  • Steve Blackman is asked about Dan Severn shooting on wrestlers in the Royal Rumble and if he could have pulled it off. Stream New Shoot Interviews 📺 TitleMatchNetwo...
Steve talks about what would happen if Dan "The Beast" Severn went off script and started legitimately shooting on other wrestlers in the Royal Rumble. Severn made the claim in an earlier interview that he was serisouly considering it in the 1999 Rumble and going to WCW afterwards.
Blackman says he himself wouldn't have backed down to Dan and neither would Ken Shamrock or even the Undertaker, however it could have been done if Severn entered later on with a different set of wrestlers.

His point in he can only shoot on one person. He would get thrown out pretty quick unless he was in the final four but I don't think they are putting Dan a that point in the final four.

The reason for this was because Vince wanted Dan to be a part of Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness and write ''666'' across his forehead. Dan did not want to do that, and he was told by someone else that they could start making him lose matches for refusing this offer. Then he said what he said about the royal rumble and eventually they parted ways.

Wrestling, Kickboxing, and Jiu Jitsu technique all depend on their being only one opponent. Once there's more than one, and the other can take free shots at you while you're grappling the first, all that technique goes out the window. Vince would just send down two big guys and Dan would be sent out of the ring, or to the hospital, or wherever else. That's why we developed all the social instincts we have, because when people are healthy, one person can't physically dominate a group.

Dan was being squandered with and politicked out of the WWF by the usual suspects, everyone's thinking business first so he probably thought it'd be a great way to get some notoriety as an MMA guy in the wrestling business for heat.
He ended up making the right decision though since, 1: the other wrestlers would've caught on and together murdered him, 2: no-one in WCW would've wanted to work with him since he'd have shown himself to be untrustworthy in the ring, and 3: Bischoff didn't capitalise on Bret Hart and he was the easiest shoot situation to get a win over Vince with - WCW's incompetence would never have worked in Dan's favour.

The marks on here crack me up. The only person who would have had a chance against Dan was shamrock. The other guys are tough but none of the other guys are trained fighters. Dan and Ken did more fighting in a weeks worth of sparring than any of the other wrestlers would do in a lifetime and before anyone mentions Haku or taker or Blackman if they were so bad ass then why didn’t they enter ufc or actually compete? One ufc victory they would have made much more money than a years worth of wwe wrestling and it’s actually less wear and tear on the body. Btw don’t give me the old “haku would have ripped their eye ball out or bit them and the ufc has rules “. U don’t think Dan or Ken could bite someone or gouge eyes when they have them in a mount they cannot get out from it. I also know people will say all Dan could do was wrestle while So and so can box. It’s so much harder to knock someone out with one punch than it is to shoot a double leg and take someone down. Even the greatest boxers hardly ever knock anyone out with their first punch. If they don’t land that first punch guess where they will be…..on their back getting mauled. You marks crack me up.

"One ufc victory they would have made much more money than a years worth of wwe wrestling" so wrong... in 1999 the ufc was small and the payment was not good at all... even a guy like Liddell had a hard time to earn his money as a top draw and that was many years later...

@@TheTracepyott pretty sure Haku maked a lot more money in WWF pre '95. i mean, even Sandman got 100k+ in WCW just for sitting on his butt in '99. why take the risk when you have a better job to do with secure income
(sure 50k a night sounds good IF you win All fights) not everyone fights just for a six-pack of beer like mark hunt did xD
and yes to be a good athlet or (very) tough guy makes you not a (good) pro fighter, i know that,
beside that Haku was already "too old" and Blackman came back from heavy health issues, ship had sailed anyway

No, you don’t all have the same skills. Dan has taken down and beaten far more qualified strikers than Steve Blackman.
Zero professional fights, zero amateur fights. Record on sherdog and tapology 0-0-0. He’s a typical gym fighter, trains and spars, has some tough training sessions and street fights against nobodies but never steps in to the ring against real competition.
Sure he’s a bad ass compared to 99.9% of people but he needs to show Dan Severn more respect, life long drug free and well past his prime when he got in to MMA. Dan’s a legend

I don’t think he said anything disrespectful towards Dan. Dan would beat any of them one vs one sure but if 3 or 4 guys are in there he doesn’t stand a chance…

Agreed. He didn't say anything bad at all about Dan.
