Awesome tank. I was always against bare bottoms but lately I like the idea because how much crap is under those rocks that cannot be accessible to clean..
It's interesting to see lighting choices, about 5k worth of lighting above that tank, it's an area that has definitely gotten more expensive. I see many people running their leds at 50% or less, when maybe some 26s or primes spread out but running at near 100% could get better coverage and value. All personal choice and money of course. I'm jealous and would love all those lights :)
There’s definitely something to be said for a larger number of smaller lights to increase spread. One of our client’s tanks that we will video soon has 14 Hydra 26s over 3000L. Whilst most people would have used the 52s, this tank has great light penetration and spread. For me it just comes down to the exact dimensions of the tank, as well as the budget. Cam
Have you ever tried vibrant or any other hair algae remover? I've been having issues with an algae after a year and a half of tank maturity. Scrubbing rock, less feedings, and lower light have not helped. 0tds water of course.
I’ve used Vibrant for bubble algae, and fluconazole for Bryopsis. Most other green algae’s I find are controllable through attention to your parameters and a balanced cleanup crew. Cam
Darryn Schneider we would certainly advocate to remove all Asterina starfish as they are discovered, just in case. The coral health is our top priority. There are plenty of beautiful Reef tanks out there in which Asterina turn up on occasion and tbh we have never really seen any noticeable damage when they are found.
Hi. So i watched alot of your videos online and on my phone and i noticed you actually don't clean the tanks that you maintain. All you do is remove some rubbish and install it back again. Like when you were cleaning some filter socks or pads instead of running them under clean water you cleaned them in the dirty aquarium water that you pulled out. I mean if it was my reef tank i would not be happy. Clean it good and all the way. I mean i can go on and on cause you've done it quite a bit but ill stop here. I just dont think its PROFESSIONAL.
Biological media utilises bacteria that processes organics in the system. This bacteria multiplies forming “bacterial silt” that clogs the media. The idea of rinsing media in “dirty” aquarium water is to remove the bacterial silt to allow water to properly pass through it. If the media is cleaned too thoroughly (ie in freshwater, hot water etc) the media is sterilised (killing all the bacteria) and can cause disruption to the biological stability of the tank. Therefore cleaning too thoroughly is counterproductive. Thanks for watching. Cam
@@GalleryAquaticaTV thx for the reply. In my opinion. I think it wouldn't affect it that much. It won't even make a bleep on the system. Especially if you rinse in fresh mixed saltwater. Ty tho.
I really enjoy watching your maintenance videos, I learn various tips of how doing it.
