Hi Rick. My name is Jeff. And I am a horse ranch hand. First time doing this. Never had interest in horses before. But now I can't stay away from them. Great video that's why I'm here talking with you. We got a horse named Z. She's big and black and she's exactly like the one on your video. She's been here for a year. And I've been here for a year. I have no problems with any of the other horses. But this one. She's been pushing me around from day one. It's never any fun bringing her in. at night or taken her out in the morning. I've tried everything. And then one day my boss said. I'm going to have to teach you how to push horses. Yes yes I said. Thanks I know I'll live a little bit longer now. She showed me a technique and it worked quite well. But I haven't had a chance to bring her in. Until today. I saw your video this morning. And I knew I had to be like that little White horse. Which was a lot like what my boss was teaching me. When I went out to get her today. She was there at the gate. Waiting to push me. I pushed her back with the gate. And then she cooperated. I got her halter on. Meanwhile while all this is going on. There's another horse in the pasture running around because I'm taken away his buddy. I thought as I was locking the gate. I have to be like that little White horse. Z tried to get in front of me. And I took my lungh wip. And tap her front legs. And she went back. I made her stop. And we stood there a minute. And then I walked about 50 feet. Made her stop and go back. And I did not have to tab her at all. I did that six or seven more times. Before I got her in her stall. It was the best day ever. With. Z I'll be looking forward to bring her and tomorrow night. I'm just going to like that little white horse all the time. Thanks Rick. Jeff the ranch hand. PS. I did finally get a horse of my own. And his name is Devin. I can finally now push him around. Is he's been pushing me to. He's turned out to be a great horse.
As someone who's never owned a horse but always loved them, it's fascinating to watch them just being horses. Thank you Rick, always great learning from you!
Hi thanks for reviewing my video. Black horse is a 3 year old friesian stallion and spotty pony is 5. Spotty pony rather riggy. Heloves to dominate the friesian stealing food ect. My horses are out 24/7 in decent sized fields. Best way to keep them.
Two-Thumbs-up Holly,,,keep doing what you're doing and your horses will have a great life. If I could wish for one thing , it would be to have more land so my horses could have more space to just be horses.
@@ThinkLikeAHorse Thank you. I do hope there is no hate mail. I try and keep mine as natural as possible. You don’t need a dust storm to work with a horse. Lol. I’m dying of laughter... glad I’m not drinking coffee. Thanks. You made my night.
That was fun to watch! Smart little pony 😄 Frisians are known for being very calm, goodnatured fellows though. Even the stallions are remarkably easy to handle. It’s part of the breeding concept. They have extremely strict rules about which stallions get accepted as breeders...lots of tests...some of them pertaining to behavior. A colt that’s aggressive or prone to acting up just won’t make it...that’s why pretty much all Frisians look and move breathtakingly beautiful and have such a friendly demeanor. It’s the result of a very careful and extremely selective breeding process. Would love to know, if that lack of aggressiveness means, they are typically low in the pecking order when kept with other horses. They just don’t like to fight, I think.
I learn so much from your videos , I wasnt raised around horses but a lot of it is common sense . Your herd behavoir is spot on and almost every time a horse acts up there are major "tells" but if you arent looking for them you will miss them
Our little shetland pony has my 3 geldings, 16 and 17 hands, buffaloed big time, does a fake lunge at them and they get back, kinda cute. Great lesson, xo
I really get this. My first horse did more to train my second horse than I did. What made that real special with hindsight (a feeling I've had many times over 18 years) is that I see his protection of me. Being a female of our species Ì want to think of it as love and loyalty (though I believe it is part of it in somehow). I have come to realise he was protecting his resources of water, food, shelter, itch scratcher etc., which is good enough for me!! If my second horse, who was horribly abused and human aggressive had been my first, I doubt either of us would be here. He is a gentle, naughty, playful and endlessly curious light in my life now. I miss my main man, our teacher, our amigo, the wise Amigo, but I feel him in the wind and see him in the waves in the water. His legacy lives on in my heart and in the way the wee man (16'3hh compared to Amigo's 17hh) has conducted himself in a new environment and a large herd. Thanks Rick. You inspire me to stand my ground in this new place. I know what I know through my own experience.....but I also know I have much to learn. Carrots and scratches for Mr. T and Buddy from Scotland. Touay I did enjoy the movie. I've had the blues for a few weeks. The movie was Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Funeral (the title was something like that) and it had an aggressive white cop vs black driver scene. If the while male police acting wasn't so over the top it might have made the statement it was trying to (Castile killed by police in MN, USA maybe) but came out looking like a spoof. Plenty of funny parts. Have a wonderful day!

It always makes me laugh how size means nothing. I used to be at a farm where the little pony was boss-man and to watch him run the draft horses off was hilarious, just like these 2. That black horse is gorgeous.
I just wanted to write & let you know how much I appreciate you making these videos . It’s hard to find people who believe in treating horses like .....horses . Really enjoyed this video Rick. I don't have any horses, but since I began following TLAC, and then TLAH, I can't wait to see the next horse video. I watch, I listen, and I learn. People could learn a lot about how to behave if they watched and understood horse behavior and interaction. Of course my favorite guys to watch are Mr. T, and Buddy.
Edit to add: remember, we are just humans IMITATING horse behavior, a horse is a horse doing a natural behavior and horses recognize that....Although its good to take pointers, we need to remember we are still humans and the horse recognizes us as such. I have seen trainers hit their horses and use stuff like this as an excuse. A great horse behaviorist and trainer once said "when a horse kicks at another horse, its a horse kicking at another horse and the know when to stop....when a human HITS or whips a horse, its a human doing it to a horse and it is abuse." The horse wont see you as another horse, it will see you as a human, another species abusing it....make no mistake they dont see us as horses and part of the herd as other horses dont get on top of the horse and start riding it....so, no, you shouldnt wallup your horse to get it to listen because a herd leader does it. Violence in the horse world is super rare....most communication is subtle such as ear pinning, nose wrinkling, and body position. Hope my explanation made sense.
@@TheBakingSlave it does. Intention matters. If you're angry and swing a rope at your horse, whether or not you touch them, that rope is a weapon. If you pat your horse lovingly, it can still be viewed as violent, but they will see in your body language and intent that it is loving or fun. I'm not saying I'm going to go out and start kicking horses, but i will demand submission like the mini did, not because i have to be big and tough and aggressive, but because i am the one that can keep us, as a team, safe. Just like that mini was saying. 'Im older than you, wiser than you, and dominant over you. Let's keep it that way so we both can survive'
Super video. Feisty little squirt flexing his cute muscles. Great lesson that size is no excuse for allowing my horse to dominate me. Attitude is everything! Watching this till it sinks in. Thank you for posting this.
Yaaas! I watched this behavior before with a little horse (he was deemed "aggressive" by a coven of barn witches) and you've nailed it Rick! I'm gonna show them this video in hopes the coven will back the hell off him!
Yes! I have 3 friends that raise them. We all raised Arabians for 45 years. They added Friesians to their herds. I love them ( not as much as my Arabs lol) they are very good natured. The only thing I might disagree with Rick is “he was bowing up”. That’s just the way they move all the time. They are so fun to watch. They can really take some hits. This is a good video.
What an excellent lesson in horse communication. When I was young, I worked for a woman who did trail riding. My first day on the job she asked me to go to the paddock and bring in and saddle a horse named Princess. (Yes, she had a halter on, and I was on!y 14 at the time, still a bit naive). I reached out to catch her, and she immediately grabbed my forearm and gave me a good nip (drew blood). I kept my hold on the halter and gave her a !ight (very light) swat on her neck. She looked like a kid who had snuck into the cookie jar and got caught, and I never had a problem with her again. That's about the time I started in believing in no bit riding and no shoes. My cousin is a few years older than me and is a vet; she taught me about no shoes, stalls, etc. Great ro!e model for me! Keep up the good work my friend. Just passed a law that prohibits leaving a pet out in the cold for more than 20 mins. I would love to see a law abolishing bits, spurs and whips. Wonder if it will happen?

This a great training (for humans) video Rick. Your translation of horse is perfect. This would be a great stand alone lesson in understanding horse behavior.

Rick, know this.Just in case it counts! Our family, loves y’all! Period! ! Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year! Oh, and Mokie, we love you too!
It also doesn't help that friesians tend to be rather cocky. XD Not as much as arabians and their crossbreds, but friesians tend to have a friendly and somewhat calm cocky-ness to them. Especially the bowing of the neck and nuzzling the other seems to be a thing for them. Younger ones more so than older ones, of course. That's part of their charm tho.
Hi Rick, that black horse looks like a Friesian, but what ever they are both gorgeous, thank you for telling us what's going on, big hugs to you and your gorgeous boys xxxxx
We had 4 in our herd. 26 year old gelding, 2 15 year old mares and a 9 year old mare. The gelding was on top of everyone. We added a 4 year old mare and she dominates everyone except the 8 year old mare which I found interesting. I thought the old gelding would not let a 4 year old baby mare move him off his food.
Our new 12h pony does this to our big 16h gelding. Funny introducing them. He just kept stretching his neck in his face while the gelding just whined and "tried" to be the boss. Pony said, nah man, ain't happening! Spring is here Rick, we better get some pony riding videos soon!
tina powell --It’s so much fun to watch it happen, that it’s all attitude. I can’t help but wonder if the black horse has not been around a herd at all.

AAAH! I've searched the net for EVER trying to understand why lead horse chased my 3yr old who spooked on 4th of July. Ugh!! Listening to "experience " horse people is just stupid on my part if I do. Lead horse never cut his driveline in this senerio. He just chased him. I wasn't there to witness what was happening my daddy had recently passed away. The person watching thought.....ugh too many words. Thank u!! Light bulb just turned on in my head! Never listen to dog trainers who tell u they know horses Jeez i fell stupid lol!!
Haha the little one's got some moves! I totally agree Rick, it's completely normal but to a human eye, it seems scary... And some people would probably separate them when there's no need for that... And if any of you is interested in some horse behavior, I got a few videos on my chanel ;)
We have a heard of 36 horses and Harley is 1 of them. When he came the little miniature ponies would corner him. He’s grown in confidence and has moved up but he still pushes everyone getting in their space and never listens to horse ques. His owner doesn’t correct him when he’s acting up and has trained him and the old owner did the same so he’s now a very annoying horse and really likes to be in your space I don’t let him I always tell him to back off and it’s so funny the look on his face😂. We see this behavior in the video with our horses all the time cause we keep them in large pens outside and we see this behavior every time we run them they kick and jump and rear and bite it’s fun to watch
Never get tired of learning about horses and their behavior. Nice video

I'm learning alot from your videos, thank you Rick.....l watch my horses sometimes and laugh. Everything you say in this video is so good and relatable, and l really see the communication between my horses. You are great!😊
Thanks for sharing, Rick! I love learning about horse behavior from your videos! :D
I would have just chalked this all up to play. I really enjoy watching a play by play cuz there's so much more to it than just playing. I always learn a lot from these kinds of videos.
That little Ap is probably older and has been in this pasture longer than the Fress
Great lesson Rick
That Friesian is gorgeous!!
Good video. Very entertaining and educational. I appreciate how you explain what is going on.
Just being horses great video cute horses. Just love your sense of humour!
Good to see you again. No argument from here. Little guy knows what he's doing. Lol
Old Asian saying: smaller pepper is hotter.
catsspat 🤣🤣🤣 Good one!
This a great training (for humans) video Rick. Your translation of horse is perfect. This would be a great stand alone lesson in understanding horse behavior.
I want to take lessons from that little spotted pony.
You nailed it!! That mini horse is the boss. The other one is beautiful. Looks like a Morgan.
Great-looking horses and a classic interaction. Nice vid!
I don't have horses and never will, just not my thing, but damn these horse videos are so stinking interesting I really look forward to them! BuddyandMrTyou'regoodboysandMokie-cat too!
Horses being horses. No harm done. The spotted horse is debunking the "large" and in charge" saying. Spotted horse is spunky and smart. Great Clip.
A lot of the rehab work I do in the dog world comes from mentors that also understand the horse world.
Beautiful Fresian! Great video and explanation.
This explains how my 14.2 hand mare, Controls my 16.3 hand gelding!!!
Great Explanation, Rick! Thank you...and beautiful gentle Friesian...
Friesians have that natural bowing of the neck and the way he moves those legs--gorgeous animal. But this video shows that looks aren't everything. Good goin, little guy!
Rick, I love all your videos, and I don't even have a horse, but if I did, I would try to do right by the horse.
Don't try.............do.
@@gerrycoleman7290- I would do if I had a horse, and boy do I ever wish I had one. I would forget to eat, because I would be enjoying my horse too much.
@@cathybrown8617 And he would respect and trust you for being a fair confident leader.
@@gerrycoleman7290-what I wouldn't give to have a horse. A horse would be a better friend than most people. Wouldn't you agree? If you treat a horse fairly and kindly, you will have a friend for life, same as with any animal.
@@cathybrown8617 Horses are pure. No baggage. I certainly prefer their company to most people. Have you considered volunteering at a horse facility to get some horse time?
Super cute. Reminds me of a cute gray pony here that does similar dominance displays. Size certainly does not necessarily mean herd leadership.
Thank you Rick for taking the time post this for us . Yes it was a fun video and I know just what my plan is now , to move Bear’s Hindquarters. I will be the little White Horse . How easy breezy was this ! Laura ♥️ Bear 🐴🇺🇸
My old horse had some great times on the paddock with his chum but there was always that hierarchy between them. They were like Batman and Robin together.
Great clip and analysis. Your advice can apply to people and other animals too.
Rick, that is a great analysis of this situation and entertaining too.
The pony is ALWAYS the boss. :D
I found myself starting to give up on my 2-year old, this video with body movement might help, ill try tonight
Excellent narration! So interesting! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
I always found it interesting how the smaller animals are often leaders over the larger ones. This happens alot with dogs too.
Thank you Rick! Thank you for telling it like it
is, in the horse/ pecking order. Mr. T has earned his Legacy! Over and over again! But at the same point, Buddy, you’re just being a horse! Rick, know this.Just in case it counts! Our family, loves y’all! Period! ! Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year! Oh, and Mokie, we love you too!
Thank you for your content, I have learned a lot about horse behavior after watching your channel!
Bro, what a great lesson. Thank you, friend.
It also doesn't help that friesians tend to be rather cocky. XD
Not as much as arabians and their crossbreds, but friesians tend to have a friendly and somewhat calm cocky-ness to them. Especially the bowing of the neck and nuzzling the other seems to be a thing for them. Younger ones more so than older ones, of course. That's part of their charm tho.
These are the videos I watch to learn and impress my riding teacher.
Hi Rick, that black horse looks like a Friesian, but what ever they are both gorgeous, thank you for telling us what's going on, big hugs to you and your gorgeous boys xxxxx
He is bang on in what he is saying.
Never underestimate the power of the little horse! Lmaoo!
This was excellent!! I love 🐎 🐴 🐎...great breakdown very interesting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Rick, that was just sooo good.... interesting, and of course your videos are always fun, too!
Super cute! Commentary was fun. As always. ❤️
Yeah totally racist XD TOTALLY
Bruh, Im black, This isnt racist its education.
I love the little white spotted horse and his kicking so cute. Thought I was watching Mr T and Buddy.
My mini only gives to one of my horses. The others all give to her. She’s dominate and smaller than them all.
tina powell --It’s so much fun to watch it happen, that it’s all attitude. I can’t help but wonder if the black horse has not been around a herd at all.
Recall Rick's video on the rooster round penning a horse.
Thanks to you i know more about horses. Thanks ❤️❤️❤️🐴🐴
That is so cool to watch!!
Horses are so beautiful
I always knew being In the service myself that it was. The little guy you looked out for . In my case a Brit SAS. You could fight him for ever but it was difficult to stop him from kicking your butt . MJ
sas guys were all good guys..
Love it. Thank you for the explanation.
I like this video, could her the person filming have a lil chuckle at them. I love watching my boys interact like this, always puts a smile on my face 😁
Excellent explanation! Love this!!
6:13 Horse is doin' all his horsey stuff.
This was great! That young Frisian is stunning, but let’s face it, that little spotted pony is ZESTY! Smart little guy! ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent commentary 🐎
Haha the little one's got some moves! I totally agree Rick, it's completely normal but to a human eye, it seems scary... And some people would probably separate them when there's no need for that...
And if any of you is interested in some horse behavior, I got a few videos on my chanel ;)
That was a great example of horse behaviour. Thank’s for the share.
The black horse is gorgeous 😊 but not as pretty as Hollywood Buddy..lol
Great Vidja Rick I will watch with my 10 yr old nephew👍
I agree horses are pretty tuff with each other that black horse is beautiful do think it’s a Friesian
Just love this. The little one is definitely in charge. Both are adorable but little one is a cute little shit
Fascinating.
