yea I also replaced the pvc when I did the plugs.

      @thezombino6119 Yes, I suspect that the o2 sensors had been rich for so long that they actually may be bad, and the cats. I really wasn't expecting to change the sparkplugs until she told me her check engine light flashes when she is giving it gas merging onto the hwy, and it hesitates. Spark was cracked in one cylinder. So I'm thinking all those burned up the o2 and cat.

    Hey Alex, i have a question. Im checking out a Vehicle on Friday and would love to hear your opinion.
    2012 Ford expedition xlt with 60k miles on it.
    Would you recommend?
    Are they expensive to maintain?
    Hows winter driving?
    Sorry to bug ya 😅

    • @thezombino6119
      @thezombino6119 11 месяцев назад +1

      ***make sure frame isn't rust rotted out.***
      I would recommend one of those at the right price.
      Take it for a spin - everything should be tight and feel mostly new still at 60k.
      does this one have a tow hitch ? if so - change all differential fluids, transmission fluid and if it's a flex fuel, look into cleaning fuel system and if near the ocean or salt water, consider changing the fuel filter as well as E85 loves moisture.
      They're not expensive to maintain. The expense usually starts at around 130 - 250k miles.
      Gas mileage: 14 mpg city / 20 mpg highway
      winter driving - for this, it's all about the tires. I'd recommend seeing Tire Rack for your next set - if you have questions they have genuine people that'll answer your questions. They cool.
      Overall - great vehicle.
      sorry, I'm not the car doctor, but I do dabble with cars

    Pro tip. When installing spark plugs; get an 8” piece of fuel line that will just fit over the ceramic spark plug body. Use that to guide the plug into the hole. Then immediately start threading the plug into the hole using the fuel line to turn the plug. You will be able to feel if it is cross threaded. You will also then guide the plug into the combustion chamber easily without banging it into the casting and affecting the gap.

    Great video Alex! I enjoy watching your shorts that I come across and finally decided to watch a video. I'm glad you explained the issue, how it effected the rest of the vehicle. Love to see it man!
    If any of you by any chance have a 4 cyl ford and the hose is like.. heat crimped to the valve, if you cleanly cut the hose on fuel tank side at, you can shove either a 3/8 or 5/16? fuel hose to connect the cut portions together (its gotta be a snug fit). Only make the cut if you can piece them back together with a fuel hose - very low pressure builds here, and I think only when the car is off ... something like 1 psi, so no hose clamp or any other clamp needed since like The Car Doctor says, it's a vacuum when it's functioning.

    Fuel induction is one way of cleaning the dirty intake valves can you use walnut shells to blast the area clean if there’s lots of accumulated deposits? When I bought my Ford Flex it was also a concern and several RUclips videos were made about the subject and some videos suggested use of catch can’s to help control the deposit issue. What’s your thinking about these things?

  • @JG-yd8so
    @JG-yd8so 11 месяцев назад +1

    Almost, you should verify plug gap with gap tool/ gauge. There are a few flexible tools available to help remove loose plugs and seat new plugs, large diameter vacuum hose works great too. Even “guided down” there will be a drop, that will lessen the plug gap.
    Other wise, good diag. .

    • @AlexTheCarDoctor
      @AlexTheCarDoctor  11 месяцев назад +2

      I read somewhere don’t stick gap tools in these particular plugs you can damage them that’s why they cover them with the plastic protector, so it will maintain gap. I forgot to mention the hoses for spark plug guides. Thanks for reminding us. thanks buddy I try my best.
