I absolutely love the car, it's comfortable on a long drive, quick enough for a bit of brisk over taking, handles pretty nicely, down the lanes, although it doesn't much like the pot holes we have down here in the South, even on the standard 17's, it's a bit crashy, the real-ish issue was the normal rear light earth problems, which I fixed with some extra earth leads to a near by earth point after watching a YT video, no more real light issues after 2 years. Overall I'd highly recommend a Tdi TT, even over the 225 Mk1 TT Quattro I had previously, which drank petrol at an alarming rate driven across Europe and back, also the cost of taxing it was over £300 at the time, and on these $hite roads we are forced to drive on I feel is too expensive when my Mk2 Tdi is now just £155 p.a. Sadly I think VAG cars have suffered from cost cutting, yet the Koreans have vastly improved their's I still wouldn't buy one. The main reason is a 5 year old Golf, Astra and Focus still resemble a new car, where as say a Kia Ceed/Hyundai I30 look like they designed them decades ago.

I have the same car but a 2011. One issue I have is the rear suspension arms are rusty and one has a hole in!! Can’t believe it for an Audi. I have also had the Hadley pump go.
Thanks Andrew, great detailed ‘tryue to life’ ownership review, always liked the TT, test drove a Mk1 but went for a Mk5 Gti (thankfully!). Sure you’ll have no problem shifting this one.
Thanks. This is a great guide. Really helped in getting to those 'what to look out for' signs. I did think you were going to come down on a particular model / yr however? It feels like the later the better? Petrol? 2.0lt? Thanks!
My 2012 golf GTD had the same brake squeal and burnt smell in this cold spell. And the pad had dislodged slightly out of position after being on for 2 years. The pad had worn down to the bare metal. So replaced the pad and could hear the brake grinding for a few hundred miles because it was squaring the disc wear back up ( in hindsight we should've squared the wear up slightly before putting the pad on) but fine now. Didn't fit the anti rattle shim this time as it's extremely tight for some reason and may have contributed to forcing the pad out of position. A set of brembo pads £18 🤣 for the rear. (Brembos all round), the passenger side still had plenty of meat on pad and didn't have the squeal but have replaced anyway
Thanks Andrew, this was really informative. Im purchasing a 2011 sline but not quattro. From your video, did you say these earlier years had timing chain issues? Apologies if i misunderstood
Hi Andrew, if it rattles with a clicking noise from cold start. But when driven for a bit dissappears. Is this the issue you were inferring to on the 2011 chain issue?
Hi Andrew. Great video. Would you say that the ŠKODA octavia 2013 year Vrs 2.0 tsi engine is also reliable? Its 220bhp version...I am after this car and just not sure about this engine.? As my only car which has to do everything I can't find another vehicle which would do. Also I like the Scirocco. Thank you for any info😉
I had an APR performance chipped 2013 Vrs Octavia (193kw or 258bhp) as a daily for about 9 years and also tracked it and it was very reliable. Now into a Golf R mk7. TT is prettier though.
On my 2018 GTI I got a letter in the mail from VW stating that if I had changed the water pump out of pocket, I would be eligible to be reimbursed. I haven't had to charged it yet. Sitting at about 70k miles.
Interesting video again I traded my up gti in last year after your comparison video i went for newest one i could get does the 2018 model suffer from cooling leaks and thermostat and if so do you recommend an aftermarket solution or does audi vw already have a better one on a different model don't want stung with big bills i knew quattro would be more expensive but i had to get one atleast
Coil packs are annoying but replace with OEM supplier non-genuine parts and they are cheap and durable and access is good unlike say on a Boxster/Cayman/911. Only issue with Mk2 TTS is the EA113 engine which needs cambelts and is a bit thirsty. I'd only swap this one for a TT RS as the 5 banger is better on fuel than TTS!

I wish you wouldn’t do these videos Andrew. I’ve been all set to push the button on an Abarth 595 but as soon as I saw your video I was onto Autotrader looking for a Mk 2 TT…
Done exactly the same thing Huw. I've had 3 Mk1 TT's two 3.2 & one 225. There should be a support group for guys like me who can't get over selling their cherished TT.
That’s my favorite body style of the TT. My friend had a TTRS of the same year and that car was insanely bonkers! I know I don’t gotta tell you that though! It’s always been a pseudo-dream car of mine but the thought of repairs and whatnot has kept me away but if I wasn’t in the States I’d buy that TT off of you!
Great video Andrew and glad Kate has enjoyed the car - sad to see it go after renewed faith in Audi as like all German cars maintenance expensive (less so with your skill set) however the mk2 TT if you get a well maintained one is a great car. Hope the next car isn’t losing fun for practicality as the RS6 shows you can have both :) albeit not necessarily cheaply but life’s too short to drive appliances 😂🎉
Thanks for the video Andrew. Very relevant as you’ll remember me purchasing an exact same model (in Red) from you in Nov ‘21. Have done around 9k in that time and the car has been ‘almost’ faultless (I had the problem with rear lights blowing due to Earth connections - a common problem I believe). Just regular servicing has kept everything tip-top. I can obtain high 30’s mpg - but that really is steady motorway driving. Very impressed with car overall though and it still looks great among newer stuff on the roads. 👍
Great video bro! Do you still have the b7 rs4? I’ve got a 49k TT quattro sport thinking of making the move. Any tips? Everyone says keep hold of TT but it’s one or another
Thanks! No, sold the RS4 for a 911 in 2012. Sold a few since. There are some videos on B7 RS4s from a few years ago when I sold my friend's Nogaro blue Avant, only one in the UK. Good car but you need to be very careful as a lot of shite out there. I do crave for another one but end up looking at RS4 cabrios as they aren't all mullered. I am sure you will find one and yes you should definitely do it :)
You made my day saying the 2wd model is the better option, i have found it a great car to live with and simple to service and work on. Did the caliper change on the front and few electrical niggles but mines a 2008 roadster model with 110000 so no surprises there.
Glad yours has been largely reliable. I wouldn't buy the AWD one again but there were loads of these 2.0 TFSI S tronic quattros registered late in the run and they are a nice car - but better with front wheel drive I think - less is more!

A good video - like you said, it's very rare to see long term reviews on older cars. I wouldn't disagree about the paint finish on Mk7/7.5 Golfs! My 7.5 R estate in lapiz blue (how predictable 🤣) seems to have picked up quite a few marks (at least one of which is due to seagulls - my work car park is bad for that), definitely could do with a machine polish & ceramic coating, I think. My old Night Blue Mk7 GTD seemed to have better quality paint. Haldex issues are definitely something I'm aware of too - think my R is due a Haldex oil change this year (20 plate), won't skimp on that.
10:00 In terms of servicing in theory a timing chain is better, but VAG don't have the greatest of reputations with this series of engines and the quality of the timing chain components. Am I right in thinking the TTS continued to use a timing belt beyond 2011?
Yep Mk2 TTS was always EA113 as there was no high output EA888 available until 2013 for 8V S3 (and then Golf R). Scirocco R continued to use EA113 until it was deleted in around 2018. No timing belt and far better mpg make an EA888 a much easier engine to live with unless you have to pay £1000+ for a new coolant/thermostat module of course on a Gen 4 EA888.
Hi Andrew such a great video and have always admired the TT and have enjoyed my rides in my work colleagues series 2 and 3! Glad to hear that it has been a good car for you on the whole and it still looks fabulous you would have thought it was half that age! I bet Kate will be sad to see it go but understand her reasons and I went through something similar a few years ago looking forward to see what she replaces it with! Hope it goes to a lovely new home Daniel
Glad it was helpful! I still have a lot of respect for the Mk2 and stand by any comments I might have made about it being better than the Mk3 - the Mk3 is a little sharper in the chassis but doubt many owners will feel the benefit, in pretty much every other way, it's a backwards step.
hey what about the cam follower? also have a 2011 sline black edition, im worried about the timing chain however i have checked ecu measurements and its within tolerance
I've not heard that is an issue with EA888, it was hyped up on EA113 anyway. 2011 chain could be ok, listen for start up rattle as newer ones don't do that. Not checked tolerance with vcds on these (R32 usually) so good tip thanks
Great video l had an TT 2013 really reliable, but just felt a bit dry / boring the car had no character. love the looks nothing looks that good l just didn’t feel it was a drives car not like the mk5 GTI l brought before the TT so I was a bit disappointed maybe the TTS might be better to drive or TT RS might be better to drive again l can’t comment never owned one can anyone else comment?

Hi Darren, nice to see you again sir! Yes the Mk2 GTI brightens up my otherwise dull life. It's so nice to work on because I learned to tinker with those then had to up my game for Mk4 which needed loads of tinkering but was much more complicated. Going back to Mk2s after that is sheer bliss! No current plans to get into sales like before as the market is still all over the place and economic forecast uncertain. Quite enjoying having a modest lifestyle and appreciating the simpler things though not sure I can sustain this indefinitely.
Top video as always. My friend had just bought a 2 owner TT Quattro on an 03 plate. Lovely car. I'll make sure he becomes another subscriber as the comments here should cheer him up 😂
Thanks Tony. 2003 is a Mk1 TT and to be totally honest, they can be an utter nightmare when it comes to electrical issues. However hopefully a 2003 will have been through most of those by now. If I can find a good Mk1 TT I'll buy it to keep as so cheap and can only go one way pricewise. They sold too many back in the day so the sheer volume keeps prices high but that won't be the case forever.
Thanks! I need to find a replacement first and prices are still too much in the areas I am looking at. Yes the TT will go down a bit too but the cars I am looking at are more than they were in 2020 so have to drop soon. I'd imagine it will be £10k ish if things don't change too much. I'm just going by Autotrader's valuation for now which can't be trusted 100%

7.5R is OK but 2 inherent issues, coolant leak and Haldex - all manageable if you don't pay main dealer rates - there is something very wrong about paying their inflated rates to fix things that shouldn't have gone wrong. Better add clutches to that on the manuals too. £2500 there easy.

Thanks Andrew, great detailed ‘tryue to life’ ownership review, always liked the TT, test drove a Mk1 but went for a Mk5 Gti (thankfully!). Sure you’ll have no problem shifting this one.
Glad you enjoyed it Sparky. Mk5 certainly isn't a wrong choice :)
Thanks. This is a great guide. Really helped in getting to those 'what to look out for' signs. I did think you were going to come down on a particular model / yr however? It feels like the later the better? Petrol? 2.0lt? Thanks!
I like the EA888 2.0T as it’s nearly diesel efficient but watch those chains
Yes, beware, 2011 could be good or bad. Listen for rattle on start up especially from hot
All same engines shared such as the gti
Thanks! Yes 2013 should be OK
Really? Are you in the UK? They are talking class action in the US and UK doesn't tend to get better treatment
I had one, a 2.0 TFSI. I sold it for a BMW. I want one again, even though it was constantly spitting out coil packs.Hard to find a TTS though.
Good video enjoyed it. but you can't say it's one of the most powerful models when it's the 4th most powerful model lol
We’ve had our Quattro sline Tt for 7 years… great little car. Looking to change the front bearings, not sure how big a job it is.. any help or links to a video would be a massive help 👍
Those are the most gorgeous rims!
REALLY enjoyed the review, I m thinking of getting a MK1 convertible at the moment, so as much info is GREAT! Keep up the good work, LOVE your golf in the background 👍🏻
I love the mk2 tt...i think its a perfect second car.
I wish you wouldn’t do these videos Andrew. I’ve been all set to push the button on an Abarth 595 but as soon as I saw your video I was onto Autotrader looking for a Mk 2 TT…
Sorry Huw! Very different cars but a late low mileage Mk2 TT is in a different league, just watch the spec as not all as well equipped as ours
@@volkswizard yes but with two Golfs and a 997 already, I was looking for something a bit different. And Italian 😂
Done exactly the same thing Huw. I've had 3 Mk1 TT's two 3.2 & one 225. There should be a support group for guys like me who can't get over selling their cherished TT.
Very good video, will be looking for more.
Is it still for sale ? Probably too late 😊
The big S Tronic gearbox oil change MUST be done by AUDI imo .I paid £300 last year.
Toronto Canada.... just purchased a 2018 TTS in Black, best car i have ever driven after owning two Mercedes SLK's 🏎🏎
@@volkswizard yes avant £20000 120k on the clock and 8 owners and the prices are flying?!?!
Interesting video, thank you very much really enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it
You made my day saying the 2wd model is the better option, i have found it a great car to live with and simple to service and work on.
In the winter in the UK with these shiny road surfaces my A4 b8.5 avant quattro grip and pull off is way superior than my mj2 TT fwd its spinning up in 1st 2nd and 3rd although I do love the TT
@@volkswizard I’ve got the facelift tdi Quattro I don’t think I could go back to 2 wheel drive if I’m honest. Quattro gets the power down really well in any weather
@@scitec717I’ve got the TT tdi Quattro, as you mention the grip is unreal compared to 2 wheel drive cars. Don’t think I could go back
@@Marc1979nufc lol I don't think you will be able to go back once you've had a taste of Quattro, my 1st was a mk1 TT 10 years back and have always had a Quattro since.
Thanks Andrew. There will definitely be more in the future👍
Thanks for the info Dude, very informative, very interesting, and very welcome.
Regards
Thanks Martin, glad this video's usefulness endures, must do more of these. We still own this car and it's been brilliant.
I'm looking to bye one of these, so thank you for such a for a brilliant review, one of the best I've watched. 👌
Glad it was helpful! I still have a lot of respect for the Mk2 and stand by any comments I might have made about it being better than the Mk3 - the Mk3 is a little sharper in the chassis but doubt many owners will feel the benefit, in pretty much every other way, it's a backwards step.
very nice but we have got are brexit fully did now and time to start show-casing are british cart's.
Your insights are very useful.
Glad to hear that, useful is better than a lot of other videos :)
hey what about the cam follower? also have a 2011 sline black edition, im worried about the timing chain however i have checked ecu measurements and its within tolerance
I've not heard that is an issue with EA888, it was hyped up on EA113 anyway. 2011 chain could be ok, listen for start up rattle as newer ones don't do that. Not checked tolerance with vcds on these (R32 usually) so good tip thanks
@@volkswizard okay thanks a lot, i don’t hear any rattle and i took it to a vw/audi specialist near me and they thought it was fine too
Very useful video clearly explained.
I wish my average speed was 31 mph, shows how empty the roads are in general your wife drives on.
Good spot sir! Having been into Birmingham today I can see why a 30 mph average is so telling :)
thats a nice colour
What’s going to replace the TT?
7.5 GTI Performance 5 dr DSG
really helpful video, thanks!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
can you please tell us about the wheels? are they 19 inches? from which model? thank you
Sure, they are 19 with 255 35 19 tyres and the standard wheel on S line Black Edition
@@volkswizard thank you
Hi still for sale ? Great vid 👌
Good cars and I'm a fan of this engine. I've driven the mk2 and mk3 unfortunately both diesels
Diesel is OK if you do the miles
Great content as always Andrew. Great to see you now owning a MK2 GTI too. Hope you are keeping safe and well. Any plans to return to Volkswizard sales again? All the best.
Will keep an eye out for this one. Looking to replace the convertible TT with a coupe, and pretty local to you 👍
Top video as always.
Thanks for that Andrew. I'll pass your comments on.
Great to see your MK2 in the background 😀 👍
Love the video.. how much was you thinking of selling the car for mate ?
@volkswizard hey.. yeah I totally understand you need a replacement first an that will take time.. been watching your videos you post for some time now.. love the content 👌 hopefully speek soon
Not really a fan of silver cars in general but on this TT generation? Very good looking.
I think Black Edition bits work really well with silver, don't think every Mk2 TT wears it so well.
@@volkswizard 100% with you.
@@volkswizard I think the facelift mk2 TT in s line or black edition look very good, mines the facelift s line in silver. Pre facelift or sport model doesn’t look as good imho
The tax is over £300 just a year later
Hi mom
First again, well done 👏
Timeless looks that model IMO.
Hmmmm, comments therein and comments here..... Got me thinking about longer term reliability on my MY19 7.5 Golf R....🤔😬
@@volkswizard many, many thanks Andrew. Thankfully I have a local, independent mechanic. German chap, in his 70s now. Mercedes Benz apprenticeship in his youth back home. Just does Merc, BMW and VAG. Workshop resembles F1 pit garage, immaculate, nothing out of place. Anyhow nothing beats experience. 👍
@@dasautogt Nice. What’s the name of the workshop?
Great car and don't sell it. There nothing better to replace it with all things being considered. Give her your car and you keep this one.
Well it's still here and no rush to shift it on. I have to see things from the normal person's perspective (i.e. my wife's) and a TT is a much more desirable car than even a Mk7.5 Golf GTI because a) it's an Audi and b) it's a handsome sleek coupe. On that basis it's not going anywhere :)
👍🏾🍷Thanks for sharing Brotha.
Love your RUclips and ig page.....
Hi Andrew, I've sent you an email.. Thanks Darren
