- The Alfa Romeo GTAm is a 540hp £156,000 4-door saloon with monstrous performance and a 190mph+ top speed but the £150,000 Jaguar Project 8 has 600hp, a 200mph+ top speed and is the fastest 4-door saloon around the 'Ring. But which is best to drive on a British B-road? Let's find out..

Seeing how jaw droppingly beautiful the styling is on that Alfa Romeo just makes me think what a total disaster modern BMW styling is
*Alfa Romeo please…….
M for marketing , BMW for me lost all there passion after the M3 , Alfa cloverleaf modded cars go like stink , and their passion for styling is the one of the best in the world
@@markblackman2542 They need a G series for more Grille :)
What about the new M5 CS?? Best looking BMW in years imo
You’re being harsh. They’re not do bad , check alpina ❤️
Giulia for me, but with the relentless push toward EV's and restrictions getting stricter, im just glad that Alfa Romeo and Jaguar were mad enough to build both these cars 👏🏾
Indeed. If governments really cared about pollution, instead of banning ICE, they would ban the 12 megafreighters that ship all the garbage from China on behalf of Walmart and Amazon. These are the biggest polluters by far.
@@cdb5001 Absolutely !
But how long will EV's still be allowed in their current form. Just look at the new report from Sweden's Transportation on CO2 produced from manufacturing just the batteries and not even the car. You can run a petrol car for 8 years to match the CO2 produced to make a battery for an electric car. Then look at Plasma Kinetics Hydrogen. We have seen the video on Harry's channel from JCB. Tells a story.
@@strat0871 I'm not against EV's, I just think the Elon hype train makes people completely insane and out of touch.
So, ICE is bad, but mining for precious metals and displacing land, people, animal species, climate damage is not a problem??
I personally think hydrogen is the best option, if we can get around storing it in large quantities. Honda and Toyota are really pushing the technology, and it Hydrogen doesn't pollute, and there's no mining involved.
It's all smoke and mirrors until someone develops a plan for the Power Generation build up. We'll need a 350% increase in power generation and transmission capacity. That's a conservative estimate strictly for vehicles. Not including public transportation, taxi's, ships and trains. That's on top of increased growth and electrification of everything else.
China is building brand new Coal Fired Plants as fast as possible, literally that speed. They are responsible for a majority of the World's pollution. The entire UN is aware of it, yet they pat them on the back for making commitments they don't honor, at all.
Jobs will pay your bills, business would make you rich but investment makes and keeps your wealth. So I would advice you invest in crypto currency like bitcoins right now and make huge profits
The Alfa is simply a sculpture on wheels, hope to own one someday soon 🙏🏾
I drove an M3 and the Quadro and let me tell you, that Alfa is the one I'd buy!
It's Quadri not Quadro...Quadro in Italian is a picture frame.
Been driving an Audi Rs3 for 2 years I wanted something else. Test drove yesterday a g80 m3 and then the Guilia Quad. I was completely blown away by the ride quality, chassis dynamics and performance of the Guilia so much that I passed on the new m3. The m3 didn't have any character to it and there was no road/steering feeling whatsoever. Parked in my garage now is a beautiful Quad and I couldn't be happier. Truly the best car I've ever driven in my life.
Last thing to mention.. The styling of this car and the rarity of it truly blows anything else away.
Dr BMW, please see Alfa for how to do a front end. You have to love the way Harry looks like he should drive a Morris Traveller but would absolutely embarrass 99% of drivers. Top drawer stuff, Sir. 👍👍
Alfas front end reminds me of nachos
Honestly, if you stand a little back and hold your hand over the middle of each, BMW already copied them. I own a QV. I couldn't unsee it once I noticed. It kinda makes the M front worse, actually.
BMW makes a shit with huge marketing.
That GTA-M is drop dead gorgeous, especially in that colour. The price means I have to keep enjoying my 200HP Giulia though :)
This 2, SPECIALLY the Alfa puts Mercedes and BMW to complete and utter shame. Honestly just look at that italian monster. This is the Alfa performance everybody has been looking for.
That colour is incredible 🤤 would have this over any of the German equivalents any day of the week
BMW WHO ?
I seen a bmw drive by with a very similar color to that alfa
@@hankmoody6996 ....Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.....Did you have to look at the hideous new BMW Grille also ?
😂 yeahh but the color made you not look so hard at it lol
@@hankmoody6996 it’s spectacular, I think you’re in the minority who think otherwise.
in the near future we will be talking about how great these cars are. Both the GTAm and the Project 8 are special cars and we need to thank Alfa and Jaguar for producing them.
Also, Please do a full review on that original red GTA!!!
Active splitter in action at 13:10 😎
Nice catch! I have no idea why you'd extend it. It's so low already that I don't even park nose-in. I've had to replace my splitter before because of a pothole in a ditch while doing a u-turn. Breaking the QV one was a $3800 mistake. Breaking that one would be a bit more I suspect.
That's one of the most beautiful modern cars to date. That V6 sounds incredible.
Yes, the Project 8 is nice, but doesn't compare to the Italian job.
It sounds OK but compared to the old Alfa 'Busso' V6 it sounds monotone and flat, for me it's the most disappointing aspect of the 3 quarter Ferrari V8
Ohhh yeahhh
@@benzinapaul7416 hear it in person. I've got a Giulia Quadrifoglio. I drive with the windows down in South Florida where "cold" is in the 80's just because I love that sound so much.
@@yabo1 if I lived in that kind of weather my windows would be down every moment apart from rain…enjoy!
Beguiling car, gorgeous colour, interior, sound and heritage. Italians and Brits brothers in arms. Class apart
what about swedes??
Very nice ladies and punch way above their population size fighter jet, a supercar and Volvo of course. Just leave our monastries alone on your next boat party visit !!
Excellent review, with great camera and microphone work! Both cars look and sound amazing. So pleased Alfa have produced the GTA and GTAm models, such a great looking and sounding car, that blip when coming down through the gears brought out a smile every time :-) I might be biased as I drive a Giulia Veloce, but the GTAm is something special.
Really wish you would have included a drive in the original GTA to remind us of the heritage. Fantastic video! Great job once again.
I sat in one on a little drive once. One of the later widebody ones
My thoughts exactly! Maybe he has one planned up his sleeve...
@A World Under A Spell Read up about them. Awesome cars in their day. Won many races. Yes they are old now, but still quick and minus all the show off stuff you get with modern cars
both beautiful and wonderful, i would choose any of these 2 over a hidieus m3. the alfa is gorgeous
Those are both amazing vehicles. That Alfa interior is beautiful, and just a more appealing car to me. But honestly I'd be tempted to choose option C and go with the red alfa.
Nice idea, but the original GTA is now worth BIG money, especially with a twin plug head. It's would cost you probably more then the other two put together. 😛
or m5 CS?
I think the Alfa sounds and looks better
Both of them are very, very special vehicles. I just love the fact Alfa went through the trouble to make the GTAm in first place. It is a magical car, and so is the Jag.
Well, consider this from an FCA/Alfa perspective- Marchionne pulls the top engineers from each wing of Ferrari infuriating Montezelomo, hands them 5 billion and basically says "build the car to save Alfa. You've got two years. Go."
So the designer of the F154 motor and the designer of the Speciale have one goal for the two initial iterations- Nurburgring records. Two years later, the manual Giulia Quadrifoglio sets a sedan record. Porche comes back and beats it with the Panamera by like two seconds. Alfa returns with the ZF 8 speed transmission instead in a QV. They claim the record by like 5 seconds....
A year later, Alfa also has the Stelvio QV as a record holder and all is right in the world. Jaguar turns an XF into an empty shell without even rear seats, but because it's 4 doors, it claims the new record by something like 7-8 seconds.
This is Alfa's response. They did to the Giulia what Jaguar did to the XF, but kept it Alfa-like with rwd only, etc. They didn't go through the trouble, as much as they did what they had to to make a run for that record again. I'm sure we'll hear about it when they get around to making the run. Maybe they did and didn't reclaim it, lol. Either way they sold them all so it's still a win for them. ;)

Sorry lads but today I'm emotional 😢
Awesome review as always Harry. My Giulietta QV wants to be that GTAm when it grows up.
That Verde Visconti really suits it, I'd say better than red actually. Difficult to choose one over the other, I like both. Seeing what the future holds this GTA might be a farewell, Alfa's last swan song before the inevitable electric future comes. Same applies to the P8
Sorry Harry id take the Alfa ...it looks great esp with all the added bits and bobs. Back in the day i use to work on a lot of Alfa's esp the 75 & 164's with the V6's. The engines was super smooth and grunty even in N/A form.
You can stick Audi, BMW and Mercedes with their uber wagons.
I'll have one of these ta very much!
Great video! Good to see both cars out doing a little British touge run!😁👍 Also, I'm glad people are buying the Alfa. These companies need to know there's a solid business case for good cars. Especially if marketed to the enthusiasts out there who understand and appreciate good old motoring.
Always liked alfa romeo and jaguar currently own a f type, i think i would chose the alfa on looks but the jaguar on usability. A very difficult decision if i ever win the lottery.
It's not a decision if you win the lotto. You buy both.
Oh Harry...what a pair!!! My choice would be the GTAm (cos it looks mental) bur not really an everyday user. Maybe time to get rid of the wife and kids
Quality street coloured cars!!

@@andreasphotiou1886 I no suspect you are correct Sir!! 😋
Oh dear Harry. No two second gap between cars and driving over 75 mph in a 60 zone. Tut Tut, I've reported you to the rozzers, ya thug.
This is how the M5 competition should be, instead of the overweight thing it’s become, shame on you BMW motorsport. Great video ‘H’ 😀👍🏻
the M5 CS is cheaper and faster than both of these
@@amadousy7543 and WAY heavier -.-
@@amadousy7543 a bit cringe with your profile pic…
@@bennetulbricht9922 Way heavier? Look, I would probably take the Alfa, Jag and BMW in that order, but you aren’t giving the BMW enough credit. It’s 1825 kg which is only about 80kg more than the Jag, arguably has the best interior, still has a wonderful exterior (I like it more than the Jag, less than the Alfa but I’d like to see them all in person), would beat both in a drag race and would probably beat the Jag’s Nurburgring lap time. It’s the ‘better’ car, but lacks character, drama, sound and soul compared to the Alfa and Jag. It is still a beast and if I had the means, I’d own all three.
Edit: the BMW also has rear seats and is probably the most dailyable car as it has decent ride and space.
It’s because BMW M stand for marketing and certainly not motorsports.
I'm jelly.. I only have the regular Giulia QV.. Rosso Competizione, Sparco seats..
I am so in love with my Quadrifoglio, it oozes the soul of previous generation BMW's but with stunning modern looks.
The GTA to me is just a Quad on steroids looks wise, would love to get on track with a GTA and run the Quad and GTA head to head and see exactly how much more it has to give. Stunning cars, I doubt I will ever sell mine, if you wanna go fast in the Quad on track in "Race Mode" you better bring your A game, as it is alive and so much fun :D
Agreed. Mine's a lifer. Also-there's modes other than Race?!? I never knew.

Nice one! 😁
As a pediatric surgeon in germany, I will never be able to afford one of these. Happy with my old XJ though...
Not many cars make that P8 look "Normal" But that Alfa.....
Personally assumed the Jag would be a better car, and i would take the Alfa every time, there is just "something" about an Alfa (oh and more on the original GTA pretty please)
The Alfa is a rip off though.
Over twice the price of a regular Guilia QF for the same shell, same engine with a whopping 30ps more, same drivetrain, 2 bucket seats, a half cage and a bit of carbon fibre.
Jaguar fitted a totally different engine, 4wd drivetrain, bespoke bodywork, uprated bodyshell as well as some similar interior upgrades (cage, different seats etc)
Don't get me wrong, I love both - but it's hard to justify the alfa with that massive price increase for so few changes
@@th3b0untyhunter I'm not sure purchasers in this segment are looking for value for money.....435 of 500 is probably more important to them, and the future value that GTA brings to classic Alfas.
Alfa has this very fast steering ratios for the past 30 years, nothing comes close to it no matter if you drive the least powerful version of the car, 145/146, 155, 156, 147, 159, Giulietta, MiTo, all very fast and responsive steering. It is interesting how people now wonder how fast the Giulia and Stelvio steering is, nothing new for us who drive Alfas.
Just think, this might be the very pinnacle of internal combustion driving-forever.
Absolutely brilliant cars! With the rubbish that bmw and Mercedes’ have been producing in the last 3 years I truly believe these are currently some of the best practical fast cars on the market, even the standard versions of both cars are superb.
Sadly, you can have the most beautiful car in the world, but nobody is buying it anyways. Mercedes and BMW are continuing to built their 3 series and c-class in some way. Alfa dont...
@@Gentleman...Driver yea but even the standard car is nice and more practical, I’d have the jag though.
@@callumhardy5098 I know. And I would buy the Alfa if I would look for a sedan.
"Sadly" I am okay with a roadster as a daily.
@@Gentleman...Driver very nice! I make do with a 2006 jag XJ. Such a yacht to drive love it.
Giulia QV owner here. If you'd seen the current M4 with a good driver at the wheel at a track day you wouldn't say it was rubbish. It's pretty ugly IMHO but on the track it sings.
Jaguar fanatic from the land of Alfas here, but the P8 just doesn't cut it for me. As competent and naughty as it is, it completely lacks the presence, the aura, the magic, the heritage-feel of the GTAm. Please, do review the original Giulia GTA as well if you can.
The green colour is quite nice but I'd love to see it a Rosso Scuderia or Rosso Corsa red! Not a big fan of Alfa's Montreal red.
Seriously? The fact that Jaguar couldn't sell (anywhere near) the 300 they planned and the Alfa sold out is a plus-point for the Jag because it's rarer?! Sure...
Wouldn't look twice at the Jag. The sound alone from the Giulia does it nevermind the better looks.
The Project 8 looks absolutely stunning in the flesh. Saw one a month ago.
Alfa all the way!!! The Jag is a Beast but there is something about a Alfa GTA. Timeless!!!
Thank you for another great video Mr. Metcalfe, that green GTA was really nice.
I absolutely adore my 2018 Giulia QV. Best car I’ve ever had. So sad these GTA’s aren’t coming to the States
If you have enough money, you can get one.
@@ark9823 you *can* but then you're limited to x miles, etc with Show and Display status.
I think also insurance companies are gonna hate then for all the carbon fiber. Like the guy you replied to, I also have an '18 Quadrifoglio, and even a minor fender bender in mine on the front cost $39,700 to fix.. and that was so minor that all sensors and lights still worked and airbags didn't even deploy. I shudder to think what the GTA-m would cost.
There's a QV owner in South Florida where I live that's gotten all the body bits to make a GTA clone, but that's the closest I've heard to one being here(besides unconfirmed rumors of a Ferrari dealer owner sneaking one though), and with a couple thousand of them in the states, at most, we totally can smell our own, you know? It's a small owner community.
That supercharged v8 from the P8 is proper British Bully Beef in a velvet glove with a punch from Tyson Fury. That Alfa GTA n perfect in every way . Both will make you happy you own one. A perfect back to back comparison Harry. Bravo 👍
Amazing video with 2 absolute show stoppers. That Alfa is a dream. The QV is already a thing to be loved, but this mad iteration is said to make history.
This is a very cool comparison but that project 8 needs that side decal back, it suits it very well
Every Sunday Harry’s Garage cooks up a classic
Giulia for me too. What a great car. Love it👌🔥🍀
Design wise the Giulia is stunning, the coolest berlina on the road now, by a mile. But I don't get these cars, the normal Giulia, an M3, etc can serve both as a daily and sports car but the GtAm is just a racing car with four doors, it's a bit odd. I still would have one though, absolute fire
Its like the GT3 RS from Porsche 911. You can buy always a normal 911, but the GT3 RS is the track version of it. Or like a BMW M3 GTS, or the here shown Project 8. Those are mostly for collectors, but some of them are driving on track days. The point is you have a car that is street legal from the factory. You dont have to bother for anything. And you can attend to track days with it, without having to modify it.
New italian word by Our Harry: “Quattrofoglio”
When an Audi and an Alfa mate😎
Alfa has two turns lock to lock since 1997 with Alfa 156. Ferrari has this kind of steering since 2009 with 458. So Ferrari is copying Alfa Romeo.
was already in 2nd generation 155.
Alfa looks better and should be more fun as its rwd, powerful and light. The Project 8 should be better day to day car as it has awd and v8.
Love the character & Italian quirks of the Alfa. Though for an everyday machine the ‘ Darth Vader’ project 8 is perfect!
I think the jag is the best as an investment but the looks of the alfa do it for me great video Harry thanks for making it take care
Love the alfa but I would go for the normal guilia qv and have that tuned properly there 653 hp now at certain tuners ..beautiful.
I think BMW need to hire some designers! This Alfa proves you can make a good looking car even with all the modern regulations. It doesn't bother me that many 'runabout' type cars are ugly these days, but BMW always used to have really top-notch styling until the Bangel era, things improved a little post-Bangel but now they've just gone off a cliff. Well done Alfa, I'll probably never see one on the road, but it's a stunner.
Always wanted an Alfa - if I were where you are in life, Harry... I'd grab one of those.
This type of cars are something else are just amazing its just something so fantastic about this type of sportiv sedans Project 8 is one of my dream cars and from today the Alfa is the other one ,superb video sir .
I just love the Giulia, so mutch more character then a M3 or C63💪
You've got some lovely cars, but that jag doesn't do anything for me, I just don't get it. Alfa all the way
The Alfa for me is like a GTR. I understand the significance and performance. Like to look at it but I have no inclination to own one.
I agree. I’d still prefer to own the latest Lotus, as lovely as both these cars are.
I love the purity of the 1960's GTA
The Alfa 8C came in the same two limited production runs. If you’re lucky enough to find one, you’ll have to fork out double the cost of new now.
I’m guessing the GTA & -m will be going the same way, especially with the advent of ev’s.
I’m wondering how many of the pre-sold-out figures are investors with that in mind.
The Giulia isn’t the level of mobile art of the 8C, but is dynamically superior.
Long term, that superb Project 8 will surely be the same.
My GQ is coming up for 3 years of trouble free fun. It’s exceeded expectations. Being a slightly later model, but still with the original carbon roof, and opting for carbon ceramics, it is slightly nimbler than a standard GQ. For the road, all you’d need.
9:10 My car, as is common these days, has the wireless key and push button start. What's the purpose of placing the wireless key into a certain prescribed spot, which seems to be so common? Why not just leave the key in your pocket?
Yep. I think wireless keys were the answer to a problem that didn't exist. But at least they're pointless and extravagantly expensive, so that's all right...
@@EleanorPeterson Yep. I could get going in my 2008 with a semi-normal insert-and-twist key a few seconds faster than in my 2017 with the wireless key and all its required interlock delays and required procedural steps.
Mercedes and a few other brands like Aston did the "fob in the dash and turn" thing until quite recently. Some might still. The Alfa doesn't have that. You can keep it in your pocket, though the fob range is one of my only complaints about the car. That trick where you hold it under your chin works though. You just look like an idiot getting out of an Italian sports car and holding a key to your throat, lol.
Not sure about the Jaguar, but the Alfa does have a slot in the center console where you can put a fob that has a dead battery (never tested a fob without a battery) and it'll power the fob through induction so you can start the car. Those aren't new, though. My 2011 SHO had that, too.
Ok. Now I really want to test without a key. I'll check and edit, lol.
Edit- ok. That was cool. If you put a key without even a battery on the fob symbol on the rubber bottom of the center console, a Giulia Quadrifoglio will start. I honestly didn't think it would.
Id love to have the "original" Alfa Giulia. I actually really dont like the GTAm look. Hm.
Had a great vicarious time with Harry. Thinking I’ll go out for a spin! Thanks.
The polycarbonate windows will be like looking out on fog after a couple of washes.🤔
If you wash it properly, not really. If you go to the automatic car wash in any of this type of cars (or any car tbh) you're insane
Honestly rather have the old one, best looking of the 3 and I’m betting the most fun.
I agree star lord, that green thing does absolutely nothing for me.
I have a Giulia QV and a 1967 Giulia Sprint GT Veloce i.e. the road version of the old one. Can confirm it's a whole lot of fun on a back road or a twisty racetrack, but hitting 235km/h on the straight and taking corners at seemingly impossible speeds are also pretty cool.
Good for you that can still enjoy cars like these in UK. In the communist country of Italy, owners would get taxed for thousands and thousands in yearly road tax, on top of a 22% VAT paid at purchase. At risk of getting occasional investigations from the tax office. For adding insult to the injury, get prepared to be stopped to get your documents checked by police every time you leave home for a spin. A reason there are very few Ferraris or Lambos in Italy.
Lovely car. The spirit of Alfa Romeo is alive and well.
Alfa🚘 in automatic ⚙gearbox⚙ sounds and feels 😖 😱 😨 😰 😖 (awful) !!!
There is a particular moto that traditionally define overall amazing Alfa's caracter :
"Alfa Romeo ❤cuore sportivo"
Apart from the actual front bumper which it looks like agricultural shredder, and the rear spoiler inspired by your 2 years old brother.
The Alfa. If the GTAm is good enough for Alfa Romeo F1 driver Antonio Giovanazzi it's good enough for me.
Oh Alfa... You did it again, what a magnificent machine 🥰
Another great video Harry, I have to say why anyone would choose to buy a 4 door saloon without rear seats bemuses me, the 4 door body shell brings with it inherent drawbacks i.e weight, centre of gravity, you might as well just get a 2 door if comparative value (or less) it will be quicker round any track, I would consider the GTAM pack with the rear seats.
Sorry Harry mate. Your P8 is lovely, but I wouldn't think twice about going home in that Alfa. The Giulia is fabulous. I hope I get to own one one day.
I'll take that gorgeous original GTA any day ❤️
It's up for sale at £250,000, so you'll need an extra £100,000 if you want it
@@harrysgarage I take two.
Nothing looks better than that Alfa.
Most enjoyable car review I've watched to date
Both cars have their respective characteristics, but there's something edgy and senses tingling about the Alfa. You appear to be driving it through every corner and thinking if it will step out, whereas the P8 offers more stability with heaps of punch. I like both but the Alfa edges out the P8....just!
The central place under the arm rest is not to charge the key (which has a normal not rechargeable battery inside), it's to be able to start the car when the key battery is dead.
Harry - to avoid removal of various British car club memberships - has to be the Project 8..... (reaches for the G & T).......
I mean.....it's a nice looking car and all, however for me if i were to buy an Alfa with 2 seats ,I'd buy something like the 4C. I'd much rather the version with the 4 seats, but that just me.
Just look at them.. it should be obvious.. The Alfa GTAm is insane!.. 😍
Jag, although I feel I’ll be in a minority here. The V8 and AWD are two huge advantages. The all weather factor of the P8 make it so much more usable.
I am with you.
and you live in snowy country?
IF the Alfa Romeo Guilia GTA had a 5ltr V8, i could see it being run the V8 Supercar Series,
WHY have rear doors, NOTHING in there!
A proper driver's video! The Jag for me - it's even rarer and the sound!!!
Agreed. Bought my f Pace SVR purely because of that engine. Sounds way better than the Alfa, and as an SUV it's way more practical, and way less expensive.
Who's the 55 C U Next Tuesdays that thumbs down these vids? Greetings from Australia
Why have rear opening doors?
