- I've painted a few different versions of this beautiful scene over the past several years, and it's always a joy to paint! So I though maybe you'd like to paint it with me? If you are part of my Get Gouachey group you also have access to a companion guidebook for this tutorial, with photos and tips for each step.
Happy painting!

Can i just say that it's incredible how accessible you made this. You broke it down beautifully.
Breathtaking. I've just come home from a lonely walk in the forest and this is just like being there 🥰
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 💕
One thing I can never figure out watching gouache tutorials is when are you letting the paint dry before you paint another layer versus just going right for it
I’m always letting it dry before layering on top- you don’t really have to think about it so much on a cotton paper as it tends to dry super quick if you don’t have a lot of moisture in your paint. Some techniques require the paint to still be wet, but I’m happy to add extra moisture to the page to reactivate when I’m ready- such is the magic of gouache! 💕
@@RuthWilshawI have seen your sketch book tour and am amazed by that I want tutorials of many of them but u haven't uploaded on your you tube channel can you please reply me so I can get a tutorial of those beautiful amazing paintings as u are one of the greatest artist I have seen
I just want to walk into that woods. Beautiful mood❤️
You explain so well. Need more of such forest tutorials.
Thank you! I hope to share more tutorials like this 😊💕
The artist here is no less than a Magician
I went into a depressive low and didn't do much art for a month or so, I'm just watching a bunch of videos to get me ready for a "one painting a weak" thing I'm doing. I also have 4 commissions coming up and 3 are for a customer I know well as I've painted her dogs and cat before, I'll definitely have plenty of art to keep me busy for the holiday season.
Thank you so much, Ruth! Yours is my very first gouache tutorial (and gouache painting in general) and your light and contrast really inspired me! I will keep practising this splendid media, it really offers the best of the two worlds: watercolor and opaque paints! Blessings!!!
Your forest landscape is beautiful. I love that tip on how to paint the sky from light to dark. I have never seen a video that helped paint the sky that way. Love it! ♥️
Love this painting. I’m trying to learn to work with gouache and appreciate your tutorial.
I’ve got a project in my secondary school and this art inspired me a lot. Masterpiece!
This whole video and painting was absolutely stunning! I learnt a lot from just a 6 min video. Can you please make more such videos? I can't afford your get gouachey classes 😭 it would be so helpful!
Восторг. Как красиво.👍👏👏
Как красиво. Столько воздуха. Спасибо за урок.👍👍👍
Very helpful and simple explanation and tips
Merci de partager votre technique pour permettre à des débutants (comme moi) d'oser commencer à peindre; c'est vraiment très précieux . J'aime beaucoup vos forêts mystérieuses et profondes 🌲🌿💫
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing. ❤️✝️🌹❤️
Excellent demonstration Thank you!
I love this , it’s beautiful.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊
What a great tutorial. It’s fascinating to see how you achieved that glowing effect. I gave this a try, but I need a lot more practice. 😃
This is my favorite one of yours so far! I’m going to try something similar this afternoon. Thanks!
Thank you! An afternoon spent painting sounds perfect! ✨💕

Wauw 🤩, you have a verry nice and lovely style for gouache painting.
Thank you so much! ✨💕
Nice sketch.
this is brillient ruth thanks for yor time ans wisdom, which make of brushes are you using?
The final picture in your opening is just stunning. Have been slowly acquiring gouache tubes. Do you use many more colors or do you stick with primary only and mix?
Thank you! I have loads of different colors, and I tend to go through phases of wanting to use a specific color. For tutorials I mostly like to try and use colors that people are likely to have on hand- it just so happens that the basic primaries are pretty flexible 😉 Thanks for watching! 💕
This is so beautiful. Do you use references for these or just create as you go from imagination? I am just starting out with gouache and am having a hard time thinking of how to best practice.
Thank you! I paint from both reference photos and my imagination. I can definitely recommend using references to develop your painting and observation skills- it’s one of my favorite painting exercises to do as it doesn’t require too much brain work! 🥰
@@RuthWilshaw Thank you! 😊
I want to try to do one with zorn pallet so im looking at what people are doing.
Is this with watercolors or acrylic?
This is painted with gouache! 😊
Your explanation is amazing and clear 🤍. I was so happy when I saw your gouache course and I immediately bought it. I am excited to start learning and I hope to sign up for the monthly lessons as well. Sorry, I used Google Translate.
