This chef was part of a TV programme that put head chefs in an unfamiliar restaurants and used their staff to run a service. He was up against Aldo Zilli on the RS Hispaniola, a riverboat restaurant on the Thames. It was a restaurant that was part of a Company that I worked for as Head of Operations. At that time, the restaurant fell under my authority. Aldo Zilli was not someone I would ever want to see again as he was rude, aggressive and arrogant. The Indian chef was polite, well liked by my staff and taught them dishes and techniques even when the cameras were off. The starter looked delicious. It's made me hungry. The lamb main dish seemed really good. I love coconut sauces. Roast potatoes with an Indian twist, yummy. Love a lamb samosa too. A spinach dish always go well with a lamb curry. Quality always wins out over price. I think it's a good 8 and a half. Bit pricey but it's local to me and I'm going to give it a go.😁 Thanks for this Gary.
I wonder whether the good performance of this restaurant is down to Atul's agreeable manner and the staff at his restaurants respect him and do a good job as a result?
The 100 000k subscribers are looming on the horizon and that could not be more deserved, your genuine and authentic style of reviews is a pleasure to watch! Cheers from Belgium!
I must admit I enjoy watching Atul Kochhar cook when he is a guest on James Martin's show. He is very soft spoken and always appears very calm. Some chefs can be a bit hyper and OTT - not naming any names!
Fantastic review Gary. I discovered Gary Eats two days ago completely out of the blue. I’m hooked and am ploughing through the vids to take my mind off cancer treatment. Definitely working. Thank you!
Not watched the whole thing yet, but had to pause it and post....the cameraman shots of all the menu...absolutely perfect for me to see whats on offer))
You are not going to see me say this about the chefs on this channel much but Atul is an amazing chef and worthy of the star, I remember watching him 10/12 years ago and was impressed. He combines traditional Indian food and all the vast knowledge that it includes with a twist of Western modern. He did a Lobster dish, I think it was Kerala curry? Yes lobster and Indian which in theory should not work. Lobster should not be overpowered with spices but it was amazing!!!!! And he seems to be one that fame and fortune has not effected your experience if you are lucky to eat at one of his restaurants ;) 30 quid a head for his food is exceptional.
Evening Gary I've been to Atul's restaurant. Your starter looked really good, nice presentation which you would expect from Atul. I also loved the presentation of your lamb dish and I even have the same plates/dishes with the wide brim. I've made lamb samosas and been told mine are the best! I agree with you 9/10 I enjoyed myself at the restaurant too. He is one of the best! Thank you for the vlog Gary always a joy to see you. Suex
Evening Sahib Gary . Indian meals have taken "ATUL" on you... RATAN is amazing. The Lamb looks sensational. But Coconut sauce is not recommended due to allergies. You are correct Roast Potatoes are uncommon and we usually go for ALOO GOBI.

@@GaryEats Gary telling us something we don't know 😱😱😂😂😂😂😂😂, the restaurant is a 20 min walk away from where I live, in Orpington. Been a while since I went there with my late lady wife, iirc it was soon after it opened, not sure why we didn't go back again...
Potato in curry is a core ingredient of the Surinamese Roti (refers to an entire meal), which is a popular fusion of Indian and Dutch cuisine. Perhaps this was the inspiration of this chef?
@@GaryEats Potato is also just widely used in indian recipes. A lot of Indians are vegetarian due to religious or cultural reasons. I'm surprised you've never had potato in curry though. Saag aloo, aloo gobi they're not that uncommon in the UK. The only twist is probably that it's a roast potato instead? That's probably just some British infusion coming through. But I have done it myself at home. A nice crisp and crunch goes well with it 😀

Good to see a celebrity restaurant actually serving up quality fare. It's not cheap but you don't mind paying premium prices for premium food. Unlike other celebrity restaurants, they are clearly focused on putting out good food for their customers, instead of trying to rip them off. Nice one, Gary. Always enjoy your channel.

Another great review. Lamb starter and Lamb main I could go for that. Thought the presentation of the starter was excellent. Agree with you Gary don’t like my food in a bowl unless it’s soup. Great work by the cameraman as well.
I used to live near there. Petts Wood was a nice area. Just across the railway tracks is the exclusive Petts Wood East with some beautiful houses. Plenty of money around in that area!
My mother lived there for a time in the 1940s- during what the Irish call “ The Last Unpleasantness “. She used to tell us about the resident cat Timmy, who would bring his girlfriend home after a night on the tiles. Naturally, we thought it was called Pet’s Wood..

My daughter and son took me for an Indian meal on mother's day,I'm not very adventurous i always have a vegetable korma and garlic naan. Never heard of that chef but it did look lovely. 😋 Your a diamond Gary 💎 Roast potatoes are my guilty pleasure 😊 Xx
Great as always Gary. I must admit I do like several different curries. You have to take your hat off to these chefs when there is no sign of the main man! With summer here(?). Do you know anywhere where you can have a cracking barbecue? Do you fancy one?
Lovely video. Not sure if been there as new follower, but there’s a blinding Indian restaurant in Chingford ,east London called Mumbai maska . Absolute mustard
Excellent review again Gary. I am a very big fan of Lamb Railway Curry and have tried it in several parts of the country. Most have potatoes as part of the dish apart from one that I came across which didn't. However, the Railway curry here was a real step up and with a unique sauce, that dish alone gets a big thumbs up from me. Price-wise, I agree there was just enough for two people, making it more worth the money. There's no doubt some very innovative twists have been applied to the food here, which has certainly enhanced it in my eyes. As for a marking it's a 9/9.5 I feel with a good atmosphere as far as I can see and some excellent food served enticingly.
There was a lot of food on the.table, it looked good and according to you it was delicious. It is clearly a great place to visit. Thank you for showing us.
Gary, there’s a place in twickenham called Shuli which opened recently. Similar menu, owner is a former Michelin Star holder. Similar menu - I recommend getting the meat platter you started with (which they also do) alongside a traditional curry and other sides as it adds much needed creamy sauce to pair with. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for another great video. If you fancy some curries come up to Leicester. Paddy's Marten Inn (a few celeb chefs rate it) for your classic curry (my advice, order slightly milder than you normally order) and then Kayal for some South Indian nirvana. You won't regret either.
i have only ever had perfection tandoor prawns twice in my life and that was eons ago. takes massive skill to get the balance between a char on the outside yet keeping the inside succulent. speaks volumes for the chef. cheers gary
Sounded tasty, like you not sure of the brown sauce around the brown meat reminded me of something I don't want to be reminded of! The bread looked more like chapattis, but £30 a head for Michelin is certainly acceptable, glad you enjoyed it Gary!
Hi Gary, lots of different options on this one,as I said before we are seeing quite a few of these up scale Indian restaurants now.One thing I have noticed is it opens up more of the wonderful Indian cuisine to the sort of people who would not be caught in a cheaper type of Indian restaurant.I know a few of those people, and now they are enjoying this new sort of Indian restaurant.😊
That's a lush curry, Gary. Railway curry - what a treat! I think Railway curry is a recipe from the days of the Raj (pre-1946) during which the Indian railways were built and were often overseen by British Engjneers and the like, so traditional Indian foods were often adulterated a little to incorporate British favourites whilst maintaining style and spice blend.
Eating out is expensive wherever you go these days and is an infrequent treat for most, so it's so important for the meal to be exceptional. The food looks delicious, I do like Indian food ( and Chinese, Italian etc 😁 )
My last Indian review for a while. I promise lol. Enjoy the video everyone!
Not a fan of those plates either Gary must be a Michelin thing?🙄😬

I’ve been to Atul’s original restaurant and it was spectacularly good. Great to see you enjoyed this, Gary. I’ll have to make a journey to this place. 👍😊
That’s absolutely fantastic to hear 👍
Oh wow, my local curry house love their food, and I also enjoy sitting outside. Your videos are great, and i have visited a few restaurants after watching your reviews...thank you
You understand how good this one is Lisa x
Glad this review made up for the Ned..from 3.5 to 9 out of 10 is a big turn around....your channel is definitely one of the better ones... some of them are formulaic...all the best
That’s really kind to say and appreciated
My daughter and son took me for an Indian meal on mother's day,I'm not very adventurous i always have a vegetable korma and garlic naan. Never heard of that chef but it did look lovely. 😋 Your a diamond Gary 💎 Roast potatoes are my guilty pleasure 😊 Xx
That sounds delicious Margaret, it's nice to branch out from time to time and I'm glad you enjoyed your meal. Thank you and same for me xx
Great as always Gary. I must admit I do like several different curries. You have to take your hat off to these chefs when there is no sign of the main man! With summer here(?). Do you know anywhere where you can have a cracking barbecue? Do you fancy one?
Thank you and agreed. I don't but I'd love to go to one lol
South Africa 🇿🇦... we do a fabulous barbecue (braai). ❤😂
Lovely video. Not sure if been there as new follower, but there’s a blinding Indian restaurant in Chingford ,east London called Mumbai maska . Absolute mustard
I’ll take a look Eddie is it really outstanding? 👍
@@GaryEats absolute different gear mate. Chilli paneer is outstanding 👍
I’ll try that next time Eddie great suggestion
Wow that’s amazing score and agree the Railways curry was top drawer 👌
There was a lot of food on the.table, it looked good and according to you it was delicious. It is clearly a great place to visit. Thank you for showing us.
This is definitely one I’d recommend Sylvia 👌
Gary, there’s a place in twickenham called Shuli which opened recently. Similar menu, owner is a former Michelin Star holder. Similar menu - I recommend getting the meat platter you started with (which they also do) alongside a traditional curry and other sides as it adds much needed creamy sauce to pair with. Keep up the good work.
Thanks I’ll definitely take a look sounds very interesting
A happy bunny if I ever saw one. Well done to the chef, bang on flavours and presentation. Thanks Gary. Keep them coming.😃
Very happy bunny indeed and thank you
Running-in for the start is a win.
🤣
Thanks for another great video. If you fancy some curries come up to Leicester. Paddy's Marten Inn (a few celeb chefs rate it) for your classic curry (my advice, order slightly milder than you normally order) and then Kayal for some South Indian nirvana. You won't regret either.
That’s an amazing recommendation Chris thank you
i have only ever had perfection tandoor prawns twice in my life and that was eons ago. takes massive skill to get the balance between a char on the outside yet keeping the inside succulent. speaks volumes for the chef. cheers gary
I agree completely Steve it’s definitely not easy..just wanted more lol 😂
great video Gary the food looks amazing
Thanks so much Jen
Wow that looks out of this world good! Me and my good lady were wondering what food to have friday night and now i have indian food cravings lol
You know what to do Stewart 😂👍🏼
That’s kind to say Janet I do try to do different dishes to make it more interesting 👌x
It certainly was and thank you for the information
@@GaryEats ypu're very welcome.
Food looked great Gary, would love to try those dishes. I know you love a bowl harking back to the shepherds pie lol
It was excellent. I'm glad you remembered as I really disliked that bowl there lol
Another excellent review Gary. Everytime I watch your vids makes me hungry. One of my favourite food is Indian.
Thanks Nick and me too, join me for a curry soon lol
Eating out is expensive wherever you go these days and is an infrequent treat for most, so it's so important for the meal to be exceptional. The food looks delicious, I do like Indian food ( and Chinese, Italian etc 😁 )
Spot on David
Where are you located Gary? I'm in Tunbridge Wells, was strange hearing it said in your video!
About 15/20 mins away Josh!
Another great review. I think something that's worth pointing out, is that the filming is improving with every video - so kudos to the cameraman!
That’s very kind to say as sometimes it’s very difficult to film
