You can correct for that and also a tired O2 sensor with a potentiometer to vary the signal voltage. Mechanics have and exhaust gas analyzer to make sure you got it right. Also, if your cat is tired, you can remove the spark lead (safely) to one cyclinder and the unburned fuel will make the cat go red or even yellow hot. Red is enough - about 5-10 minutes. I used the straight double stack parts store defouler method on my 98 chevy. Worked great. Drill one out for the o2 then stack it on the unmodified one with the small orfice on the end, then screw the assembly in the exhaust
It's not looking for dirty air it's looking for oxygen. In reality your J pipe creates a venturi effect as the exhaust gases pass by the opening so the sensor will never see anything as the tube will have a vacuum in it. Good idea I just don't think you have a full understanding of how and why it works. Thanks for making this video.
IT WORKED!!!! It friggin worked!!!! I had to go back and find your video and tell you thank you this SH%* worked🎉🎉🎉 Dont forget the blow out part but baby it WORKED❤❤❤
Thanks for explaining how they work. I had been trying to google that, and been trying to find the explaination. Makes sense why the elbow version works better now.
On Nissan, if you drill out the tip of an anti-fouler plug so the rear 02 sensor will be pulled out of the main exhaust, it tricks the pcm into believing the cat is working
I don’t it just depends on the vehicle and the condition of the cat. Sometimes they’ll work, sometimes they won’t. If the cat is clogged enough…it won’t matter.
Thats a better extender for sure. According to the theory the longer the extender the better. Also, If you drill a small hole at the end of the extender the venturi effect will suck in cool air and dilute the exhaust further.
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and for doing it for free! WOW! You're a super guy! I'm DEF watching your vids! I'll let you know if it works for me.
I'm here, for the catalytic converter info, and didn't realize you did the 4X4 upgrades etc. I do have a Ford F150 4X4, but it sees little use in the back country these days. It's still all OEM, and I've always owned an ATV for back country jaunts, to myself living here in the Pacific Northwest of Canada, but have travelled to Utah to the many off-road locations, and have seen some awesome scenery in doing so obviously.
Kind of nuts. This doesn’t always work on every vehicle…but hopefully it does for you. They got super smart with the tubing on more recent vehicles and it won’t throw a cat code but it will throw a “slow to respond code”. Meaning the time it takes the second sensor to respond like the first one on deceleration is too long. They are trying hard to eliminate the work arounds. But on lots of vehicles this works.
Glad I saw this 😄 Firestone tried to take me for a $2159 ride that was O2 sensors included. I knew something was fishy when they charged 200 apiece for those plus $100 labor bringing them to $500. I can put those on myself. Hell if it's bolt on/ screw on I will give it a shot.

CEL's for "high-voltage" persisted (NTK & Mopars give off 3.5 ohms). Almost bought new Catalytic convertors (also tried cleaning the cats & even using the spark plug non-fouler trick but CEL's persisted due to cheapo O2 sensors - non-foulers will not work if your cheap sensors are sending incorrect voltages to the PCM). Another key tip: O2 sockets are not meant to "break loose" difficult sensors - the wrench (link below), with a hammer, worked perfectly for breaking loose the sensor (after broken loose, then you can use the slotted sensor socket). That’s strange. It could just be that the computer has seen the issue, but hasn’t seen it often enough to throw the light. A computer usually has to see it 3 times within a certain amount of runtime/mileage for it to actually trigger a light.
Where did you order that 90 degree defouler from? I've looked everywhere for one and can only find the straight ones which won't fit into the small space that I have.
it doesn't read less exhaust it stabilize the voltage signal sent back to the ECM and in actually the distance it spaces is more important than straight vs 90 if room permits you can use 2 straight spacers to get the same distance as that 90
Depends on the vehicle. Some are now programs to see the change within a certain time limit on deceleration. So Spacing it too far would still cause a light.
Thank you for this video I really do appreciate it. Is that copper o-ring that comes with the j-spacer supposed to go on before you screw on the oxygen sensor basically between the spacer and the oxygen sensor?
The biggest hack for this issue is not this one. The best hack is to vacuum seal the downstream O2 sensor, and plug the Cat Conv hole. This way, the O2 sensor due to vacuum seal will not sense any O2.
That’s a great tip. But…it won’t work on new-ish vehicles because the second sensor needs to see a change in less than a quarter of a second following the other O2 sensor on deceleration. I'm dealing with this same deal on a 2007 FJ Cruiser. I had it diagnosed t my mechanics shop today and it shows the Cat is bad on the driver's side. Number 2 bank I'm assuming. The O2 sensors weren't throwing codes. Im wondering if this could be applied to my FJ?
Can someone post how they are doing this? Do you have to drill a hole somewhere as some are saying or are you just threading this into the existing hole? AND….where are you finding this adapter ? TIA
I am just learning to fix my 2001 ford expedition 5.4l 4x4. My friend and I had to replace the plugs and coils when another mechanic left my truck tore apart tools thrown in yard. Took it to OReillys and they put on the scanner but there was no code for the cat. We really think its the cat can we take it off and clean it? I really need my truck to run better so I can find a job. I can not afford any more mechanics just taking my money and not fixing the problem . I put a new battery and it started right up but had to drive with both feet because if I would take my foot off the gas it wants to die. Putting in the new plugs and coils helped alot I dont have to drive with both feet anymore but accelerating and climbing up hills is sluggish and it uses too much gas. I am hoping removing the cat and cleaning it will help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hi good afternoon. Got a question I have a nissan altima 2008 2.5 and it gave me cod P0240 . When I put the car on drive it makes a loud noise and it go on reverse when it on drive. What that me is it my axle is broke.
If it’s stalling..you are far beyond this fix. It you are driving in the street you should have it fixed properly. The stalling could be a completely different issue. But it could be a clogged catalytic converter and could cause other issues.
I just bought a 2010 Accord ex-l 2.4. During the test drive there was no check engine lights, of course Now there is, the owner stated it had the same gas in the tank for perhaps 6 months, could old/bad gas cause p0420?
My Ford edge replaced the O2 sensors. Cadillac converter is beautiful clean it kept on throwing the code 4 months later bam here. I am all Loader all over again. I did what he said and not be damned. I was getting sick of buying $700 worth of O2 sensorsand you’re right about the Ford. They’re good vehicle but some of the shit they do they should be smacked.😂
On the internet. You’ll have to search. I bought it from a website that is no longer up and running. But there are out there. A quick google search and you’ll find them.
Need some advice. I have a 96 ford four winds class c motorhome. The cat was stolen. The RV ran rough when i bought it 3 yrs ago. No engine lights on. Now i need to replace it. I hardly drive it. Can i just put a straight pipe on it ? I dont know if the o2 sensors were stolen also. It is expensive to replace and the muffler shop wants to replace with after matket parts. That does not seem fair. The ins co needs to compensatee for one of like kind. I know RV is old but I need some advice. Cop told me off record to just use straight pipe. Im 56 yr old female with very little knowledge or help on this matter. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
I would replace the cat with an aftermarket one. It will still be cheaper than replacing it with a factory one and will still do what it’s meant to do. Because it is an on road vehicle…I would replace it and be sure to follow the law. Fines are really big if you get caught. It’s just not worth it.
That wouldn’t work. Because the sensor needs to read something and it knows what it’s looking for. If you pulled it out and taped it off it would absolutely cause a check engine light…
I have a 2017 dodge carvan, check engine light has been on for 30 000miles.i just replaced all 02 sensors and it finally went off for a day. When my tr tion control light comes onI loose power have to pull over shut the car off, then restart again. My husband died last year he said he didn't pit a gasket I where cc goes to exhaust?can this cause this problem?
It isn't hard to design a circuit that looks at the signal from the front sensor and then produces what the computer thinks is an appropriate signal from the rear sensor. This works great if you want to use an "off-road" pipe on your off-road vehicle. Such a circuit is simple, analog, and cheap. Maybe I should create a channel with illustrations just to shove it up Kalipornia's holster. But this simple mechanical solution is perfect for the more mechanically than electronically inclined.
That code refers to bank 1. Bank 1 is whichever side of the motor has cylinder number 1, so it would depend on what motor you have in your vehicle. At the same time, both Cats have exhaust flowing through them at the same rate. So if you have it for one side…the other side probably isn’t too far behind and will probably throw a code soon. Just remember though, this is for Offroad use only. If you are doing this in the street to cheat emissions….you are risking a big ticket and fines of caught. So it might be better to just clean the cat out or replace it. Replacing it with an aftermarket CARB approved cat will save you money over the factory cats.
@@WarPaintOffroad Yup - This is for an offroad rig. I noticed that the part comes with an o ring and a few other items but no instructions. Your vid doesn't show the install either. Where do the other parts go on the extender?
Juat installed some j pipes on my 2019 f250. Got them from summit racing part "Vibrant Performance 19019" Look the same as the ones he has in the video. Hopefully they help
Hey love your video my car runs fine but have sometimes has dead spot on acceleration i do smell a strong exhaust smell start up and while idling i think my catalytic converters are starting to fail what do u think
It could definitely be a cat failing. When the honey comb inside the cat gets blocked or corroded enough…it can fall apart and block exhaust flow. It very well could be that.
I have a Subaru STI, 2019 and got a P0420 code. I bought a new O2 sensor and new cat, the code still comes back. COBB is saying I need to install an OEM downpipes from the turbo. I have an upgraded high flow downpipe. Grrrrr....
I’m. It a Subaru expert. But I have had other vehicles that have performance down pipes off the turbos. Sometimes those high flow cars aren’t enough to meet the standards. They were in the vehicle that I had…but I have heard of that happening too. I definitely wouldn’t mess around with it if it’s a street driven vehicle. Lose some power, meet the emissions standards. Be in the correct side of the law. It’s just easier and the right thing to do.
Tough question. Depending on how bad it is…it could be. It just depends on what the state inspection level is versus the level of pollutants the car is putting out. So I can’t speak to that. It’s truly meant just for Offroad use. To eliminate a check engine light so the driver can see a light come on for a potential issue down the road.
On road and off road are the same just because your on a dirt road doesnt make it ok to.pollute the air but i think the whole smog thing is a scam i have a.mustang went to get a smog check with hollowed out cats and i got the same results with good cats
Whats your advice for me: i am from kirdistan of iraq. Our fuel is very low quality. I have jeep cherokee 2.4. It always shows the code p0430, and engine light on.i apreciate your advice

Where can we get that from?
I have done the spark plug spacer for an o2 sensor 3 times and every time it worked lol so I’m moving to the next video lol
Good looking out my friend
I'm dealing with this same deal on a 2007 FJ Cruiser. I had it diagnosed t my mechanics shop today and it shows the Cat is bad on the driver's side. Number 2 bank I'm assuming. The O2 sensors weren't throwing codes. Im wondering if this could be applied to my FJ?

Thanks for the tip!
How you doing sir I was wondering if you can tell me where I can buy that extension the one you were saying the
Can someone post how they are doing this? Do you have to drill a hole somewhere as some are saying or are you just threading this into the existing hole?
AND….where are you finding this adapter ?
TIA
Great awesome video bro ! Obey all law's 🤣🤣🤣 I just had to subscribe 🤣🤣🤣
Can this help with getting the catalytic monitor to turn on?
Hi good afternoon. Got a question I have a nissan altima 2008 2.5 and it gave me cod P0240 . When I put the car on drive it makes a loud noise and it go on reverse when it on drive. What that me is it my axle is broke.
If my car is staling, would it be ok to try this? I'm barely making ends meet and can't afford to fix catalic converter.
If it’s stalling..you are far beyond this fix. It you are driving in the street you should have it fixed properly. The stalling could be a completely different issue. But it could be a clogged catalytic converter and could cause other issues.
Will this still work if your cats are gutted out? I'm thinking about having mines gutted, so they are still there visually!
Thanks for your tips
I just bought a 2010 Accord ex-l 2.4. During the test drive there was no check engine lights, of course Now there is, the owner stated it had the same gas in the tank for perhaps 6 months, could old/bad gas cause p0420?
Bad gas can cause all sorts of things. Start with fresh gas and a fuel system cleaner to be sure.
Thanks, Starting with the Lucus high mileage.@@WarPaintOffroad
My Ford edge replaced the O2 sensors. Cadillac converter is beautiful clean it kept on throwing the code 4 months later bam here. I am all Loader all over again. I did what he said and not be damned. I was getting sick of buying $700 worth of O2 sensorsand you’re right about the Ford. They’re good vehicle but some of the shit they do they should be smacked.😂
Why did you put a Cadillac converter in a Ford? Should only be used in GM vehicles.
Where to buy the curved version adapter ?
On the internet. You’ll have to search. I bought it from a website that is no longer up and running. But there are out there. A quick google search and you’ll find them.
nice going you gave it to me strate keep up the good work
Appreciate the support.
Really enjoyed the tip.
Would love to win one of your rebuilds for my 98 Toyota Tacoma which I am going to gift to my grandson
Best video. Thanks.
Yesss.yess..offroad 😉
Is it just mandatory to replace the catalytic converter once the P0420/6 shows up or replacing only the sensors can get it fixed?
Depends. Honestly it could be an exhaust leak causing the code too. So it’s easier to try and replace things that are a bit cheaper first.
It's interesting I got a 2008 dakota with a leaking exhaust manifold and no one makes new one the all warp I'm told this just happend to get a p0420
Yes. An exhaust leak can cause this code too. It’s still a cat code… it an exhaust leak can affect the readings. It’s very possible.
I’m new to the channel just wanted to say hi

Great info thanks!
Where do I find the part.
You can find them with a google search. Sometimes on amazon or eBay.
What if I just unscrew the 02 sensor and tape it off somewhere
That wouldn’t work. Because the sensor needs to read something and it knows what it’s looking for. If you pulled it out and taped it off it would absolutely cause a check engine light…
I have a 2017 dodge carvan, check engine light has been on for 30 000miles.i just replaced all 02 sensors and it finally went off for a day. When my tr tion control light comes onI loose power have to pull over shut the car off, then restart again. My husband died last year he said he didn't pit a gasket I where cc goes to exhaust?can this cause this problem?
Nice video 👍👍
Good job
Where did you get that bypass for the O2 sensor
Do you have to remove it when you get your smog test?
Great question. For Offroad vehicle…didn’t need a smog test. So I’m not sure in the street how it would work.
Would this work for a 2015 Honda Accord? I replaced both
Sensors and my check engine light is still on
It isn't hard to design a circuit that looks at the signal from the front sensor and then produces what the computer thinks is an appropriate signal from the rear sensor.
I've been hearing of an increase in Cat Burglary
people finding their cat was taken off their exhaust
Happens a lot. Once they are removed there are few ways to know what vehicle it came from. But police are definitely cracking down on it.
For a P0420 code, do you extend the sensor on the passenger or driver side?
Got them from summit racing part "Vibrant Performance 19019"
Look the same as the ones he has in the video. Hopefully they help
Update haven't had a code since i installed them
My car has one oxygen sensor. No downstream sensor. No cat. The cel is on. Will it work?
thats part needs to be install in the 2 o2 sensor? The one after the cat?
Usually the one after the cat.
Would you recommend for an 04 suburban? 😅
Hey love your video my car runs fine but have sometimes has dead spot on acceleration i do smell a strong exhaust smell start up and while idling i think my catalytic converters are starting to fail what do u think
I have the exact same problem taking mine in this week
It could definitely be a cat failing. When the honey comb inside the cat gets blocked or corroded enough…it can fall apart and block exhaust flow. It very well could be that.
Thanks for replying 👍
This is not the cat. This is a failing “fuel pressure regulator”. Look that up for specifics for the one on your vehicle.
Great video. is bank 1 the sensor top side of the cat🤔
Bank one is the rear or right side
Does this fit all cars? Mine is 2005 toyota Camry does this fit for me? I have p0420 code
Would this still be ok if you had emissions test?
Tough question. Depending on how bad it is…it could be. It just depends on what the state inspection level is versus the level of pollutants the car is putting out. So I can’t speak to that. It’s truly meant just for Offroad use. To eliminate a check engine light so the driver can see a light come on for a potential issue down the road.
On road and off road are the same just because your on a dirt road doesnt make it ok to.pollute the air but i think the whole smog thing is a scam i have a.mustang went to get a smog check with hollowed out cats and i got the same results with good cats
Which should it be installed on first or second sensor upstream or downstream?
The second.
@@WarPaintOffroad Thanks
What size should be used or is there a standard size?
Would this work on a 05 4.0 Nissan frontier??
It might. But be forewarned that evading inspection and environmental laws will result in big fines. So I wasn’t kidding when I said Offroad only.
Whats your advice for me: i am from kirdistan of iraq. Our fuel is very low quality. I have jeep cherokee 2.4. It always shows the code p0430, and engine light on.i apreciate your advice
Move away😂
