I use these techniques a lot now, they are great effects to use! It took me forever to realize the importance of strategically placed silence and breaks in songs. I also like to use the hard panned L&R guitars where you cut one ear then switch to the other (often with a more pronounced filter on it) in a transition back to stereo on the downbeat.
I just today used Howard Benson Vocals to go from lofi Chino-like vocals in the main verse to a gritty but super wide whisper in the pre chorus. Both with different reverbs using the free DVerb reverb and free Epic Plate. The difference in reverbs with each section really helps it stand out.
Some seriously useful advices here. Sometimes I get a record that has been cut right at the end of the note or even at the half of it, which obviously sounds abrupt. I'm used to do the following: I cut out that one last note and use a heavy reverb on it, so that the tail was as loud as the note itself. Adjust tail length and blend to taste and have a nice ongoing note.
Great video, the Howard Benson plugin looks like fun and I can't wait to try it! I use reverse cymbals, risers, white noise swells, 808s and some of the things mentioned here. I make my own samples for transitions and other effects, so they are easy to pull from a browser during the mixing (or even recording) process, so that my creative flow isn't interrupted. I have created a large post-production pack of 300 samples that I have ready whenever I need them in my DAW.
I have to say, the sound design in the ACTUAL videos, like all the songs used during the narrations are GREAT. I'd love to know who creates them. Also the video editing is crazy organized. Its all so well done.
I've been trying the HB vocal multiplier on any lead sound that needs a bit of extra magic. It sounds just as good on synth and guitars as it does vocals.

Nice technique. Combining that with lo-fi effects (and having them ready as presets/samples) is something I've found useful in my own mixes.

more of those that explain how to better the production. loved it.
Nice one!
Literally just listened to this song for the first time yesterday. "Chemicals" by Conquer Divide. Really well produced Joey!
I've been wondering what song that was for a while!
I've been using the best cut technique for years, I've just never thought of how to explain it to others, great video 🙌
Awesome video Joey, very helpful as always 🤘
So cool!
Would love an entire chorus on this topic! Any suggestions?
Joey, so are you using Pro tools now instead of cubase?
This may be my first time being the first comment on a video ever. Can't wait to see what it's about
