This was the last great music ever created. The early 90s to mis 90s. Very unique. There are bands that do it today but not mainstream. I think mastodon comes close now.
Yea this whole song is building and it’s perfect kinda like sober by tool how when the guitar stops everything stops and then it all comes back and makes this awesome song
If you ever had the pleasure to play through a 100w Marshall Stack on high gain and high volume, the last guitar chord of this song will never leave you.
@@clevelandshredder I can barely appreciate it, but can't fully tell apart the notes or enjoy that melody, it's pretty brillant tho, but the main distorded chords fill the sound a lot more in this one
@@zman_1148 Not just the 90s, really everything after Hagar joined. But to your point, I've always thought DeLeo's tone had a very Van Halen-ish sound to it, so this makes sense.
Dean has said before he mixed this way on purpose to give it more of a vintage tone. In fact most of his gear that he uses today is what they used back in the 90’s
Right? It's like hot summer nights, best of both worlds at time lol...they weren't afraid to wear there "non 90s" I fluences on there sleeves in addition to being musical....they had the sweet spot,
Yeah, most likely the Les Paul is on the Left/Middle and there`s a 12 string on the right (rickenbacker maybe?) and an acoustic on the hard left with a room mic on the right.
@@BrianAndersonPhotography yeah I definitely didn't hear that when I first heard the song. It's this little things that make a difference in a song I'm sure too.
Remember to pay tribute/credit Rob Deleo who wrote the guitar melody pure genius!
Robert was the true genius in this band
the way he incorporated the tri tone in the initial riff was awesome
@@bigfaxxx1854 That picking part during the chorus is amazing.

By accident, but yes LOL! Talk about 'Happy Accidents'!
Its crazy that they created such a warm sound to depressing lyrics. I guess most music from early 90s did that. Very unique.

Arguably the best song of the 90s, imo-
Yes, little bittersweet song
If you ever had the pleasure to play through a 100w Marshall Stack on high gain and high volume, the last guitar chord of this song will never leave you.
I've never played with a stack or a tube amp, but I love that last sustained chord. Someday I will have the pleasure and play this song, I have to.
That 2:45 lick it's brutal. Sad you cant hear it on the full song
I’ve always noticed it in the recording
@@clevelandshredder I can barely appreciate it, but can't fully tell apart the notes or enjoy that melody, it's pretty brillant tho, but the main distorded chords fill the sound a lot more in this one
You mean The Beatles guitar part. I never noticed it until I listened with headphones. Very well crafted part.
All the guitarists know why they're here ... 2:45
Yeah you got it!
YESSSS HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Nailed it.
it sounds like he's hitting a temp minor chord
Exactly! That transition is buttery smooth then punches you right in face to come back
That 5th stroke chord makes me smile and depresses the hell out of me at the same time
2:45 When you enter the Water Level
Bro yessss
SNES vibes
Dean DeLeo, one of the most under rated. But, real guitarists know.
Fuck yeah buddy
And anyone who knows about studio recording and engineering. Absolutely beautiful
STP is a brilliant band.
Killer tone, saw them live. Their sound was amazing.
Yeah I think he runs a dry and wet signal which is why it sounds so gritty but clean at the same time
@@quistador7 evh did the same thing in the 90s too

Awesome really appreciate this. Helps to figure out the tone tremendously
Genius
My god....never heard a guitar sound so big....it's fuckin huge...love it!!
I never realized how warm his tone was. They should have mixed this more like VH II sonically. It would have made the track even cooler
I love he guitar tone on that album

This isn't an accurate representation of what the masters sound like...
@@ryans9029 Of course it isn't, because no one has the actual stems, they've just had to isolate it. But I imagine it's close enough.

it sounds like a tc electronics 1210 rack mount chorus - its freakin huge !
Just the good ol’ BOSS CE-1 Chorus Ensemble!
A lot of jazz chords used here, sounds great.
Holy shit this channel is gold.
Great photo!
This video made my day. Thank you!
Rob Deleo rocks
More than one guitar in that mix.
Yeah, most likely the Les Paul is on the Left/Middle and there`s a 12 string on the right (rickenbacker maybe?) and an acoustic on the hard left with a room mic on the right.
There is at least 6 guitar tracks here. Two of them are acoustic guitars.
*are 🤣
DEAN
Rick beato jason deleo interview brought me herw
Holy shit
Why does it sound like a crowd cheering in the background? Or am I insane?
Jacob Smith probably is from rock band
@@rocketlaflare thx
It’s the headphone a mix bleed, plus there is quite a bit of wet reverb on the tone.
@@NotASaint1985 yeah and the fact that they mic'd the amp there might be some background noise involved.
I kept hearing a breath exhaling. Jumped right out....very noticeable
Flanger on the guitar(s)?
Chorus
@@Horriplex
Appreciated!
How do you load songs like this into a daw to hear the isolated tracks?
You can't because the files already bounced. You'd need to get the stems. Not sure how these people get them haha
@@JacobZirkin that's what I thought. I heard a lot of people get them from guitar hero?
Ronaldo Murphano Yeah that’s a definite option. Guitar hero probably pays the record labels for the stems and just takes out the guitar section
Holy crap there's an acoustic guitar in there.
@@BrianAndersonPhotography yeah I definitely didn't hear that when I first heard the song. It's this little things that make a difference in a song I'm sure too.
Sounds like van Halen
That chorus effect
Great point and very very surprised since that was taboo during the whole grunge period.
Chorus was all over 90s tunes just not heavy washes at times,The main riff has chorus .
@@fmbighair STP was never from the Seattle scene. There style was a little more melodic and straight rock oriented.
