Here's my brand new pre-owned Kawasaki Lakota Sport 300! What do you guys think? How will this stack up against the Blaster, Trail Blazer and 300EX? Thanks for watching my video by the way 🤘 You ROOCK!!!
You better have a warrior when u do a mini top quad
Great bike mike I own blasters and my buddy had a 300 , both those bikes will dominate the Lakota sport 300 there much more aggressive the warrior I still have for my wife is faster then both blaster and 300ex great great bike but I think the 250ex models z250 would stack up better either way can’t wait to see the series man!
Dude i got a Mojave 250 its smaller bro
The lakota has pretty good power but it’s gonna be a tough one against the other three bikes especially if they have the big 3 and same amount of upgrades
The blaster will win drag races with the 300ex nipping at its heels but the over all winner at the end of the day will be the 300ex they are a great rounded machine.
As always Mike, you always killing it with the intros😂
Haha glad you liked it man
Hes a fool LMAOOO I LOVE IT
@@MichaelSabo that's pretty cool laughed my ass off dude
@@MichaelSabo gave me bubbles from trailer park boys vibes lol
@@matthewlittle6940 😂😂
Make a Yamaha warrior 350 restoration 🔥
i second this!
I love the Top Quad series and can't wait for the battle of the mid-range sport quads. It reminds me of the old days when magazines like Dirt Wheels and ATV Sport were a thing. They would always do shootouts between the various quads available back then. Haven't seen anything like that again until you started doing Top Quad 👍👍
Had a 250 Mojave back in the day. Great machine
I got two brand new Lakotas in 1997 and still have them both. They have been rock solid over the years. They are both almost completely original. The only parts that have worn out over the years are the rear tires once, batteries several times, and clutch plates once. They need new chains now though, as they're loose and I'm out of adjustment. Can't argue with that after 26 years! Obviously I've done engine oil/filter and air filter changes.
It's cool seeing you do stuff with the older quads. They just look so right. Maybe we'll see a Tecate 4 someday. Stay awesome bro!
That would be sick! Kinda rare tho. Don't see those very often. Love the pop up headlight.
You can find lots in Michigan. Just all are 5 grand or more
Glad you enjoy it man; I'd love to do a Tecate 4
In your hands it's be cool as gravedigger with some of your badass graphics.
She’s peppy for sure it’s way more fun to ride a slow quad fast then to ride a fast quad slow looking forward to the build 🤘🏽
Couldn't have said it better man
That’s what I miss about mine lol. Slow quad fast vs fast quad slow. I shouldn’t have sold it, got a 400ex now and on my old trails it would have been a blast but the trails we have now would have been perfect for the old lakota.
In 1986 for my 14th birthday my dad got me a brand new Honda fourtrax 200sx. 2.5 inches of suspension, electric start and reverse with a semi automatic 5 speed. Some of my best memories. I feel the same way about the 200sx that you do about the lakota. Nice find my friend!
Awesome story man! Maybe I will get a 200SX to feature in the future
Bought my daughters one of these back in the day and I think I rode it more than them fun little machines.
Haha, that’s awesome!
That’s cool you picked up a Lakota 300. I’ve had two of them. One was a 2002 that picked up for a couple hundred bucks, fixed it up, and flipped it. The other one I still have. It needs a ton of work so it’s been on the backburner for a lil while now. I think it’s either a 2002 or 3. They are a great lil machine. Absolutely great for beginners.
Yours is in such excellent condition. Blows my mind.
I had the same one 15 years ago. I liked it for woods
I bought a brand new Mojave in 1987. Still got it today and she still looks minty fresh. Many inexpensive mods such as opening up the air box, rejecting, and mostly a KLR CDI, really make these run well.
Those Lakota 300s are bulletproof machines. Very fun to have around 👍
Another slept on trail/ sport quad is the LT230 it was sucha good my wife learned clutch pretty easy on that
Something is up with your clutch making it hard to shift and not allowing you to feather the clutch with the shifter. You can do this with all semi autos, they're all basically the same set up with basically a primary clutch and centrifugal clutch. Fun machine! Looking forward to it
Reminds me of a Honda 250 fourtrax I bought my son. Simple electric start with reverse, great first quad and so many extras to add on
I had a Lakota all through middle and highschool its a beast on the trail I gave it pure hell weekly and it never left me stranded! The Lakota should dominate the challenge! Nice buy
This is awesome to hear man! I can't wait to see how it stacks up!
As a kid the Lakota and Mojave were my dream quads. Would be fun to pick one up someday to live out that nostalgia. Nice video man!
Love it. Just picked one of these up about 2 months ago, had been wanting for years for a fun easy trail machine. FYI, a Yamaha raptor/banshee/warrior rear hubs will fit on so you can go to a 4/115 pattern Aluminum wheel , and the front pattern on these is a 4/144 so you can also go the the same model Yamahas front wheel and go to a aluminum front wheel. Then you’ll have a lighter front/rear end and more tire options
How much you pay for it I'm looking at one
It’s awesome to see the less popular quads. Thank you for the little skit in the intro!! Much love from the NW Wa.
Man im so happy u put the blaster in this next series I bought a blaster about 4 years back and I am obsessed with it now and I've owned all types of Two Strokes back in the day and four strokes and I have to say The blaster is one of my favorite now and sick video that little thing looks like so much fun!!!
This is awesome to hear man! I will have plenty of Blaster content coming soon!
I'm doing a 06 blaster right now
I just bought and rebuilt a 96 trail blazer 250 and its gotta be the most simple engine to work on, no tranny or anything, just a crank rod and piston, and it is way faster than i thought it would be, my daughter loves it, this is going to be a fun series for sure.
That's awesome Justin! I'm excited to work with a Trail Blazer for the first time
Awesome to hear you laugh like a little kid, pure enjoyment and all natural fun.great video and idea for a series 👍👏
Thank you Brad, glad you enjoyed it too!
You have to hold the shifter all the way up and drop it. I rode utility quads my whole life until I got a race wheeler earlier this year
Thank you for the tip man! I will test it out
Can’t wait to see this thing in action man! I think the Kendra tires will look sweet on it👌🤘
Pete you’ll be trading your raptor AND YFZ for this thing I’m telling you
My buddy bought one new in like 2000, it was really fun and dependable. We thrashed it for a year but it always ran good. Good ole Lakoter
First 2 quads I ever rode was a Mojave and the bayou with this same engine. Still love riding those things
Classics man!
What a cool powerful tank hahah, kinda crazy the money it takes to get anything above 20hp for a quad but glad it's still supported, can't wait to see what it looks like.
I’m literally sitting on one that my dad bought when I was born. It’s 20 years old now and it still runs. It needs some love, but it still runs.
There was a hole in the block we JB welded it It needs a new chain and a new starter switch. That’s really it.
I really enjoy your videos. Like this older quad video also. Learned a lot from you sir. Thanks for the videos.
My best friend had two when we were kids, I was able to pick one up a few months back and I believe somehow it was the same one he used to own. Excited to see what you do with this because I’m probably going to go the same route with mine 😎
That would be awesome if it actually was the same quad
My daughter rode a Honda 250EX for a few years and loved everything about it except the very stiff rear suspension . A couple years ago I bought her a Lakota 300 because it had longer travel suspension front and rear compared to the Honda . She loves the improved ride and I like the fact that the front end is heavier than the Honda so she is a lot less likely to loop out hillclimbing . It shifts stiff especially when the engine is cold . It was a roach when I bought it . I've done a top end , swingarm bearings , tires , carb work , air filter , rear fender , heated grips , clutch , battery , reinforced the battery hold-down , CDI module , chain and sprockets , and I took your advice and put a nice aftermarket aluminum front bumper from a 400EX on it !
Sounds like a nice little machine you made. From riding both as well, I agree the Lakota has much better suspension. I just may follow suite and make a 400EX bumper fit!
That’s sick! You should do a blaster as your next build
Coming soon man! I'll be getting one ready for this series
On a 250ex if you shift from neutral to first but hold the lever up and you can Rev it and drop it into first and kind of launch. Definitely not a great sound but it works haha
Hi Mike! Amusing intro mate! You're a funny bugger! Lol! Good fun! Looks like you had a real fun time riding that bike from all the laughing you were doing! Good onya!
Any comparisons you do with other bikes oughta be fun too! Glad you found some bits to bolt onto it too. It's all fun fun fun! I had fun!
Hey Neville, glad you enjoyed the intro and the video and I could share the fun with you!
I allways get super stoked when Michael Sabo releases a new video!
Haha!!! I remember wanting one of these, among many other ATV's as a kid/teen. My father did purchase a Honda 300 utility. My friend a Bayou 220 and his brother had a Mojave 250. My cousin had a 1989 Honda 250X. All great machines. I pretty sure a few friends had blasters as well. I just remember liking my ATV because it had racks but it was not sporty enough and thought the Lakota would be perfect performance and some had a rear rack installed which would have been perfect since I used to load up camping gear on the weekends and take off into the woods.
Yea I feel like the original lakotas were like a hybrid between sport and utility quad
That's awsome, the same year quad was my first quad 🤙 awsome and super reliable 👌 definitely cool seeing it on your channel
I've been watching you for a while now, and when this video came out I went ahead and ordered some parts for a lakota I had sitting around. I threw a new oem intake boot and a 300ex carb with airbox delete and a snowmobile k&n. You do have to use a 300ex thumb throttle and cable though but man did it wake it up.
I’m digging the midsize compression quad wars dude.
Damn dude you’re really bringing the nostalgia back to me I rode with blasters lakotas Mojave’s etc with my 300ex back in the early/mid 2000s
This should be interesting to see. I know the trail blazer can make nearly 40 hp with some porting and a bigger carburetor it will be interesting to see how it stacks up.
I have an 05 trail blazer, they are an absolute blast, that thing gets abused and it still runs great, I think that episode of top quad is going to be awesome, can’t wait to see it
you can get the clutch to engage and rev it. you have to actually click it into gear but dont let off the shifter when its up. Then you can clutch dump it.
I remember having to hold the shifter all the way up then dropping it to pop the clutch
I'm hearing the same from a few other people; I'll give it a try!
You can adjust the slack in the clutch screw located on the clutch cover to make it go into neutral in between gears.
Thank you for the tip man! I am going to play with it
I've always held all the way up on the shifter it might work that way to do the "CLUTCH" drop love the video 👍 always kicking ass
Neat. I learned how to ride quads on one of those back in the day.
That’s awesome man!
Atv off-road fury 1 also introduced me to these quads, I’ve always wanted one.
That Quad looks like so much fun what a great find man suspension seems good nice I wish I found it 😁👍🏾
Yea man surprisingly the suspension is pretty good
When i was 11 i begged for this same bike on the showroom floor ... my dad bought us 2 suzuki LT160's lmao we drove the wheels off those bikes ... even though i wanted the lakota i sure was happy anyways . I cannot belive you found one in the condition !!! WOW IMPRESIVE AND IM JELOUS
Dude those 160s were a blast too though! One of my friends had one and we would hook up sled to it in the snow and for whatever reason, the 160 always did it the best
Just my son a basket case 87 Mojave for Christmas should have it rideable next week! He’s gonna lose his mind it’s his first quad!!
This makes me happy…….what a great Dad
I’ve owned a few mojaves and one thing I known is make sure you loctite the cam retainer bolts the caps will come loose and it will score the cams up and make sure the timing chain tensioner is working properly because with the double overhead cam set up the chain likes to stretch on these motors but other than that they are pretty reliable and fun for a 249cc motor the Kawasaki mojave was the most hi-tech atv on the market in 1987.
Man that is awesome to hear; good luck with the project!
ATV offroad fury 2 memories... my favorite bike before learning what cheat codes were was the Bombardier DS650. I actually saw someone ride one in my hood LOL
Oh yea, that's another machine you never really see. I think they're actually really fast though.
You can have a lot of fun on slow quad. Great video Mike 👍
let’s go man another build video!
Super excited to see the blaster I was hoping you would do a Blaster in this series 🤘
Almost got one of these for my 13th birthday. Ended up getting a honda 300ex instead. Still an awesome find
I'd say you were still winning back in the day
Love this opening
When i was a kid i used to rip around a Polaris Trail boss 250. It was an absolute dog but when you're like 8 years old its really fun.
Exactly man! As a kid your world is different. I never got to ride a trail boss but the blazer wasn't horrible - of course I was 13 when I rode one lmao
You seriously need to bring that slow learnin feller in the opening skit back alot more. That quirky guy cracked me up
Benjie? Haha, glad you liked the skit man!
Great Video Mike!! It is fun to ride a quite stock machine sometimes. Especially in a cool little area and nobody knows your there!! Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see more!
100% man! Thanks for the love on the video!
@@MichaelSabo absolutely Bro!!
You gotta hold that shifter all the way down or up and then drop it. You should get a good wheelie from it. Nice find though. Super clean lookin
Thank you for the tip man! I will try it
I love seeing videos like this about quads the average person could offord .
Thank you for the feedback man!
This should be a great series as usual. Keep up the great work
Can't wait for another top quad!
Really excited for the 300ex, not many videos of them and I have one so it’s always cool to see them
I am happy you found bike bring ur soul back to being young no matter how bleak it may be seriously great content always.
Watching you ride that makes me miss my old Honda fourtrax
Can’t wait for the top quad series with with keep up the good work Mike
Thank you Ethan!
I had both the Mohave and the Lakota, they were both solid quads and had lots of good memory's at the dunes in Oregon
I know on the auto clutch machines we rode back when, you would do a full depression/lift of the shifter and it would allow you to rev it up. Not a half way engaged. Anyway cool video. Love seeing the 90-00 stuff
Dope, atv offroad fury is where I was introduced to the 400ex haha
Such a great game
I was just building one of these and parts are sooo rare
That's a nice clean Lakota. Take good care of it
Really want to see an LT250R on this channel next! Maybe for the top quad?
I'd like to do a shootout with the three 250s - 250R, LT250R and Tecate-4
Sweet name drop on the KFX700. 🤙
nice score! got ATV Offroad Fury 2 vibes from it used to use it in that game along with the CT racing 400ex.
Yes it was! What a throwback
This thing is sweet Mike
Good find !!
🤘🤘
I love ATV Off-road Fury series!!!!!
I have an old Honda fourtrax 300 which is 2WD and has the semi auto trans. Great machine fun to toss around. I believe it's a 1986, not positive. Great video as usual keep up the content. 👍
I remember when the Lakota first came out it had front and rear racks. Didn't change much during it's run but it was a machine I always wanted to get but never did. Pretty sure same motor as the Bayou 300, but the Lakota had a hotter cam. There were several builds over the years on these I can recall, one was done by the old forum site ATV Connection, probably can't find the write up anymore on it but if you could might be a value to your project. Also I believe Four Stroke Tech used to build these up for xc racing.
No way! I need to check these out; I had no idea people raced these seriously.
@@MichaelSabo I'm trying to find the old build from ATV Connection but I can't find it. I wanna say FST had a 330cc , and like a 383cc kit for them, and also sold a high comp piston kit to .
Rode one of those when I was starting out, back in the day, was a very capable quad, after going from a honda 125 quad.
Oh man, that was probably a big step up from the 125!
Those we’re so cool. I had Mohave it was blast on trails. Very nimble and had plenty power. Smile per miles lol can’t wait see what you do to. It. Curious hear that new dg exhaust dg has just perfect tone to them.
For the hood, rumor is a smoothie 250r hood is almost a direct bolt on.
No way! If so that means a Lakota hood would fit the R...
Cant wait for this series blasters we’re my favorite growing up now I ride warriors so would love if you did a series on them at somepoint
I will get a Warrior on board one of these days!
Best intro yet mike 🤟!
And super nice barn find.
Haha, glad you liked it man!
First clutch quad I ever owned was a 87 Mojave back in 93 and in those days it smoked every riding buddy and his machines....utilities, yz80s, 200x's. Good machine
YZ80 is a good take down if it had a good rider that wasn't fat on it haha
@@MichaelSabo no we were all around 100# back then. Lol
Ive had a lot of fun on a blaster, I think that will be my sons next quad when he’s done with he kfx90
Warrior 350 for top quad would be sick. There's a ton of people still on warriors
I'll do one of those eventually
Hold the shifter up from neutral and dump it with some throttle to launch it. Also can do this technique to pop wheelies in 1st and 2nd gear
I want one of these seems like a lot of fun my sister has a 86 suzuki 300 quadrunner and its fun as well
i was obsessed w the mojave, then yrs later rode one n thought it was slow....nvr heard of this model...cool. lakoter wrks ur close enough to jerzy!
Love it 😀 can't wait to watch this one, however I feel like the 300ex is gonna easily dominate the pack a 250ex would have been more comparable gonna be an epic line up #savesportquads 🤙
You could be right man! I'm excited to see too
Looking forward to this.
I had one, they're fun. Rebuilt it and someone wanted something they can ride with their kid, so traded the Lakota and some money for a 2008 kfx450r and rode that a while. Bought a 400ex and sold the 450r for extra parts money to build the ex 🤘
Nice series of trades man and you ended up on a great machine!
@@MichaelSabo Thanks man ✌
Dude please keep doing the skits! Funny stuff!
PA is fricked on rn with the weather. Makes me not feel as bad that i'm rebuilding my YFZ! But it also being PA, we should get at least one day a month that's at least 50's or 60's lol. Great video!
Get a Suzuki ozark 250. I have got one, amazing machines fast and reliable. Would be great for the midsize quad contest
I have the DG exhaust on my 250 Mojave, it’s sounds bad ass 👍🏻
