- Picadillo (literally translated as "finely chopped") is a basic component of any number of other Puerto Rican recipes. This seasoned, ground beef is incorporated into things like Pastelon de Maduro, Pastelillos, Pasteles, and any other number of typical dishes. It incorporates all the great Puerto Rican flavors--sofrito, achiote, adobo--and forms the perfect base upon which to build your perfect Puerto Rican meal.

I love the jacket and the spoon is a great additional touch! 🥰
Thank you!! 😊
It is wonderful to see how familiar yet see some differences we have in making many of these dishes. My parents were from PR and I was born here in the states 60 years ago. I learned from my parents how to make many of the dishes that you make and to this day, I make PR dishes which I call my comfort food.
For Picadillo, I will sometimes add some diced potatoes and add water and use tomato past to make a sauce sauce and serve it with white rice. It was my Mom's way of stretching the meat and making a more filling meal. That is what is so wonderful about our food. It is adaptable and flavorful and will always appeal to so many people. I am proud that our food not only provides sustenance and nutrition but also acts to introduce our culture and history through food and cooking and the joy it gives us to cook and share our food with everyone. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing. It is truly a wonderful thing about our culture!
@@JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen Can you tell me the name of the cheese that goes with a nice piece of Guava. Growing up in nY, my parents would get a box of Guava that has the jelly running down the middle and then they would pair it with this white cheese that they get from the local bodega. The cheese is in a square block, sits in this milky/watery bath and it is a bit salty and complements the guava. I long for that taste again. It was like having a special dessert. If you know the name of this cheese, please share it with me. Thank you.
@@jimdee1599 Oh yeah, such a delicious treat!! Growing up in PR we called it "Queso del Pais" and the brand we usually bought was "Indulac"--although as the name suggests, it was commonly made at home by people. Another really cool feature of the cheese is that you could fry it without it melting, so that was also a tasty way we enjoyed it.
@@JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen I am trying to fine it online so I can get it delivered. OMG what a nice treat during such hard times.
@@jimdee1599 Good luck, hope you can find it!
This is so good with white rice
Oh yes!! MMM....
Digging the chef jacket. That spoon pocket is a great idea!! Thanks for sharing

Quality Ingredients treated right! You look great Jeff! I really appreciate the way you explain simply how to think about cooking. There really is something to be said about making quality content with great video editing. Great food, great content! Keep doing what you do! You guys are awesome!
Thank you so much!!!
I love the chief jacket. Makes you look professional. Wear it proudly. I just finished making your sofrito. Next is the adobo and finally the picadillo. You and Jo have inspired me. Being in Sacramento, California, I can’t find all the ingredients. I made 16 snack bags of sofrito today since it’s Labor Day. I been watching your videos and I like them all. Thank for sharing.
You are so welcome!! We are so happy that you have enjoyed the videos!!
Aaáaaaaaaaaaaaáp McQueen rayo McQueen de rayo McQueen
I add cumin and roasted coriander to mine. My family loves this as burritos with black beans and rice and cojito cheese. Picadillo is a staple in my house.
Sounds delicious!!
I like this channel. My parents are from Puerto Rico and I've inherited the language, culture and food. In fact today I am making alcapurrias. Enjoy your weekend from Massachusetts.

Eso también se conoce como relleno para pasteles.
can you freeze it
Yes, you can freeze it and then use again later.
Should you add water?
You can add a bit if you think it’s necessary
I've seen raisins in the PR version of picadillo. Am I wrong?
Definitely not wrong! Plenty of people like them and add them to picadillo (and lots of other dishes), although we aren't generally among those 🤣🤣
@@JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen so if I was to do that add at the end? Last 5 min?
Yeah, that should work fine! The more you cook them the softer the will get, so a little bit of just how you like them.
@@JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen brilliant love the show pal thanks
😊
I want to make this but I swear I had it somewhere with raisins in it which I loved…is that a thing? Lol
The cuban version has raisins in it😊
