It turns out that none of my friends, nor myself for that matter, has ever visited a Golden Corral before. Well, that is about to change and we'll put this iconic restaurant to the test. Is the fried chicken and fried shrimp really that good? Should we avoid the pot roast as some reviewers have suggested? I intend to find out...the only way I know how. Thank you for joining me!

I am an American and I would never eat there again. I made the mistake of eating there, once. The quality of food and variety of items, pretty much sucks. I bet you'll never go back there! LOL!
I admire any man who delays dessert to make room for a stuffed baked potato. Way to go Tim!
i havn't been to Goden Corrall since i was a kid, i used to go to old country buffet with my grand parents almost every weekend...i remember when i was about 11(2007), we got up super early and went to target and my grandma bought me and my brother and sister a Nintendo Wii, the last one in stock, then we went to the buffet...it was a great day

So nice to hear a story so similar to the stories my parents used to tell,(and me, too) except your memory has crossed into the childhood of my children and the toys they loved(Nintendo, Transformers, ..along with restaurants that may not have existed when my parents(or even myself) were young!! Hope you have the same experience when your kids and grandkids come along.. 🌿

Before the Pandemic, we went for the senior early-bird special. Just the fried chicken and salad bar. So good. Golden Corral never gets the credit that it deserves.
The fried chicken is amazing and it’s something that you would likely not do at home because of how much work and messes involved. Really enjoyed it and it was unanimous around the table.
I loved hearing the cook call the buffet a smorgasbord. That's what we called it growing up. Great review Tim!
Yes - smorgasbord. There was a very nice nice place called the Lakeview Smorgasbord. Very beautiful. Very big. Huge banquet halls for weddings and restaurant rooms for a small corporate dinner. Grand piano, art room with fantastic oil paintings. Place was impressive. And grand at any age or time.

I feel like American viewers will never understand the whimsy of the Golden Corral.. Here in Canada we just have nothing to compare to such a well priced, bountiful, gem! When I get my license I can SO see myself taking a page from your book and making a journey over the boarder to try for myself!! 😂🙌💕

When I lived in Houston, Golden Corral was one of my favorites. I went once a week. After moving to the Bay Area, there is no Golden Corral here. I really missed it
Yeah, the good old buffets are far and few between. I was happy to find one here in Washington state
Never try GC but love Hometown buffet. The is GC in Concord. Will try soon.
I was also about to say there’s most certainly a Golden Corral here. It’s in Concord in the same parking lot as our Seafood City. I think it’s probably the only GC in the Bay Area though.

It was a real pleasure getting to take the little ones out for their first buffet.
I was in a GC only once in my life. It was in Orlando and children were running about putting their hands into the food. It disgusted me so much I didn’t not eat anything and did not return. I must admit that your review provided a different experience. The pot roast and fried chicken and baked potatoes looked pretty good. Thank you for sharing and like some others I was pleased you got to try different potato dishes!
I know! It’s interesting because I’ve noticed a lot of places have gotten rid of the chocolate fountains for that exact reason. I’ve seen many people, young and old use their fingers to put the fruits on the skewer and dip it into the fountain.
Golden Corral's official policy is that kids under ten are not allowed to be in line alone. Under-tens must have their food served for them by an accompanying adult. Unfortunately, this is difficult to monitor, and the parents don't like to be told what to do. Causes tension sometimes! But every parent with younger kids is supposed to be told when they come in: "Sorry, but these kids need to be with an adult when they're in line."

To be fair to GC on pricing, there is a $6.10 difference on Lunch v Dinner on weekdays. The $0.50 savings difference is the Sat pricing (and Sun pricing is basically dinner the whole day).
Yeah, that’s very true. I think they were offering steaks and only fantastic roast the whole day during the weekend.
I'm always happy to see a new Tim Lee video! I've never thought 🤔 about going to a buffet just before dinner to get the lunch price. Great idea. I can't eat much and it would be closer to a fair price.
Go there on Sunday morning for breakfast just before 11am and stay for dinner (Sunday dinner starts at 11am)

I disagree about the pot roast. The pit roast with potatoes, carrots and onions in gravy is quite good if it is fresh. I don't really like the carved roast beef though -- too fatty, too tough and too dry

His robot-like voice is cutting right through us. That’s the nicest Golden Corral buffet we’ve ever seen. Went to one and it was awful. They were super slow to refill the trays of food and what they did have was cold and quite lack luster. Tim makes out great! Enjoy

I gotta say this is a welcome review of a guilty pleasure. Last time I went to a chain buffet was 40 years ago with my grandparents. But a part of me really misses them. Anyone remember Kings Table? Maybe it is nostalgia? 😂

My personal favorites - onion rings, tater tots, potato chips, pot roast, pulled pork - it seems that sometimes I would be served a sub-prime portion of a chuck steak which is quite tender. In some LA locations there use to be a taco station.
We call them potato gems here but I love how you call them tater tots so I’m calling them that for now on 😂
Unfortunately, the Golden Corral in our area is smaller and offers much less. I went once and have not been back because tables were not cleared quickly or clean, and floors were slippery. Most items were low cost starchy dishes and overcooked vegetables, and when they put out a more expensive item, a few people grabbed it all and there seemed to be a required time delay before they were allowed to replenish them. Then, the same thing happened again. Also, they told people to go get a drink without telling them there was an extra charge and at that time, there was a charge for refills.
I finally went to GC. I left without eating. Food tables were run through. Little left & quite messy food bars. I thought there was a larger variety of food. From what I've seen on RUclips anyway. I guess my local GC has less food? It was 45 minutes before closing.
@@stevewashere4122 The late hour may have been the problem because they are reluctant to replenish just before closing. But I went during normal lunch hours and it was pretty much the same.

I am 100% with Theo's buffet strategy! That's what i try to do normally with buffets. Have my meals, end it with desert for round 1, "rinse and repeat". That way i don't miss out on the desert section. Which i normally do with buffets. Or i don't get enough of it.

Hi Tim! Where I live in Evansville, IN in the Ohio Valley our Golden Corral on the eastside is very good. Food is excellent. Steaks, pot roast, fried chicken really good, fried shrimp fried catfish, pork, taco station, ,etc. mac-n-cheese, green beans, corn, potato salad, banana pudding, chocolate pudding, all the pies, cakes. Live Golden Corral
The fried catfish was a very pleasant surprise. Really enjoyed that.
Have never seen anyone enjoy something as simple as a grilled cheese but instead of tomato soup, he dips the sandwich into a New England style clam chowder!! Yum. Fantastic idea Tim Lee!!

Never thought I’d see Tim at a Golden Corral. I wish they would change up their menu. I feel like they’ve had the same things on the buffet for years.
It was the first time there and ready enjoyable. I’ve been seen many other dishes mentions here in the comments at other GCs Would be interesting to see what ask the differences are
I only went to GC twice. Food was ok. Fried chicken and mashed potatoes, meatloaf and vegs was all I got. Carrot cake was good too.
Now I loved Old Country Buffet. I'd go there once a week when in college. Price was cheap and a lot of food. Missed that place.
I remember when I was in college, we used to love buffets because it’s quite affordable and tasty. We could eat a lot back then.
I was at my local Golden Corral for lunch a few days ago. It's not too bad and I think it's worth the price. The fried chicken and cheddar broccoli soup is almost always my go to items. The pot roast it's hit or miss with me and when I went, it was good

Another good review of a family style buffet. I went to a Golden Corral in Southern California and they served deep fried chicken liver which was very delicious.

The Old Country Buffet and New China Buffet here in Phoenix were my favorites. Both went out of business. The Old Country Buffet had the BEST breakfasts and the New China Buffet always had lots of fish done every way possible.

That looked quite tasty, Tim. I'd go heavy on the fish, cauliflower, and okra. I always liked the Golden Corral but it's not too popular where I live in Pennsylvania.

Tim, I think Albert gave some good advice to come early, if not for the price, then for being able to get a seat for a party of 5. @ 38:17 it looks very crowded with seating at a premium as your camera pans around the room. I don't know how to spell the name of the young lady, but you can tell that she is definitely a lovely dinner companion, very friendly with a pleasant, upbeat personality !!

Excellent video. I've been to the Golden Corral in Henderson about 20 minutes from the Las Vegas strip. I found it to be my second favorite only surpassed by the Southpoint Garden Buffet Monday thru Thursday prime rib dinner buffet.
Some seem to be more equal than others. Most of them have closed in Central Florida. But Golden Corral is our last affordable buffet style cafeteria. I hope it survives.

It was a very nice experience. First time there and really great to see the servers and cooks taking pride in what they do!
Spent many summers in Iowa. It was Golden Corral or Ponderosa Steakhouse. I am always excited to go to Golden Corral.
It depends which Golden Corral you to to. We have 2 within 15 minutes of our home. One is consistently bad, the other is always good. If I want to eat steak, this is our go to. It's the only buffet where I eat salad because they always keep it so cold. Add a couple steaks,a piece of fried chicken, and a few fried shrimp, and I'm a happy camper. Lunch here is only about $12.
So cool you checked them out. Have been going to GC since i was a teen. It depends on where ya go on the food. Some are spot on and others are blahhhh. You totally need to check out the weekend breakfast buffet yummm.

A friend of mine from Bermuda would always love to go to Golden Corral when he was visiting in the States. It is a very good variety and it is so good. I did love their fried chicken and their yeast rolls and of course the desserts. It is really hard to find a good buffet now. I am really hungry now since seeing you eat all of that amazing food.

Depends what time you go. Food is always the best during switch over or when they open for lunch. Food is stale most other times.

There is a reason why there's many many locations.... the food is cheap, and serviceable... it's not anywhere close to being very good or great. It's like saying let's go to Subway for a sandwich.

The GC has an Early BIrd Senior (60+) dinner starting at 4 PM. You get a drink added on. It's around $10 Monday through Friday. The food is okay, don't go in thinking it's fine dining. Different locations my vary the price. Thanks, Tim. Another great review.

We have a Golden Corral we’re I’m located at in PA people say they can’t stand there food but I want to give it a try because there’s no real buffet style food out there for less than 20$ anymore
It’s interesting because I’ve been reading comments on this video. It appears some golden corral are great. Well some are less than desirable. If done right it’s a great place.
I just get the steak, mashed potatoes, and corn. It’s always good. The pot roast here in Texas is good.
I got a chance to visit Texas and really enjoyed the great food there! Very hearty portions and great hospitality
I love Golden Corral, but haven't been in awhile. Did you just eat pork that wasn't cooked all the way? 🤨 Also, if you use the cheddar sauce they have for the steamed broccoli, with the mac and cheese, excellent!
i take food and re cook it if needed and real hot make a good meat loaf w out the sugar and heat on pan
My wife loves GC, to me it’s just OK, love the fried chicken and the mini burgers.
Given the price, it is a good deal. I don’t think I can purchase a fried chicken meal at KFC in Canada for under $20.
America's favorite buffet? It's kind of America's only buffet at this point. American buffets were going out of business even before the pandemic. Golden Corral is really the only major buffet chain that returned. They pretty much win by default.
I used to go to a place called old country buffet. Really enjoyed it and unfortunately it’s no longer here.
