    Sounds of mama Africa. Very informative, didnt know calabash is also the base for the Koura. It was used as food/meat container/preserver, water bottle, and even as spear shield in wars.

    Great video. I was just given a calabash by a friend who plays African percussion, it's big like 16 inches and it's the whole gourd, so It's like playing a big wooden ball. It's a beautiful thing and it sounds wonderful. What a very sweet gift. I tuned in to see if I could learn some tricks from you. Fun stuff.

      I brought mine from Africa but on ETSY I saw few of them for sale. I’m not sure about the quality tho.

      You can check on ETSY . I brought mine from Africa so I don’t really know the quality of the calabash they sell here

      Motherland Music in the USA sells Calabash gourds . I got a nice 18" Calabash from them .

      Glad you enjoyed the video. In this video I used the shure mv88+ video kit. It’s perfect for home videos.

    Have you mic’s one from the inside for playing on stage. If so, what did you use? Thanks for the video!

      For home videos I only use my Shure MV88+. On stage they use a dynamic mic under and another on top to get both high and low bass sound

      My calabash is about 18” diameter. That sounds pretty good and is also sturdy
