thank you so much for posting. My mom, myself and my dad-who won for Annie all on this. LOVED. But of course, all of us are cut out before Pacino. So it goes...
I honestly love this era of Broadway. Bea Arthur singing "Don't Rain on My Parade," Tony Randall, Diana Ross, the wonderful original version of Annie, simply fabulous!
Yes loved Dottie. She was so happy and later said it was the happiest weeks of her life, until her beloved Norm passed a few weeks later. And Jane Alexander, another lovely lady, wore the same dress she wore to the Oscars earlier that year. Who would ever do that today?
Wow. That’s a young Christopher Lloyd (Doc from Back to the Future) singing a Kurt Weill tune from the show. “Happy End.” And Meryl Streep was in that same cast.
I've always believed that "I Love My Wife" was an overlooked show. It started well, winning 2 Tonys out of 5 nominations, and yet it has never had a revival. But it was Annie's year.
The girl stealing the show in the “Annie” number is Danielle Brisebois, who went on the star in “ Archie Bunkers place”. Rooster had moves that put Michael Jackson to shame.
Not to take anything away from the talented Danielle, but the role of Molly was basically designed to steal if not the show then at least the scenes she appears in prominently. All subsequent Mollys had some big little shoes to fill thanks to Danielle.
I like Jack Albertson as much as the next person, but why on earth did they think having him do "Before the Parade Passes By" on the Tony Awards was a good idea?!
With all the sub par singing by tv "stars" no wonder the writers felt like they had to defend broadway and say it is a survivor. With horribly produced shows like this, it's a wonder it survived. The only thing I liked was that the acceptance speeches weren't given a time limit.
+Mike Anderson I'd note that some of the singing tv stars you are no doubt referring to (Jack Albertson [Tony winner], Buddy Ebsen, Bea Arthur [Tony winner], Jean Stapleton, etc.) were Broadway stars first.
oh man, to be a headphone user can have a downside, only hearing the show on one side (I'm watching the 1974 tonys right now I can hear on both sides fine)

Dorothy Loudon was a treasure who left us too soon.
+Cathy Cartee Yes!! She can steal any scene she's in. Remarkable and not enough people know about her.
@@stevers62 I love the 79 Tonys when she brilliantly sang "50 percent".
The best Tony acceptance speech ever...Seeing Dorothy Loudon perform for me was a thrill.
Loved seeing the original "Annie" on Broadway Andrea McCardle!
Dorothy Loudon gave probably the best tony speech ever. It always makes me smile:)
I have been looking for this FOREVER!
Miss pooch, thanks for bringing this entertainment to us. Wow!
I loved Bea Arthur singing. She has such a beautiful way to sell the song with perfection!

Ms. Trazana Beverley made history that evening by becoming the first African-American to earn the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play 🙂👍🏼👍🏼
Came here for this. So proud to have her as my acting professor
Al Pacino is perfect. I literally love him more than everything.
Yes loved Dottie. She was so happy and later said it was the happiest weeks of her life, until her beloved Norm passed a few weeks later. And Jane Alexander, another lovely lady, wore the same dress she wore to the Oscars earlier that year. Who would ever do that today?
Bravo, Buddy Ebsen!!!
Broadway was Broadway then.
Hard to believe they thought it was just surviving!
Fantastic!
MissPoochSmooch one cold beer for you here .... Thanks so so much.
THE AMAZING and PHENOMENAL DIANA ROSS!! Get that Tony Award Lady Di
BRILLANT!
She was a treasure. Seeing her always, ALWAYS makes me smile.
Wow. That’s a young Christopher Lloyd (Doc from Back to the Future) singing a Kurt Weill tune from the show. “Happy End.” And Meryl Streep was in that same cast.
I love Trazana Beverley winning a Tony for the show “for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow was enuf.”

I enjoyed seeing Jack Albertson A.K.A. grandpa Joe singing before the parade passes by
Where is Barry Manilow? He sang New York City Rhythm between Jean Stapelton and Leslie Uggums performances.. It disappeared!!
I think he showed up again during the finale next to Lily Tomlin.
Lily Tomlin was so funny-same as today!
Boy you forget how great Andrea McArdle could sing
The girl stealing the show in the “Annie” number is Danielle Brisebois, who went on the star in “ Archie Bunkers place”. Rooster had moves that put Michael Jackson to shame.
You can spot many of those move in the Get Happy number in "Summer Stock". I forget the name of that wonderful MGM dancer
he was definitely giving it his all in that number..but he also looks and moves like a cartoon character

Interesting that both of the play actor winners, Jonathan Pryce and Al Pacino, were Oscar nominees just this year. Talk about "survival"!
I loved Jack Albertson's movie star eye glasses ... him and Redd Foxx had the same ones I think!
Someone come get grandpa Joe! He's off his meds and thiñks he's a Broadway star
Wow millicent martin was amazing! Top brit!
Lenny Baker winning at around the 37 minute mark. The next year, cancer cut his career short. :(
Millicent Martin is still HERE. She the delightful costar of Grace and Frankie.
I like Jack Albertson as much as the next person, but why on earth did they think having him do "Before the Parade Passes By" on the Tony Awards was a good idea?!
Were can I find the full annie musical?
Sasha Charnin, your father is a genius.
Andrea McArdle rules.
FYI, her speech is at 1:10
Choppy choppy choppy, but well worth it!
l love al pacino

+Mike Anderson As for only liking the speeches, you obviously skipped past the Annie sequence or have a heart of stone.

Moron. They all started on Broadway and you know that mr. Miserable
What a silly curmudgeon.
@@michaell.walton7076 Or no taste.
Uhhh i love this man so much❤️❤️
1:37:59 😩✨
I'm surprised Fioni B Aldridge didn't tie (I usually find it funny when someone is nominated twice in the same category)
Theoni
Yay
Bea is great, she may have been hitting the sauce... nomitated anyone. ?
Miss hannigan is mother annie
How come only Mike Nichols accepted the Tony?
Funny all those singing I’m Still Here.....Aren’t!
oh man, to be a headphone user can have a downside, only hearing the show on one side (I'm watching the 1974 tonys right now I can hear on both sides fine)
Annie was notated for best lead actress but she lost to miss hanigain
how ironic
1960's tony award
Nomi tated really Bea Arthur 😒
