Why is it safe for our blood sugar level to be under 140 an hour after a meal but dangerous if it's over 95 when fasted? For e.g if my level is 120 after a meal that's good but if it's before a meal it's not. Are high fasting levels (over 95 but under 140) dangerous to the baby?
thats because after meals your blood sugar is supposed to rise ,since you consumed carbs which then turn into glucose. But your body not being able to bring sugar down after fasting is problematic
@@areejzeeshan4575 Thanks for your response. Perhaps you could answer another question I have lol. I've just had natural yougurt, fruit and nuts and my blood sugar was 157 30 mins after eating. Then it came back down to 138. Is it normal for the spike to happen that early on? Does the level at 30 mins count or only 1 hour?
When you take a meal, your body processes your meal then sends signals to your pancreas and the pancreas releases this insulin that sweep the excess glucose into where it will be stored and this process takes about less than an hour… so when you check your blood sugar levels within 1hr of eating it’s going to be high because the excess glucose has not been stored in the in the various reserves. And there is a range that you are meant to have circulating glucose, once that range is being exceeded then this is an indicator of an individual having GDM… bottom line the 1hr is more reliable than the 30mins. 😊
I wish you would have talked about the pathophysiology of insulin sensitivity at each trimester of the pregnancy. It seems to be a big topic area for Saunders. Thanks! You da best :)
You’re too good thx 4 u it makes sense, don’t be nervous 😥😥love u keep going
great video you really simplified such a big topic and made it understandable.
Great job breaking this topic down!
Thank you so much for your video
My exam is tomorrow now I understand GDM pathophysiology
Thankyou very much for this video !
I believe with GDM blood sugars are done 1 hr postprandially instead of the standard 15min prior or right at meal time for those with chronic DM.
Fantastic video!
Great overview. Helped with my midwifery assignment.
Thanks... completely comprehended the pathophysiology. 💯
Yes!!! Thats amazing! Keep up the hard work learning and studying!
You are amazing!!!
