So sorry 💔❤️🩹 didn’t know until now another great soul as gone upstairs, let’s go somewhere what a Motown legend in his own right god bless thank you for your music and inspiration, good bye my friend and praisebe with you 😪
This reminds me of my first holiday with my boyfriend in Newquay, Cornwall in the late sixties. We would go to a pub in the town every night and this song would be on the jukebox. I’m now 72 and just about to celebrate 50 wonderful years of marriage to that same guy.
I lived in Ilford, when I was 16 my girlfriend was Janet Marsh. This song reminds me of her. I'm 74 now and live in Australia but I still remember her fondly.
I can't speak for the girls but I'm certain no boy ever forgets his first girlfriend. I met an adorable girl on holiday in 1969 (we were both 17) after a week we both had to go home but I still have a lingering fondness and concern for her, even now !
Yes my stepmum passed away April 2019 of cancer ad this was her favourite RDT song. I play it hoping she can still hear it in heaven 🙏 miss you mum❤🌈❤🌈
Still a great memory jerker !! of the late 60's, especially me driving up from South Wales on the ' Heads of the Valley' road toward the midlands & on to the Manchester area on wet Friday nights, just to get home to my fiance. Played it threadbare along with 'There's a ghost in my house' , Great songs, bloody good artist, and fantastic memories of the 60's / early 70's. Where did they all go ?? LOL

I remember hearing this on a jukebox in a bowling alley where we spent many summer afternoons, and fell in love. It seemed to speak of all the pent up passion a 15 year old girl feels. Great memories.
Ronnie Damnitz - god no! But I sure wish I had the talent to come up with that tune. Btw tho totally unconnected can see the influence of this in Billy Oceans Red Light Spells Danger another cracking tune
Hi marc! When i mentioned writer i was referring to the script writer of tv comedies. Well you have good taste in music and im sure your talented as well! Take care marc
Agree with rene bosman on the mysterious bass rhytm, then those strange melody lines until the sudden cascade of rain and you were alone on the road in your car, desperately longing to see Jane, hopefully no police would notice you speeding, and did they, maybe they´d forgive you, after alll, you just gotta see Jane... I love this 47 years old song, one of those that still give me goose bumps...
This Canadian dude was great. Lyrics....Red light, green light, Speedin' trough the dark night, Drivin' trough the poundin' rain I gotta see Jane Windshield wiper splashin', Splashin', callin' out her name Just gotta see Jane I left her arms to find my way To find a place for me in the world outside I wasn't alive, I could not survive The frantic pace, the constant chase To win the race, turned my heart cold inside I gotta find what I left behind Red light, green light, Speedin' through the dark night, Drivin' through the poundin' rain, I gotta see Jane Freeway, byway, Earin' up the highway, Runnin' up a world insane Just gotta see Jane A town of steel that isn't real It could not feel what's in the heart of me I was so alone in a world of stone I missed her arms, that once held me That made me see, I was the lonely one But now and then I was runnin' scared And I could feel the touch of time Turnin' the wheel of life to yesterday When love and happiness were mine I gotta find that world of Jane and me Liked it used to be Oh, I gotta see Jane Her love for me I pushed aside Walked out alone To face a world turned cold Although I tried I could not survive The frantic pace, the constant chase To win the race, it's not a part of me I've gotta find what I left behind Oh, I gotta see Jane, I gotta see Jane
I was 15, a wonderful time for music. I couldn't understand why this wasn't even more popular than it was at the time, then two years later Indianna Wants Me. Love the understated orchestral section too.
I was 18 and serving my apprenticeship and my mate and I from work took the tranny with us everywhere and we sung our lungs out when this and Indiana wants me came on, funny thing is my wife was born in 66, and one of her favourite records is there’s a ghost in my house by r dean Taylor, enjoy the music and the memories
Such a fantastic song , Ardene Taylor is and was such a fabulous singer songwriter , love listening to all of his wonderful songs Thanks Frank Gissane Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪
Ghosts of visions in the mind boggling how one's in hands in hands fingers in each fingers holding hands that love was one's mine Jane Elizabeth Hannam from Baildon UK Yorkshire
Taylor deserved better than just legacy nostalgia among audiophiles. Although he had generous airplay of his catchy songs back in the day, for some reason his stuff never caught on.
Takes me back to my youth I loved this, sadly I can remember my youth when I listen to this but I can not go back to my youth sigh its a hard unfair life
Saw the title, but didn't really recognize it. The tune seemed vaguely familiar, but as soon as he sang "Red light.." it all came flooding back . . . "green light, driving through the dark night, oooh, I gotta see Jane" It's been years. Thanks for uploading this.
Not certain but I think he may also have had a hand in co writing standing in the shadows of love .I know that he wasn't always credited for his contribution.
It took time for a Canadian singer/songwriter to make it, as CKLW shockingly didn't play much Canadian recordings until a legislation was passed in 1970 to get more Canadian recording artists on the radio. CKLW at first resisted, but eventually gave in to pressures. Ironically, once it hit in 1971, "Gotta See Jane" was R.D.'s biggest hit Canada, even bigger than "Indiana Wants Me", which was his biggest U.S .hit.🍁🍁🍁🍁R.I.P. R. When I lived in northern Ohio I sometimes picked up station AM 740 in Toronto and heard this song from time to time. Later found a 45. Too bad it wasn't a US hit.
I just put the name of the song in, but never expected to find it - and in such a high quality! I played this single until I wore it out on my parents' monogram. I loved it as a young kid and still love it now. Thanks for uploading and sharing!
This song filmed on the Wrexham road reminds me of an ex colleague who moved to Wrexham. We nicknamed him Levi because dead on 501 he would drop his work.
There are not enough "thumbs up" here for this song

This Canadian dude was great. Lyrics....Red light, green light,
Speedin' trough the dark night,
Drivin' trough the poundin' rain
I gotta see Jane
Windshield wiper splashin',
Splashin', callin' out her name
Just gotta see Jane
I left her arms to find my way
To find a place for me in the world outside
I wasn't alive, I could not survive
The frantic pace, the constant chase
To win the race, turned my heart cold inside
I gotta find what I left behind
Red light, green light,
Speedin' through the dark night,
Drivin' through the poundin' rain,
I gotta see Jane
Freeway, byway,
Earin' up the highway,
Runnin' up a world insane
Just gotta see Jane
A town of steel that isn't real
It could not feel what's in the heart of me
I was so alone in a world of stone
I missed her arms, that once held me
That made me see, I was the lonely one
But now and then I was runnin' scared
And I could feel the touch of time
Turnin' the wheel of life to yesterday
When love and happiness were mine
I gotta find that world of Jane and me
Liked it used to be
Oh, I gotta see Jane
Her love for me I pushed aside
Walked out alone
To face a world turned cold
Although I tried I could not survive
The frantic pace, the constant chase
To win the race, it's not a part of me
I've gotta find what I left behind
Oh, I gotta see Jane, I gotta see Jane
