I was diagnosed with GD and honestly I was surprised. I was always normal weight and I gained a normal amount of weight in pregnancy, I felt great in my pregnancy…did not have any nausea, had a quite big appetite, I was thirsty but I’m not sure if more than usual and I was tired, but most days I could be productive, so not overly tired. The only symptom I had was that my baby was growing at a faster rate than most babies, so that is why they tested me. I kept wondering if I did something wrong the same…and looking back, I did make some mistakes - I did not exercised regularly or enough…I did eat some sweets, and I ate a lot of fruits and smoothies and fruit juices. I don’t know if I got GD because of that or it just happened for me…

Gestational diabetes isn't caused by eating sugary foods. There's more about the causes and risk factors for GD on our website here that we hope you will find useful: www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/gestational-diabetes/causes

just an FYI, GD doesn't happen based off anything YOU'VE done. Basically if your placenta and pancreas don't play nice together it causes it. Hopefully yours is gone now though and you have no problems!? :)

I am also having the same issue. My doctor first recommended me to control diet and check blood sugar level. In first week my fasting sugar level was not in control so my doc recommended me insulin. I wanted to control with diet and from second weeks onwards my fasting blood sugar level started getting good. Only one day my fasting was 95 mg/dl. Then also my doctor is pressuring me to take insulin. I am very confused and also stressed out what to do.
Is taking insulin really important? Or with diet control it can work?

@@ss_4237_ss I thought your fasting had to be 95 or under (i could be wrong) mines usually 83-93 fasting, but i get like 95-100 for lunch and around 110 for dinner. I feel like if your other numbers are good they wouldn't do insulin, but always good to check with your dr!
