    As I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten a much deeper appreciation of more neutral-leaning colors, I love the mossy greens, warm yellows, and red-browns here.

    Hi Allison! Love your work. Would it be possible to show us glimpses of the consistency of your paint on the palette? I see you do what looks like a lot of thinner washes and blend them in, somehow without lifting the layers underneath?! It would be great to see how the magic works 🪄

    • @allisonaletha
      @allisonaletha  Год назад +2

      Thank you so much!! I can definitely try to add more shots of my paint consistency in my videos! I only have one camera, so I struggle a bit sometimes with varying my shot angles. 😅 I love using thinner washes over thick ones. It can be a bit risky (too much water or brush pressure and the layers underneath will left), but those thin washes can add SO MUCH dimension, saturation, value, etc. 💛

    Just pausing one second while watching the video, because I couldn't help but say...
    Allison, I had been following you for a while already, first on instagram and them came over here, because I just purely and instinctively fell in love with your illustrations.
    But actually, since Instagram's and RUclips's homes are constantly so full-packed of content up to a confusing Ievel, I admit I hadn't yet payed more attention to the actual content that you share... and I say, what a shame!
    Today, for some reason, I clicked on this video and I while listening to you and watching the scene come together, I felt like becoming more aware of how much experience you have and share with everyone. It could be evident already from you art, because it has so many layers of construction (metaphorically and also literally, no pun intended) and so much technical mastery.
    But also, the way you can explain and share your process is the cherry on top. It is not such a common quality at all!
    I appreciated it so so much. I have always struggled with background, especially exteriors; but in general I just find them harder to be interested into from a creator perspective, and therefore I am always so fascinated by illustrators who can tackle them. So thank you so so much for delivering your tips and techniques! I will try to take them into my practice, and also I want to conclude just by telling you how much your illustrations inspire me, and give me the instant desire to pick up a brush, a pencil, a paper pad and draw again. Which is once more something very precious to find. They are so lively, so much going on in each scene, so narrative and expressive. Thank you, and happy to continue to follow you through your artistic path, I feel like it's truly enriching to be a witness of it.
    Now back to watching the video again! 😊

      Wow, thank you so, so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with me! I'm so glad that my art and my videos have resonated with you. I completely understand just how difficult it can be to invest yourself into other people's art on social media. The internet is an incredibly loud place, and it often feels like everyone is screaming for your attention. I'm truly honored that you took the time to watch my video and find joy in my illustration! 💛

    I thoroughly enjoyed this nugget of knowledge! I struggle with creating dynamic and interesting backgrounds, so I'll definitely refer to this video in the future. You mentioned you create a color key for your illustrations - could you do a video where you demo that process? I *kinda* do it, but more so for color palettes. I've recently started focusing on my lights & shadows so I can hone my value skills. I love the idea of including a color key and would immensely appreciate a demo of it 😁
    Anyhoo - I could go on all day about how much I love your delivery of knowledge and how many things have clicked in my brain while watching your videos - (especially your color series!) - but I'll just say THANK YOU for being such a refreshing, nerdy, & positive person in the art space. Congrats on the website!

      I'm so glad you enjoyed my video!! Unfortunately, I do my color keys digitally, and I don't think my computer would run quick enough while trying to screen record that process. 😅 But I might be able to try to verbally break down my process for it! If you're looking for a class to take on color, Robert Kondo and Dice Tsusumi's Color and Light class on Schoolism is a GAMECHANGER!! It was super helpful in building my value, color, and light skills! 💛
