I adore this song. They don't write story sings like this anymore, at least not without profanity. A great one from a great decade (for 10 year old me ;) )
For many years, I was the only child in a house full of grown-ups. These songs became embedded in my mind. Or maybe I'm just an old soul. All the way from 🇳🇬
Barista Laura heard this song playin on my cassette deck back in about 2003 & loved it. reminded her of years ago. Laura is no longer with us. RIP Laura. We miss you and your smile.
Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there I wish I had you To talk to If a man ever needed dyin', he did No one had the right to say what he said about you And it's so cold and lonely here without you Out there the law's a-comin' I'm scared and so tired of runnin' Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there I wish I had you to talk to It hurts to see the man that I've become And to know I'll never see the morning sun shine on the land I'll never see your smilin' face or touch your hand If just once more I could see You, our home, and our little baby
Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there (sirens)
I wish I had you to talk to I hope this letter finds its way to you Forgive me, love, for the shame I put you through And all the tears Hang on, love, to the memories of those happy years Red lights are flashin' around me Yeah, love, it looks like they found me Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there I wish I had you to talk to (This is the police, you are surrounded) Indiana wants me Lord, I can't go back there (Give yourself up) Indiana wants me (This is the police, give yourself up) Lord, I can't go back there (You are surrounded)
i remember this 45 my mom had, she would always play this and "Don't cry daddy" by Elvis when she was depressed. Always wanted to say "these songs won't cheer you up" just a dumb kid then i know.
I hope this letter finds its way to you. Forgive me Love the shame I put you through and all the tears. Hang on Love to the memoires of those happy years
This tune is always on the local oldies station. I had no idea who it was. I guess R. Dean was a fugitive. He wore cool jeans too. I hope he made it out of there - the gunfire explains why he had only one hit song. RIP R. Dean.
Ah shit, the dude gets caught! Lol, its sort of funny to hear this censored version. I was dreading to see him get blown away, as per the original unadultered version.
You would have thought that whoever made the video FILMED it in Indiana, because the supposedly American police cars are all Fords! The reg no of the police car on the right in the video is YHV 112G and one of the patrol cars is a Ford Corsair. Mind you, it was based on the Ford Thunderbird and had only ceased production the year before this charted in the UK.
Jim Schrom, it was in 1971 when this song charted in the UK, and it reached the Number 2 spot there. It also reached Number 2 in Canada and Ireland, and peaked at Number 5 in the US Charts.
I only know three songs by R Dean Taylor, and they were all great - this one especially. Great voice, and the orchestra really brings it up a level.
That's 2 more than I know
@@richedmunds2396Indiana wants me, There's a ghost in my house and Gotta see Jane
A superb comment, i totaly understand it!

True! My favorite songs of all time fall between 1970-75, just wish I was a bit older when they came out, I was 5 when this came out.
For many years, I was the only child in a house full of grown-ups. These songs became embedded in my mind. Or maybe I'm just an old soul. All the way from 🇳🇬

Indiana Wants Me
~ R. Dean Taylor ~
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you
To talk to
If a man ever needed dyin', he did
No one had the right to say what he said about you
And it's so cold and lonely here without you
Out there the law's a-comin'
I'm scared and so tired of runnin'
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you to talk to
It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sun shine on the land
I'll never see your smilin' face or touch your hand
If just once more I could see
You, our home, and our little baby
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
(sirens)
I wish I had you to talk to
I hope this letter finds its way to you
Forgive me, love, for the shame I put you through
And all the tears
Hang on, love, to the memories of those happy years
Red lights are flashin' around me
Yeah, love, it looks like they found me
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you to talk to
(This is the police, you are surrounded)
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
(Give yourself up)
Indiana wants me
(This is the police, give yourself up)
Lord, I can't go back there
(You are surrounded)

Good song all-around as with Gotta See Jane, Ghost in My House, Window Shopping and Taos NM.
❤great 🎵 🎶 SONG . Awesome 👌 👏 👍
classic!
The absolute synfonie with this video
Oooh! Wonderful!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍✌
I never heard the guns on this record until long after its late-1970 popularity. Maybe they were edited out of the radio-play recording.
It's imperative that he runs faster! faster! faster!

Marvin M Messier Not a one hit wonder. There's a ghost in my house - a northern soul classic - and I gotta see Jane also by R. Dean Taylor
Hahaha
@@dellafenton2417 okay smarty, a 3-hit wonder! ;)
The Indiana fleebagger anthem! Great!
I think I love myself
Ah shit, the dude gets caught!

Es lebe die 70iger.
Indiana doesn't want me
Why didnt he make that many recprds he lost is way shame good tune
@ChairgirloftheBored No its "our little baby" not doggy. But it's the most powerful line in the song because it sums up all he lost.
