Thank you for the upload, Where the vlog starts I served my apprentice ship and worked at John Curtis Shopfitters 1976 till 1983,walked through those wooden gates a few times over the years,Happy days . Living in Norfolk now . John D.
Moved to Elsham Terrace, just off the Kirkstall Road, in October 93. Yes, as a student. Still love Leeds and over 30 years later, my kid is thinking of studying there too.
Thank you. My Dad used to work at Kirkstall Forge, right at the end of your video and we lived opposite, in Vesper Gate Mount. I can't believe it was 25 years ago.
I loved Leeds it’s such a big city. I like all the tall tower blocks . My twin lived in cotingley heights right over eland road. Thanks jean Ross and Andrew 🤘🤘❤️❤️
Love my city always have always will. The amount of pubs gone nightclubs gone things popped up is unreal. It's not the biggest city centre but it works when you are out on a sesh
@davidtea740 I hope yours was better than mine. Water accumulated in the footwells the steering shuddered almost out of my hands under braking and I kept getting immobilised by blockages in the carb.
I was 9 years old and robbing loads of toys from jolly giants 😂 😂 I would make my way from Hyde Park ls6 to the store on my ones. Can't let yer kids wander these days though too many wrong uns about.
Straight away I knew the video was starting outside of what is now is Gary Don's & opposite Hughes Funeral Home. I should know it, I walk down that street 5 times a week !
CHECK IT OUT AT 7.30..on the left..JOLLY GIANT TOY SHOP ...I WAS 18 AT THE TIME ...FLIPPIN HECK...THAT TAKES ME BACK ...IM LOOKING OUT FOR ME IN THIS ONE :-)
To left at top kirkstall road there is a hotel I worked there in 1996 in this video it’s not even built! We used to have a fire from Yorkshire tv stay there
Fuck me I used to miss that turn off near the swimming pool every time! Had a shit Astra and thought I was the dogs bollocks. Then had a Cavalier and the rest is history. Love this video!
the skyline of leeds has changed so much with its huge skyscraper buildings present now making the skyline look amazing, and the city centre has literally doubled in size and is to expand even more. leeds and mancs are certainly the 2 cities that really have grown the most over the last 30years, back in the 70s and 80s leeds was a bit dull and grey but it was around 93 onwards that things really changed
Manchester city centre is vast compared to Leeds. Too big to get about if yiu don't know where to go. And Manchester is, like a village compared to London!
@@bobstermahernah once u get used to mancs its easy to get around, plans to double size of leeds cc which is happening, both cities are large in terms of motorways and dual carriageway networks, large juncs, leeds with its inner ring road and tunnels etc but yes i agree mancs is a very big place for sure
I think it was around this time that the red light area moved to Holbeck. I worked on Domestic Street and used Holbeck Lane post office. I was quite surprised to be propositioned just outside it one evening as I hadn’t realised that was the case.
Leeds was always very depressing to me, especially in the 1980s. I can't quite put my finger on it, It always filled me with despair each and every time I had to go there on weekends to visit my mothers side of the family. It was just a very character less and baron landscape that seemed to be trapped in time, I just couldn't bear it. Simply Horrible place.

It's amazing how nearly 30 years later and so many of it is still recognisable. A lot of history in the buildings around Leeds, that's for sure.
Watched from beginning to the end. Leeds born and bred since 1971. Great video 👍
Left Leeds in sept 93, went back for a visit in june 22, couldn't believe how much it had changed.
Remember this as a teen I still live in leeds now and drive these streets :)
I was 12 years old when this was film this was before RUclips what a classic footage especially in 2023 from the USA 🇺🇸

Love these old video's. I was 15, it's brilliant to see it all like this again.

The biggest changes are in the skyline of Leeds and road changes such as cycle lanes and pedestrianisation.
Amazingly nostalgic. In the early 90s I was living in Leeds, and I drove a Capri.

@@momentsofyesterday Was it a 1.6L? My brother had a similar mk III, with the two pod dash and 4 speed box. I still have a 2.0S
1st thing comes to mind, how relaxing the traffic is...these days roads are a nightmare...loved this
I love old videos back from when filming everyday life wasn't a thing!
Amazing thank you for sharing with all the old fogies of the 80s lol x
I remember the old jolly green giant store on Whitehall road and the old evening post building

Used to congregate in that carpark behind the old abc cinema after the gallery had closed at 2am. Tunes pumping from car stereos until 4am happy days
I worked at gallery after it became pleasure rooms,Leeds was a top place for a night out in the early mid 90s
It was indeed 1992-1997 for me. Great times in town @@OoohAaah6603
Along Whitehall Road is totally unrecognisable now! So many shiny office blocks that sit half empty.

I'm a Manchester lad but I lived in Leeds from 2011 to 2014 Armley and Morley went past kirkstall Abbey a few times.
Alot of money has been spent in Leeds centre, yiu can tell. Compare it to Bradford, which is 10 miles away and it's like it's in a time warp 70s style
straight in to the nostalgia with the car engine sound
Flat 4s sound dreadful. Cheapskate Brit cars.
@@tumslucks9781and? Nostalgia doesn't always sound good
@@frogdigy Those cheapskate Brit cars certainly don't. 😜
@tumslucks9781 good job this isn't a flat four then isn't it numbnuts.this is a overhead cam pinto engine and they are great engines.
Thanks for posting. 93 sounds recent but Whitehall Rd & Monk Bridge ? Iron Works brooding presence all gone
the transformation of Whitehall road is unreal
This takes me back ❤
I'm watching this in 1983 and the future looks fine.
Cheers, didn’t expect to end up going past Kirkstall Abbey :)
It would take a lot longer than 15 minutes to drive that route today!
It would have usually done then too, this was a Sunday morning.
@@momentsofyesterday Ahhhh... That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for sharing the video BTW.
What a gem thank you
Dash cam before dash cams lol
The sound of the car brings bk memories
Thats a Capri!!!! Had 53 of them and still have 2! Is that a 1.6 pinto???? Wish i could go back to those days.
The skyline is very different today that's for sure
Mental, you drove right by where my shop is now, it would have been built just a couple years after this video, now it's falling down lol

the first ever dashcam - guy must be worth a fortune
This was on iPhone 📲 - 12 😂
It looks very different and much better nowadays. And that was already an improvement to the 1970s!
So much change yet so much the same.
as younger person and i dont know Leeds well, i didnt recognise anywhere until 8:50

Looks more advanced back then lol 😆 😂 🤣
Take me back!
Ford Capri?
I've walked all over these routes!
Ah, remember going down Kirkstall road without having to fear the fucking speed cameras.
Near on 31 years later and it has not changed much
Haha people been speeding in that inside lane upto the gyratory since forever then!?!
What type of car was it?
Capri
What car is the cammer driving?

Bot much traffic
Slow down
Leeds minus the bl00dy bike lanes, reduced motorist lanes and increased congestion. Bliss.
No, if you look there wasn't as much traffic then, the things you don't like are needed because there is now too much traffic.
