The PS3 version looks a bit more "dreamy" and in general pixelated. The PS4 version is a definite improvement here. But I feel like the lighting in the PS3 version is more atmospheric in some places. But that might be different because the scenes were recorded in different ingame times? Besides that, really nice video, very well made!
i might be wrong but i think that the dreamy look is inspired by the sfumato technique that was used in renaissance paintings. its a technique that create like a soft and blurred effect in the image. Da vinci is known for using that technique in his paintings such as The Mona Lisa.

Well...I have to say I really, really loved the fact that every city had its specific "fog" and "color". Like how Monteriggioni was "green and grey" and Firenze was "red". I mean, I can see lots of graphic improvements, figures were not as sharp or defined before the remastered version, but I really wish they hadn't taken out that foggy and dreamy atmosphere that made places look so beautiful and unique.
ps 4 graphic's look amazing but the original graphics give you the good old vibe behind the game.I mean ,the new graphics lose all the nostalgia of the game because they seem like a simple ps 4 game .I don't know if you understand but if you do ,you know exactly what i mean :)

The noon and the nights are better in ps3 but maybe San Gimignano and Forli's nights looks better on ps4. By the way the afternoon with the sun hiding in the mountains in Florence in ps4 is more accurated than in ps3
Ps4 sucks... The only good thing is the new Lightning sistem and The hd textures but in Monterigione without that Green Mist you can see all the missing textures and things from all of the map
I don't get why they completely threw out AC2's style of colour grading and bloom, it's what set it apart from the others and created very specific moods for each location. The "remaster" just looks flat in comparison to the original. It's all the more baffling since they didn't change Brotherhood or Revelations AT ALL.
I didn't like the bloom effect in AC2. it was good, but by today's standard it's not, And i'm glad that they (Ubisoft) remove that bloom effect in this remastered version. Now just wait them to release this version to PC.

i hate when people do graphic comparison videos they can never seem to do both versions at the same time of day in the game like in this video the ps3 version always seemed to be at night and the ps4 version was during the day if you want compare graphics do it at the same time of day in game

I love both for different reasons. It's like they say, "you may look at the past with fresher eyes and things may seem clearer but you can't feel exactly what was felt in that moment ever again." Ezio's trilogy, especially AC2 and Brotherhood, will always have a special place in my heart whether they're remastered or not. The music, the ambience in both, the storyline and music will always be engraved in my memory regardless of the quality. The game/s represented a time in my life where things sorta made sense and I just disappeared into the gameplay for hours on end. And despite loving the remastered version for ps4, I can see why that little bit of magic is lost with the finer details. When AC2 first came out it was a dream for me. I adored every aspect of the game. Still do. I remember being in love with some of the facial features some of the characters had and I can admit they lost that little touch in the remastered version. Even with the Subject Sixteen memories...the beginning of each memory of his always had this dangerous darkness about it, like we were honestly discovering this dark truth about our society and the whole darker ambience of the dark grey shattered glass and fragments made it seem like the whole thing was a blur but in the remastered version... that screen where Subject Sixteen was talking was made a lighter shade of grey and it lost that dark shattered mind affect. I love them both for different reasons.
If you give me the PS3 and PS4 version, I will still prefer the PS3 version, both versions are good, but the PS3 version is more atmospheric for me, and I think that in the PS4 version the characters are a little ugly.
Pure technical conversion. PS4 is sharper but they completely butchered the art style which relayed heavily on specific type of lighting. With volumetric lighting this could have been fixed but now the end result just looks really bad and flat. Stay away.
While the higher resolution and sharper look is appreciative it misses the gloomy renaissance oil painting look of the original, and looks too bright most of the time. The original game admittedly looked way too "smeary" and was covered in a bad Vaseline-like filter, but I feel they could've done a way better job preserving the original look of the game while updating it.
tbh the remastered version looks like a huge improvement from the original one, the original looked phantom like, or if It was blurred for console limitations, they removed the green filter from the original, made it sharper, raised the resolution by a substantial amount
It wasn’t a green filter, it was Green, red, yellow, brown, blue. Every city had it’s representative color. The game was fucked up with all the colorless cities looking the same 😒
The haziness gave it style. It made the world feel mysterious and dreamy. Plus, it had the added effect of hiding the blocky graphics for the most part. The graphics look even more dated with the lack of blur. Also, Allan's right, every city had it's own unique colour and atmosphere. Not so much now.
The remaster definitely has improvements, but I disagree that it's better over all, I've played through both, and I prefer the original due to the look and feel.
besides the resolution bump and texture upgrades,i think the remastered version kinda sucks..it still has most of the bugs and its lighting is bad and its lost the whole environment that the ps3 had..ps3 environment and lighting is alot better in my opinion

The reason the PS3 version had so much fog is because the PS3 couldn't render all the buildings fast enough so they hide it behind fog. Similar to bo2 transit zombies. Dense fog and those annoying zombies that grab onto you slow you down so the PS3 can render the map. Now that this game is on PS4 they could remove all that shit and brighten the game up.

I will stay with the PS3 version. Look at the smoke bombs on PS4, it seemed as they were made of flour. Also, too much definition ruins that sensation that you are the main character... the dreamy sensation of Ps3 is because it seems as we are only focused on one vision plane, while the Ps4 version shows you the smallest detail of every corner and makes me feel that indeed it is a videogame

For me as a gameplayer and as a graphic designer the Original PS3 looks and flows very very beautifully!... This is a flagrant example how the most simple things can be more pretty and magical... But to do it you have to know how you can make it happen! Its 'painted' by the myst, fog and the contrasts... Great video and great Music choice! polygon counts and resolution don't mean all that much to me, i still think chrono trigger is one of the most beautiful looking games i've played, and it still amazes me every time i play it. then i'll try a game like ff15 and it looks dull and boring by comparison, even though it's far more technically superior.

I still don’t get why they took out the representative color from every city. Blue Venice and it’s glowing water it’s magically gorgeous. It’s all gone in the remaster, all the cities look exactly the same... 😒
The Ps3 Version is a lot better the colors the Water the smoke its so Dreamy the Atmosphere the Bright light in Venice Yes the Ps4 Version is Sharper Higher Resolution but without these things it didnt fell right.
The textures, lighting, resolution and antialiasing are definitely greatly improved and sharper on PS4. But I feel like that was achieved by stripping away the atmospheric feel of AC2. This game definitely had a gloomy/sad tone to it and that definitely added to its charm (probably due to its dramatic storyline). Now all of this is absent from the remastered AC2. Bad move Ubisoft.
Ps4 had a good thing going for the sharper image.... But! I love how the ps3 had more of a own atmosphere like experience... Too bad they changed the lighting a night bolder... Instead of the nice glow in the ps3 version...
I know the PS3 version was more blurry but I felt like that was distance blur included. Everything being in focus in the PS4 version just looks weird. Plus the PS3 had this mystical coloured lighting that is completely absent in the new version.
I was having a hard time deciding if I should buy the remastered version (my sister has the original 360 version) for my PS4 and this has definitely sold it for me. Thanks for posting this. Though, I do feel like the PS3 version had a better (for the lack of a better word) atmosphere. It was more engaging like a dream, a time long past and still haunting. Doesn't stop the Remastered version from looking fucking gorgeous though.
I prefer if they kept the PS3 Dreamy Bloom effect with the PS4 Sharpness & Details together... That would've been much better but no.... PS4 Version may be more detailed & has higher resolution but it feels so Flat without the original beautiful atmospheric art style of AC 2....
Here’s a neat thing I discovered in this video. If you pay attention to Ezio while you’re scrolling through the video timeline, in some spots he looks like he’s standing still but the world around him is moving. My guesses are where his walk animation is so in synch.

the real question is.. is this remaster ? i think not. remaster means make a same game with realistic graphics... so graphics only matter. this just only remove the fog and renew the texture this is more like an update from the game not a new game ... i mean look the new CoD modern warfare there is huge different to the old one
Dlol Face I would say what you’re searching for is a remake, for me a remaster is what this game does it is about taking the core of it and polish it up to make it run and look slightly improved on it’s current technology. A remake is redoing an entire game with new tech. Remake and remaster are not the same and they should be kept apart more from a marketing perspective so it doesn’t create misconceptions.
Ass creed 2 is the only one I got the platinum trophy. I never made any attempts with any other ass creed games because I never cared for any other characters in the series.
It also depends a lot on the timing, the ps3 version was captured during sunset, everything looks more red and orange, the ps4 was captured in daylight, remember assassins creed 2 already had day and night mechanics
I wouldn't have really cared if the Ezio Collection looked exactly the same as the original games, I still would've brought it just to play three of the best games of not just the AC series but of all time.
i replay this game all the time since it was on ps3 and now on ps4, and honestly i dont even really mind how they took away the unique tint each city had. at first when the ps4 version initially came out and i saw this comparison video, i was not satisfied with how they basically removed the atmosphere the original had, but after replaying it over the last few years i hardly even notice it and think its totally fine. ofc if you watch this video then youll see a clear difference, but if youre playing it yourself without comparing it, youre hardly even going to notice the change. i do like the original look better, like how each city had its own colored haze to it, then looking at the water its a lot more dreamy than the ps4 version, but again, if youre just playing it and not comparing then youre barely even going to notice.
Original is better. They removed important visual aspects in the transition. Reflections are handled in a more otherworldly way on the original and are on more surfaces in the original. You are in a dream. You are desmond miles. The immersion effect is gone though.
Ngl I grew up ac 2 and I think the ps4 looks way better but ps3 has its charms and for reasons too I wish there was an option to play ps3 version anyone who grew up on it knows when you think back to playing the original there’s always this blue tint when you imagine when you first played it

Let's not forget Venice's blue atmosphere. It looked the best during night with the moonlight reflecting in the waters

I remember being in love with some of the facial features some of the characters had and I can admit they lost that little touch in the remastered version. Even with the Subject Sixteen memories...the beginning of each memory of his always had this dangerous darkness about it, like we were honestly discovering this dark truth about our society and the whole darker ambience of the dark grey shattered glass and fragments made it seem like the whole thing was a blur but in the remastered version... that screen where Subject Sixteen was talking was made a lighter shade of grey and it lost that dark shattered mind affect.
I love them both for different reasons.

If you give me the PS3 and PS4 version, I will still prefer the PS3 version, both versions are good, but the PS3 version is more atmospheric for me, and I think that in the PS4 version the characters are a little ugly.
Pure technical conversion. PS4 is sharper but they completely butchered the art style which relayed heavily on specific type of lighting. With volumetric lighting this could have been fixed but now the end result just looks really bad and flat. Stay away.
While the higher resolution and sharper look is appreciative it misses the gloomy renaissance oil painting look of the original, and looks too bright most of the time.
The original game admittedly looked way too "smeary" and was covered in a bad Vaseline-like filter, but I feel they could've done a way better job preserving the original look of the game while updating it.
tbh the remastered version looks like a huge improvement from the original one, the original looked phantom like, or if It was blurred for console limitations, they removed the green filter from the original, made it sharper, raised the resolution by a substantial amount
It wasn’t a green filter, it was Green, red, yellow, brown, blue. Every city had it’s representative color.

The haziness gave it style. It made the world feel mysterious and dreamy. Plus, it had the added effect of hiding the blocky graphics for the most part. The graphics look even more dated with the lack of blur.
Also, Allan's right, every city had it's own unique colour and atmosphere. Not so much now.
The remaster definitely has improvements, but I disagree that it's better over all, I've played through both, and I prefer the original due to the look and feel.
besides the resolution bump and texture upgrades,i think the remastered version kinda sucks..it still has most of the bugs and its lighting is bad and its lost the whole environment that the ps3 had..ps3 environment and lighting is alot better in my opinion

The reason the PS3 version had so much fog is because the PS3 couldn't render all the buildings fast enough so they hide it behind fog. Similar to bo2 transit zombies. Dense fog and those annoying zombies that grab onto you slow you down so the PS3 can render the map. Now that this game is on PS4 they could remove all that shit and brighten the game up.
They royally fucked up the lighting in the Ezio collection taking away that surreal historic feel the originals had. Brotherhood in particular has a piss filter for lighting. Plus this shit looks bad on here maybe his PS3 fucked up but I my game on Xbox 360 looks lot better on my HD 1080p 32' TV. On my set It looks slightly sharper on PS4 with worse lighting and slightly better shadows and textures. Plus the light sources disappear at a very short distance in the Ezio collection giving the city a dead look when you are in high place during night time. Not buying this is No big loss on PS4. Also Multiplayer is not found in the shitty Ezio collection. Also it has shadow glitches in Ezio collection. In venice the shadow rendering is just piss poor with shadows cutting out and appearing out of thin air at close range. Ill take the original any day of the week.
The new one is cleaner but I preferred the original, that colour gradient gave it an unsettling and dream like atmosphere

I will stay with the PS3 version. Look at the smoke bombs on PS4, it seemed as they were made of flour. Also, too much definition ruins that sensation that you are the main character... the dreamy sensation of Ps3 is because it seems as we are only focused on one vision plane, while the Ps4 version shows you the smallest detail of every corner and makes me feel that indeed it is a videogame

For me as a gameplayer and as a graphic designer the Original PS3 looks and flows very very beautifully!... This is a flagrant example how the most simple things can be more pretty and magical... But to do it you have to know how you can make it happen! Its 'painted' by the myst, fog and the contrasts... Great video and great Music choice! polygon counts and resolution don't mean all that much to me, i still think chrono trigger is one of the most beautiful looking games i've played, and it still amazes me every time i play it. then i'll try a game like ff15 and it looks dull and boring by comparison, even though it's far more technically superior.

The Ps3 Version is a lot better the colors the Water the smoke its so Dreamy the Atmosphere the Bright light in Venice Yes the Ps4 Version is Sharper Higher Resolution but without these things it didnt fell right.
The textures have improved on PS4 and they look sharp and distinct.

The textures, lighting, resolution and antialiasing are definitely greatly improved and sharper on PS4. But I feel like that was achieved by stripping away the atmospheric feel of AC2. This game definitely had a gloomy/sad tone to it and that definitely added to its charm (probably due to its dramatic storyline). Now all of this is absent from the remastered AC2. Bad move Ubisoft.
Ps4 had a good thing going for the sharper image.... But! I love how the ps3 had more of a own atmosphere like experience... Too bad they changed the lighting a night bolder... Instead of the nice glow in the ps3 version...
I know the PS3 version was more blurry but I felt like that was distance blur included. Everything being in focus in the PS4 version just looks weird. Plus the PS3 had this mystical coloured lighting that is completely absent in the new version.

I was having a hard time deciding if I should buy the remastered version (my sister has the original 360 version) for my PS4 and this has definitely sold it for me. Thanks for posting this. Though, I do feel like the PS3 version had a better (for the lack of a better word) atmosphere. It was more engaging like a dream, a time long past and still haunting. Doesn't stop the Remastered version from looking fucking gorgeous though.

Here’s a neat thing I discovered in this video. If you pay attention to Ezio while you’re scrolling through the video timeline, in some spots he looks like he’s standing still but the world around him is moving. My guesses are where his walk animation is so in synch.

Dlol Face I would say what you’re searching for is a remake, for me a remaster is what this game does it is about taking the core of it and polish it up to make it run and look slightly improved on it’s current technology. A remake is redoing an entire game with new tech.
Remake and remaster are not the same and they should be kept apart more from a marketing perspective so it doesn’t create misconceptions.
Ass creed 2 is the only one I got the platinum trophy. I never made any attempts with any other ass creed games because I never cared for any other characters in the series.
It also depends a lot on the timing, the ps3 version was captured during sunset, everything looks more red and orange, the ps4 was captured in daylight, remember assassins creed 2 already had day and night mechanics

i replay this game all the time since it was on ps3 and now on ps4, and honestly i dont even really mind how they took away the unique tint each city had. at first when the ps4 version initially came out and i saw this comparison video, i was not satisfied with how they basically removed the atmosphere the original had, but after replaying it over the last few years i hardly even notice it and think its totally fine. ofc if you watch this video then youll see a clear difference, but if youre playing it yourself without comparing it, youre hardly even going to notice the change. i do like the original look better, like how each city had its own colored haze to it, then looking at the water its a lot more dreamy than the ps4 version, but again, if youre just playing it and not comparing then youre barely even going to notice.

Original is better. They removed important visual aspects in the transition. Reflections are handled in a more otherworldly way on the original and are on more surfaces in the original. You are in a dream. You are desmond miles. The immersion effect is gone though.
Ngl I grew up ac 2 and I think the ps4 looks way better but ps3 has its charms and for reasons too I wish there was an option to play ps3 version anyone who grew up on it knows when you think back to playing the original there’s always this blue tint when you imagine when you first played it
