Please don't omit the MNF intros w/ the awesome music score if at all possible. One of the best parts of the old MNF. The cherry on top of the cake.

What I post is what I have. A lot of old broadcasts have crazy cuts and edits due to time constraints and costs of tapes at that time.

Back some 44 years ago, the final MNF football game of the year had big playoff implications. Without being "flexed" in. Yet, I am glad they choose to change games today.

What an exciting time that was to be a Charger fan. Damn Howard Slusher. He single handedly wrecked the club. Still believe the 9ers got the Chargers Super Bowl titles.

The only NFL teams not to make the playoffs even once in the 1970s were the Giants, Jets, Saints, and Seahawks (who started play in 1976 and first made the playoffs in 1983).

Broncos QB, Craig Morton, played in Super bowl 5 and 12. In super bowl 5 he was the starting QB for the Cowboys when they went up against the Baltimore Colts (Baltimore would win Super bowl 5 over the Cowboys 16-13). Morton had a terrible performance in Super bowl 5, but his performance in Super bowl 12 was even more horrendous. In Super bowl 12, against the Cowboys, Morton threw 4 interceptions in the 1st half. The Broncos head coach yanked Morton in the second half. The Broncos had 8 turnovers in Super bowl 12. They lost to the Cowboys, 27-10. Loved seeing the Cowboys beat up the Broncos in Super bowl 12. Dont feel bad for Morton, he got his Super bowl ring in Super bowl 6 when the Cowboys beat the Dolphins 24-3. The only thing, is Roger Staubach was the starting QB, not Morton.

Chargers defense went downhill when Fred Dean left the Chargers. He wanted more money and the owner (GENE KLIEN) said no. Soon after his departure they would lose Gary Johnson, Louie Kelcher. All 3 were defensive lineman. There went thier pass rush, and there wentthe ability to stop the run.

Lambert was better than Gradishar, not even any question about it.

Lambert was one of the best defensive players ever ...however that doesn't mean Gradishar didn't perform at a HoF level, which he did.

Gradishar did what Lambert did without the Steel Curtain in front of him. Randy was just as effective. Why down Randy too make you feel better? Randy is a HOFer too.

Chargers crushed Steelers 35-7. Crushed Rams 40-21. Chargers would Choke to a Gifford Neilson in playoffs against Oilers. What's a Gifford Neilson? Last game against Oilers in week 16 1978 they crushed Oilers at Houston 45-24. As a young teen this team was a royal disappointment 1979-82. That cheapskate owner Gene Klein was not much help either. Only Bills fans could feel worse. 1990-93. In earlier game that year Chargers kicker Roy Gerala the Pittsburgh reject. Missed 3 cheap shot field goals. Would have been 9-7 Chargers. But Alas!

Ironically had the Chargers lost this Denver game they would have faced Houston in the AFC Wild Card Game

Giff Nielsen is a terrific human being, a very nice man. He was the CBS affiliate (Channel 11) sports anchor in Houston for many years after his career ended. He and Todd Christianson led BYU to a 9-3 record in his junior year. He got hurt his senior year, and Marc Wilson and Jim McMahon filled in for him.
He played very well against the San Diego Chokers in the 1979 playoffs, and Vernon Perry showed Dan Fouts how defense is supposed to be played.
Why Dan "the Turnover Machine" Fouts got into the HOF is beyond me. He never won a big game, and they usually lost because he choked. All those yards between the 20's he gained were wasted by his hundreds of INTs and fumbles. Fouts is the most overrated QB in history.
What is a Gifford Nielsen? He's Dan Fouts' DADDY, that's what he is.

@@comfortat So he was better than Dan Pastorini, Ken Stabler in his old age and much better than the best Choker of all time. Warren Moon. That guy couldn't even make it to the AFC championship once. I would like to welcome all you Oiler fans watching this program on your new T.V. sets. The reason I say that is because you probably went out and bought a new one after you kicked in the old one. (The late Len Dawson) on Inside the NFL with the late Nick Bunnoconti HBO Jan-1993. First thing he said after divisional playoff highlights when Houston wsa ahead 38-3. Lost to Buffalo 41-38 overtime. Sticks in my head to this day. Bud Adams was another cheap SOB that never cared about his loyal fanbase. Kinda like Al Davis. That's why I don't watch modern football anymore. Ugly U.S.F.L. Trump arena underwear and helmets. Cheap billionaire owners who want poor cities to pay for their palace stadiums. Fathead overpayed players who only care about themselves and wouldn't survive 3 weeks in 60s-70s or 80s. No Walter Paytons, Joe Montanas or Franco Harris. Have not watched NFL since 2009. What's a Warren Moon?

As a young fan of similar age, who attended both those games, I thought the Chargers would have a shot at the Super Bowl XIV this year, once the Oilers were hampered by those injuries for that Playoff game. The Houston code breaking coaches, Gifford Neilson and Vernon Perry thought different.
