Sounds of mama Africa. Very informative, didnt know calabash is also the base for the Koura. It was used as food/meat container/preserver, water bottle, and even as spear shield in wars.
Great video. I was just given a calabash by a friend who plays African percussion, it's big like 16 inches and it's the whole gourd, so It's like playing a big wooden ball. It's a beautiful thing and it sounds wonderful. What a very sweet gift. I tuned in to see if I could learn some tricks from you. Fun stuff.
Aww sweet from your friend. That was a nice gesture from him. Thank you for joining the channel. Please if you have any suggestions of short videos I would be happy to make more videos. By the way I think you are my 500th subscriber:). Thanks for the support

Hey what’s the tapping instrument used towards the end?
Hie great sounds, where can I get one?
I brought mine from Africa but on ETSY I saw few of them for sale. I’m not sure about the quality tho.
Where can I buy a calabash?
You can check on ETSY . I brought mine from Africa so I don’t really know the quality of the calabash they sell here
Motherland Music in the USA sells Calabash gourds . I got a nice 18" Calabash from them .
Thanks for the tutorial. What kind of mic is that one you use on the calabash?
Glad you enjoyed the video. In this video I used the shure mv88+ video kit. It’s perfect for home videos.
Have you mic’s one from the inside for playing on stage. If so, what did you use? Thanks for the video!
For home videos I only use my Shure MV88+. On stage they use a dynamic mic under and another on top to get both high and low bass sound
Please make some step by step videos.
Absolutely. Will be glad to teach more about this instrument
Awesome sound! What size of Calabash would you recommend? Thanks!
My calabash is about 18” diameter. That sounds pretty good and is also sturdy
