Kirby has A LOT of Deluxe titles: Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe Kirby Fighters Deluxe Dedede Drum Dash Deluxe Team Kirby Clash Deluxe Kirby Triple Deluxe
@@Nope2479 Kirby Triple was for MS-DOS, It was developed by The Software Toolworks after they made Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machine. The game was so poorly received, you dont even see footage of the game online, but I recall seeing a grotesque spider enemy kinda like Taranza in Triple Deluxe.
But to be fair, in some games like Wii or 7, you could carry one item and then get another at your disposal, soo it wasn't anything special, what would've good tho, is if you could carry one item, and have 2 at your disposal, and that would just be peak, but MK8DX is the same game that can make you have two coins on both of your slots in first place when your very far from everyone, soo there's that..
I think kirby shouldve got an s. The graphics overhaul was great, a whole new campaign with unique mechanics, and they curated and made new minigames to make this one of the best extra kirby modes and one of the best party games on Switch, even having slight online components making this technically online multiplayer as well. Its such a bang for your buck title that adds soo much meaningful stuff
I really dislike when people call Return to Dreamland “a new super mario like Kirby game” when it’s far from it. When it came out it added so much to Kirby in terms of aesthetic, controls, and story that the games after heavily leaned on for their structure. Now it looks more generic because other games did more with that format but when it did come out it was revolutionary.
Ehhh Not realy, I'd say the aesthetic is a lor more normal than the average Kirby game The backgrounds are amazingly done, but it still plays out the grassland, desert/pyramid, beach/sea, ice and volcano worlds super straight without real deviation levels within each world I think it's a fair assessmemt that despite the amazingly done backgrounds, the playable levels themselves are kinda just okay but not super impressive (compared to something like Kirby 64, where it'll have a desert or ice world, but only like 1 or 2 levels out of the four it has will actually be set in their respective trope)
100%. I can understand why people draw the comparisons because while there is little to change in the core gameplay loop save for the gimmicks (if it isn't broken, don't fix it), each iteration of Sakurai's formula put through Kumazaki's lense offers a more polished take on it each time, resulting in differences whether it be presentation or otherwise.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe adds so much to the game: to mention some things I haven't seen the comments mention, there's more detailed pause screen lore for the Kirby lore aficionados out there, the Extra Mode was made more difficult with fewer/weaker healing items throughout the adventure, and Merry Magoland's challenges unlock a ton of masks based on characters throughout the series for some fanservice, including some pretty deep cuts (they have Rick the Hamster's girlfriend, Pick, from Dream Land 3 represented for crying out loud). The Magolor Epilogue, while not being story-heavy, also considerably fleshes out Magolor's character in a number of ways, and it makes the state of his character in games after Return to Dream Land feel more natural. The entire package makes me feel crazy lucky to be a Kirby fan. It's clear as day how much love was put into it. Absolute S-Tier rerelease in my opinion.
Jon clearly hasn't seen the Wii version of Kirby's Return to Dream Land in a while, the Deluxe version looks very different and not like Wii version but with a cel-shading filter
It is a pretty major glowup, but it is also fairly clearly not rebuilt from scratch and is built off the original models - which is why I find it funny it was officially referred to as a remake and yet Metroid Prime Remastered, which essentially redid everything other than animations, is considered a remaster. But it's fine. Just wish they'd included the Dream Collection New Challenge Stages too to make the package even better
@@PikaPhantomVGMetroid Prime remastered is a remaster because it was built off of the original game. It uses updated, or sometimes completely new assets, but it's still the same game. Return to Dream Land Deluxe, however, is a remake, because it was completely remade from the ground up.
@Snsy Return to Dream Land Deluxe wasn't remade from the ground up. Even if they rebuilt it in a new engine, the level geometry is clearly identical to the original game
Cap your honor; Return to Dreamland Deluxe belongs in the S tier just for how much new content they added. New visual style, redone cutscenes, QOL improvements, A new mode that changes the formula a bit with Magolor, and 10 remade mini games with a ton of challenges for the anniversary (OG had 2). It basically has its one built in Kirby party mode. I think this game warranted the $60 price with all the new stuff added and should get a lil more credit for how much effort went into this product. Thanks for listening to my TED talk
Comparing RTDL to NSMBW feels a bit unfair since Kirby was definitely a far more original game, but that’s also just my opinion RTDL is more popular with Kirby fans than NSMBW is with Mario fans
I hope Yoshi's Woolly World gets the Deluxe treatment for Switch with a new carnival world, eight new levels, new Yoshis to unlock in the base game, & new Amiibo Yoshis like Pirhana Plant Yoshi, King K. Rool Yoshi, & Byleth Yoshi! I will gladly pay top dollar for a Deluxe Switch port of Yoshi's Woolly World!
From a modern perspective, docking one game for dlc and not another doesn't make sense since at the end of the day, you're doing the same thing for either game, paying more for more content
17:15 I actually used the MKTV RUclips feature to record a clip of Rosalina slow-mo crashing out on her motorcycle which I then edited to have the hit song "Wiggle Wiggle" in the background. It was the fourth video I ever uploaded to RUclips, it had well over 500K views and then it got hit with a copyright strike about 7 years ago. :(
SUPER MARIO BROS DELUXE FOR THE GAME BOY COLOR MY BELOVED MY CHILDHOOD. EDIT: BRANDON KNOWS. There's extra stuff too, like you can go to the left of the screen a little bit, Luigi's color palette is better, water and lava is animated, Peach gives a kiss to Mario at the end, you can unlock The Lost Levels too...
This was also my version of. Super Mario Bros. and still the definitive version for me personally. It was so weird for me going back to the NES version afterwards, expecting it to be like Deluxe lol.
glad to see people defending kirby's return to dream land deluxe honor in here. i will chime in too. the game has a LOT of new content and the main game got a lot of quality of life improvements on top of new visual style that looks absolutely gorgeous. imo very much an S-tier release even if you are more cold towards the original game.
I’d personally put Kirby in S tier, because beyond anything else, it revitalized my appreciation for that game. I was kinda unimpressed with Return to Dream Land after playing it for some time on Wii, since it just felt kinda standard by the time of Robobot and slightly Triple Deluxe, the visuals didn’t super hold up for me, and the game just was less exciting over time. But replaying it in the Deluxe port, it looked way better, the game felt like a breath of fresh air after Star Allies (which I enjoyed, but I will acknowledge was not the best Kirby), and the additions of the Magalor mode and the Merry Magoland minigame area all made it feel like a really wonderful package. But I also am speaking from the perspective of appreciating what the game did for my opinion on it. Also, I’d put New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe in C. Still would consider it the weakest both as a Deluxe game and on its own merits compared to the other games, but meh, it was fine enough when I got it on Switch.
PMD's future isn't the brightest anyways. I think there was something floating around from the team encouraging PMD fans to buy the latest Shiren the Wanderer if they wanted to see PMD return? Shiren actually reviewed very well, though, so hopefully a new PMD would follow in its footsteps enough to break out of the review rut the series has been stuck in.
Mario U DX has some positive changes: Propeller Mushroom and Penguin Suit were originally locked to the special worlds in the Wii U version, but can now be collected throughout the main game, and you can play as any character you want in single player (minus Mario in Luigi U, despite early trailers featuring him in that game). However, it's mostly a downgrade. Being stuck with an easy mode character in 4-player, The Super Crown spawning throughout the game and being literally useless for anyone besides Toadette and the original controls being locked behind a button code have to be the worst changes.
Return to Dreamland Deluxe is pretty good...my favorite thing, besides the new mode, is the True arena was overhauled. So glad Magalor Soul got an upgrade there, he was kinda underwhelming and quite forgettable on the original since you already fought him in the second mode, and he had absolutely no changes at all in the True Arena. In Deluxe's True Arena though, you were basically fighting Magalor Soul EX. (I also like how during phase 2 the normal eyes vanish completely and he just looks like one giant angry eye for the rest of the battle. lol)
Great video! Personally I'd put LADX as an S-tier-- it's a great colorization! I think it's easy to gloss over how much effort goes in to making really great colorization of previously monochrome games. Also, shoutouts to the modern GBC colorization scene doing great work with games like Mega Man World 1-5, Samus Returns and Kirby!
@ They said in the video that it wasn’t about expanded versions of games, it was simply about things with “Deluxe” or “DX” in the title, like the Wii U Deluxe Package. They said themselves that they were struggling for things to put in the list, too. Like other comments have said, games like Kirby Triple Deluxe could’ve fit in as well.
24:00 - Sorry Jon, you're wrong here. The DX cart can actually tell if you're playing it on a regular Gameboy/Gameboy Pocket, and the two guards at the front of the dungeon won't let you in unless you're playing it on the Gameboy Color onwards. They'll let you guess what colour each guard is, but they'll always say you guessed wrong.
I’m sure when they say “deluxe” they mean rereleases or remakes/remasters of existing games. TDX is an original game as opposed to being a remaster lol
The Wii U deluxe promotion was also crazy because you got the 10% coins back even for free games from Club Nintendo. I didn't but a lot of games digitally and still got a lot of money back just from that. That was an insane good deal, 20%.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is amazing imo. Not quite my favorite Kirby game but it's absolutely in the Top 10 and not very far from my Top 5. While the main game wasn't changed all that much mechanically, there's still a number of small things here and there like every boss getting a description rather than a select few (including the Sphere Doomers), new tracks for the HAL Rooms and in the Mid Boss tower's secret harder path, a 3rd HAL Room, and the new Abilities as well as new moves that didn't exist in the original RtDL like Sword's Sky Energy Sword and Whirlwind Slash. Plus, the postgame got so drastically improved between the new Epilogue and changes to Extra Mode (the devs changed enemy spawns, gave text to all the new bosses like with the Story Mode, and greatly decreased the amount of healing items, which made it go from the 2nd weakest traditional Extra Mode only beating Squeak Squad's to the second best behind Dream Land 1's) and True Arena (which got all the new bosses in the Epilogue and also got a fully unique Soul boss, making it go from the 2nd or 3rd weakest True Arena only beating Super Star Ultra's and maaaybe Planet Robobot's to one of my favorites). In fact, the postgame as a whole went from the weakest in the mainline series since Kumazaki took over as director to the 2nd or 3rd best behind Star Allies' and maybe Forgotten Land's.
Are you talking about the spin in NSMBU? Yeah, I checked the information they had on it and a lot of it was wrong. I owned both games, and also double checked by looking up speed comparisons and I don't know what the heck they are talking about for a lot of it
@ From what I’ve seen, for NSMBU they were right about everything besides just that instead of swapping the spin to the jump button, they added it and had a button combination to turn it off.
I truly don't remember having to make the spin move from double tap A to the bumper in NSMBU Deluxe. Was that one time thing? Because I 100%'d that game twice and don't remember that being a thing unless I only did it one time and forgot.
This list is great. I'm gonna have to go back and play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon again. Also, how do you guys record both of you in high quality at the same time? Are you using OBS or something else?
31:01 I got the standard edition Wii U because I was young dumb and broke lol I should have bought the deluxe edition but I was only thinking “Well, I have a portable HD to attach so I don’t need to spend the extra $50” I didn’t realize how in the minority I was and I wish I’d kept that white one seeing as they’re rare now lol
Ash should be included for this kind of discussion for mostly one reason. He's notorious for hating on the "New" naming fixation that Nintendo had with their games and hardware. Mostly because them calling the Nintendo 3DS to "New" Nintendo 3DS
It's a massive shame that Pikmin 3 Deluxe forces all of the challenge modes into the new Normal (Easy) difficulty. It's great that story mode can still be returned to the original's - now labelled Hard - but the challenge levels are actively worse than the original. It's not truly a definitive version of the game.
I think Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe is a really good Kirby Game because this game is based around Magolor because you have two modes for him which is Magolor Epilogue and Merry Magoland and both of them are really good the Story Mode looks good, the Extra Mode looks good same with Story Mode, and both Arenas are very challenging with all the bosses you have to fight including the ones in Magolor Epilogue but their are two things I don't like about this so I'm not a fan of the outlines for the characters because I'm use to the ones from the original so it would be nice if they did that then adding outlines to the characters and I'm not a fan of King Dedede's design because he looks like a freakin Club Penguin design and I just don't like it so I hope in the next Kirby game they change it like maybe changing it to his Star Allies instead of that Club Penguin design of him. And one more thing when I saw al the masks for all the characters I thought they would you know make masks of Tiff, Tuff, and Escargoon since they are part of the Kirby series like that's kinda sad and confusing. But yeah I still need to beat Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe 100% this year before we move on to the next Kirby Game.
Kirby has A LOT of Deluxe titles:
Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe
Kirby Fighters Deluxe

Nintendo World Championships deluxe set
&
NES deluxe set (comes with rob the robot)
How did they forget that mario dx also included the lost levels and acheivements
Hey, NSMBUDX deserves some credit for Peachette and the Super Crown giving us weeks of interesting Bowsette and Super Crowned character art.
You're right, it should've been in F tier because of that 😛
Does DX in Link's Awakening DX mean "Deluxe" or "Director's Cut"? D = Director, X is like 2 slashes or a cut.
With switch life almost over, you should really do like remake games ranked
Its driving me crazy, what is the music while they are discussing Mario Kary 8 Deluxe from?? I know it but I am blanking, thanks!!
I'm pretty sure that all instances of "DX" in Japan are pronounced "deluxe", never "Dee Ex". It's just meant as a stylish way to write it.
Someone correct me: aren’t the Mario & Luigi remakes on 3DS called DX in other regions.
And by "other regions" you mean just Japan.
Yeah, "just" the original source of the games.
Just remembered Smash Bros Melee was called "Dairantou Smash Bros DX" in Japan ... hmm... nah, doesn't count lol
My favorite is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe!
You missed several Nintendo deluxe games : Super Smash Bros Deluxe and ZELDA MUSOU HYRULE ALL STARS DX
Black Wii Us are known to be more prone to hardware failure over time, so in a way, the white Wii U might be deluxier in the long-run
Super Smash bros melee, known in Japan as 大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズDX is very much missing as THE S tier.
Thumbnail on point? Check.
Fantastic ranking discussion? Check.
Good Vibes? Check 😎
I uploaded my Mario Kart Wii U Mario Kart TV to youtube back in the days. 😂
The proof is on my channel.
Also thanks for putting Mystery Dungeon in S.
Anyone else get this channel and NintendoLife mixed up with videos like this? 😛
I thought DX meant Director cut.
Skyward Sword music in the background
Rank the "new" series next
Ash should be included for this kind of discussion for mostly one reason. He's notorious for hating on the "New" naming fixation that Nintendo had with their games and hardware. Mostly because them calling the Nintendo 3DS to "New" Nintendo 3DS
New Pokemon Snap clears
No mention of Peachette 😔
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is still my favorite.
Doesn't DX mean Director's Cut, not Deluxe?
It's pretty sad that SMB DX isn't on GB NSO yet.
I completely skipped the WiiU, and i have the feeling i made the correct decision 👀
Wish Nintendo port kirby planet robobot, triple deluxe and epic yarn for switch.. that would be so deluxe awesome...
Kirby’s an S
NSMBU Deluxe deserves to be at the bottom for Peachette alone.
GVG Nintendo Time
5:01 m-m-massive? You know what else is MASSIVE?
Sony didn't buy them. When was this recorded???
But yeah I still need to beat Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe 100% this year before we move on to the next Kirby Game.
change the thumbnail to yellow kirby and yellow pikmin
Isnt a Smash game called Deluxe in Japan?
Kirby Triple Deluxe is great.
This video is so deluxe
