I'm glad you are getting it running, as the Town and Country looks like a great car overall. It would be great if you could wash it and do a basic interior cleaning so we could see what condition it's in. The shop would probably also be happier to work on something not quite so grimy. ;-)
The brown box you found inside is the control unit for a television antenna rotator. The companion unit mounts on the steel pole that supports the antenna at the top of a separate steel pole. These were common in areas where television stations were located in different directions. Good luck with getting the car going again.
I know when I buy a car that sat for many years, the first thing I do is drop the oil pan and transmission pan before I think off ever starting a car that sat that long. Believe me you don't want that 40 year old sludge being suck back up in your engine block, same with your tranny. I have been down that road, it sucks!Take your time, I like to see the old gal on the road again too! So good luck!
