Thanks. The whole “turn off “ is on thing is funny!

I've had my first 'dress rehearsal' with a piano pupil tonight and we explored these settings.
We found that the piano of course sounds better with the original sound turned ON ie. enabled....ie. bypassing all Zoom's filtering....BUT when we started talking during that setting it wasn't as good, in fact it was more awkward (echoing, cutting out, artefacts) than when the original sound was OFF.
What we don't want to do is toggle on (play), toggle off (talk) toggle on (play), that would be a drag....so as it's more important in my view to have smoother speech and communication between myself and a remote pupil especially when we have to be even more concise/precise in these circumstances, surmised that maybe ultimately it was best to make do with the affected piano sound and keep the original sound OFF ie. disabled.
Am I the only teacher in the world considering this alternative?? I feel like a maverick!!!
Incidentally I'm GLAD to see that we're not the only ones going "errrr so it says turn off original sound, so that means errrr" etc.

Right, original sound definitely has it's advantages and disadvantages! Was your pupil's dress rehearsal in a space with lots of reverb? I'm wondering if that contributed to the sound issues during talking...? I do wish Zoom would show a switch or button or something to make it more clear (visually) if the original sound setting is currently on or off. Although the mind game is kind fun too, lol =)

Reök Academy I teach privately in people's homes so each of us were in as softly furnished a music setting as can be. So reverb surely wasn't an issue. Thanks for responding....I personally think just when the lockdown is over, Zoom will release a Zoom For Music Teaching app where all of this will be resolved. By then hopefully I'll be back teaching everyone in the flesh!!
I hate the "mind game". No fun for me! I don't thrive on chaos like some teachers. I like smooth, easeful communication with cups of tea and getting good stuff done. Anyway, any further thoughts on how to drive this 'on/off' battle in a lesson would be much appreciated!! Thanks.
