I'd never heard on the DJI pocket camera, will definitely check it out after watching this!
Well done once again
Great information
With great content
The other part to your success is in your personalities even without actually knowing you on a day to day in the flesh
You both have likable personas the very first few episodes I was like hmmmm not sure but now
As soon as we see a new post or video we are straight on it
Keep up the good work
Cheers Guys
Yes useful. Love the little camera.
@@DesiCoupleDownUnder The Patrol will just complete your camera set up hey 😂😜 but seriously, that’s a very cool setup 😎
Great vid guys, love your honesty and genuineness (if that’s a word). Love the fact that you started with the basics and keep learning, improving and upgrading. Your Thursday vids are helping us Melbournians get through another lockdown. Keep up the great work
Thanks so much for your kind feedback 😁🙌🏻 we won’t stop anytime soon and if we weren’t ‘up to date’ by only a couple of weeks we’d have extra content our for you guys in VIC! Stay positive, it will pass! 🙌🏻🙏🏻
It’s bonza to see genuine people like yourself kick arse. Keep up the awesome work.
Thanks Shaun. It's pretty crazy, even we still get wowed ourselves with what has come of Big Oz 😲
@@BigOzExplorers let me know when you’ve got an idea of where you’re going in Victoria. Would love to catch up , say hello and share a Jameson or 2.
@@shaunmatthews9680 definitely send us another message/comment when we’re getting near the border and we can plan from there. Cheers 🍻
@@BigOzExplorers sounds good
Great advice guys! Learnt a fair bit from this video, mostly to start small! You have inspired my wife to buy a DJI mini for me to use! You guys are amazing (I owe you a box of Northern)!
Haha Clay, that is awesome!! Just don’t forget the DJI care refresh in case you have any accidents! It’ll be well worth the extra money 😁🙌🏻 hopefully catch you on the road somewhere 👍🏻
Great content. You have an enthusiastic Canadian follower from British Columbia and I will continue watching. I spent a year offshore in Bass Straights on the rigs diving and loved my time there. Will return one day and travel the country. Gary McAninch
So much info guys. Fantastic to know ur honest thoughts on it all. I reckon I’ll get that back pack for my gear as it’s all over the place right now. Keep up the good work! Adam
Hell yes! Fantastic episode! 🏅
Thank you, Chris and Sian great info I've been waiting for this one. So much valuable info for techie and how to's for me! The sounds of the bush are always ok so never worry about that.
As Lappers in waiting your info is invaluable, thank you. 🙏🏻 I've written about travel for 10+ years but videography and editing is a new skill to learn. 👌🏻
Cheers Annette
That’s awesome Annette, thank you! So glad we could help you with some info and how to’s 😁👍🏻
Love your authenticity, thanks guys, enjoy following your journey! Safe travels!
Loved this episode 💜 We are starting to film our travels with our senior Jack Russell’s for family and friends so this episode was incredibly informative.
Key to your success - Like everyone else has said, you are a genuine family filming what you love.
Keep it up guys and thanks for letting us join you on your travels 🇦🇺
Glad we could help Traci! Look forward to hearing of your travels when you start filming 🥰🙌🏻
Cool episode, its very interesting to see what people use to film and take pictures with and love the drones.... PS the birds in the background/foreground make the episode, just saying haha
Thanks mate! And I guess the Corellas give it a bit of personality hey 😂🤷🏼♀️ Mother Nature wanted to get involved lol
@@BigOzExplorers thats it.
That was absolutely magic content guys. Thanks heaps for keeping it simple and enjoyable. Love following your adventure
Thanks Matt 😁🤟🏻
Chris & Sian I've been following you guys forever and you both have gone to the next level over the amount of filming you guys do I feel that I know you both and we haven't YET met (one day) so honest and down to earth my question how do deal with the knobs that give you a thumbs down because it upsets me !! let alone what it does to you ?
Agreed! I hate thumbs down. Pointless. Just leaves you wondering what someone didn’t like when your. Ideas are excellent
Hey Paul, if we were 100% thumbs up all the time we’d have no room to improve. 😉 There is always someone who is unhappy. You can’t please everyone and if you try to, you end up pleasing no one. We don’t take the thumbs down personally and have generally speaking, grown a thick skin for any keyboard heroes we encounter. We love what we do and so do the majority of our audience so we won’t change a thing for a few Debbie downers. 🥰🙌🏻
Great video and we also loved the sound of the Corellas! I think one of the keys to your success is you are such a lovely couple with great chemistry. We love the quality of your videos and your drone footage is stunning. The sound quality is also really good. Keep doing what you enjoy and we'll keep following your journey.
Thanks guys, thats awesome to hear! I think some you tubers get caught up in being like another RUclips channel they have seen but that’s when things go wrong or don’t work… we go to the beat of our own drum and if people like it they’ll follow along. Cheers for following our journey and your feedback 🥰
Thanks guys! That was incredible. We love what you guys do as youre soooo natural. You share everything and dont appear to hold things back. Your voices came through very clear. We could hear the corella but it was in the back ground faintly. Sian you remind me of myself as Im accident proned as well lol add another 30 yrs onto your age though. Guys please keep the content coming as we certainly enjoy it. Im not sucking up but you guys are the ones on You Tube that we enjoy the most. I seem to be running out of your content 😔 thats how much we watch you guys. Keep enjoying what your doing as that gives us the enjoyment at home. Safe travels and take care.
Thanks Kerri for the feedback! And your right, what you see is what you get on and off camera! 📸 Hopefully we can get out bulk content so you’ve got heaps to catch up on 😁🙏🏻😉
That's why you guy's are having success. Just down to earth and easy and entertaining to watch 👍
Thanks Glenn 🥰🥰
Great job, lots of handy info, casual presentation, found it useful thanks. Its all there to see how much you've learned. Awesome footage. Also great to watch the kids absolutely loving it and growing.
Thanks mate, I kinda feel like the kids have a whole extended RUclips family that know them as well as we do! ☺️
Excellent guys, I was looking forward to this one. Tools of the trade explained so well. Thankyou
No problem Jill 🤟🏻☺️
Your secret to your success is that your genuine and good people. Great video, certainly a lot of time and programs to utilise to with all that editing!
Thanks Peter, we try to be, but it’s worth it! Why be anything but yourself 🥰🙌🏻
What a great episode, exactly what I was looking for - fantastic informative episode.
Loved this episode. I work in the TV industry and your product is just as professional (or more so for that matter) than most big budget TV shows. Keep up the great work and thanks again for sharing your experiences with all of us. 😎
Thanks Paul, I appreciate that comment more than you know! 🥰🙌🏻 cheers and catch you next week 🤟🏻
Hi guys another great video. I would have to say since you started your channel you have come a long way and have matured as RUclipsrs
Thanks David, I agree, we have come so far and learnt so much on camera and off from both you guys, other travellers and just generally this lifestyle! 🥰🙌🏻
Great insight from you guys on the camera gear it’s very interesting to see I use much the same gear just needing more time for myself to get out
Always time that’s the issue hey!! Glad to share what we’ve learned so far 🥰🙌🏻
Thankyou very much, this was a very informative episode and a great behind the scenes one, keep up the good work
Thanks Sean, always interesting to see what is going on behind the camera hey! Catch you next episode 🤟🏻☺️
Very informative. I struggle to just use my camera. Love your content and watching your kids grow up.
Type in the details of your camera/phone on RUclips and I reckon you’ll find a heap of help. RUclips is great for learning anything tech related in an easy way 🥰🙌🏻
Hey crew. Just thought I’d let you know that you are the no. 1 RUclips channel we sit down to watch. Your not big noting your setup. More focused on the experience of where you are and tips and to do things. Keep the content rolling. Thanks for the content
Thanks Michael 🥰🙌🏻 That’s our aim to help others and just give bulk information where we can! I’m glad we aren’t about what we own, having the best of the best doesn’t make you the best of the best if you know what I mean, they’re just things… thanks again for your feedback and for tuning in with us, really appreciate your support ☺️🤟🏻
Great video super informative. Your camera gear is just like when you start out caravanning/camping you slowly work out what works and what doesn’t you learn and upgrade as you go and when you can afford it. Look forward to the next episode, would love to meet you one day.,
Yes that’s exactly what it is like! But as you learn lessons etc 🥰
Always happy to catch up if we are getting close, just send us a message 😁🙌🏻
That was pretty cool, I’m going to avoid the obvious joke about which camera goes in the bedroom 😂😂😂. You were talking about “ making” it on RUclips and you hit the nail on the head , you guys are successful because your so normal down to earth likeable people on top of that you have great content keep up the great work. Fun fact I watched this episode with the exact head phones you have 👍👍🍺
Thanks Steve, what you see is what you get with us and apparently that works lol 😜They're a bloody good headset hey, I love them!! 🥰🥰
Awesome episode guys, we have started filming our travels and putting it up on our channel for the same reasons (family and friends). Starting with a GoPro our phones but that’s right just starting. Hi Chris and Sian
Great info and education.
We are actually in Broome in the caravan park as yourself and family.
Hey guys, oh really, the Gateway Park? We have just moved on this morning to our booking we made a few weeks ago further in Broome. We needed somewhere for a couple of nights and Gateway was the only one we could get into at short notice! Should have come and said hello 👋🏻 🥰
Well done guys really enjoyed this episode
The Sony A6100 is not a Dslr but a mirrorless camera and the UV filter is pretty much useless. Do love your videos and have been following from day 1, we love following you guys, keep it up please.
As I said, still learning lol 😂 someone else mentioned that earlier too… thanks for the feedback still ☺️🤟🏻

Thanks Tony 🙏🏻
really helpful guys thank you
No problem guys 😁🤟🏻
Please dont edit out the sounds of the bush, it is so relaxing almost of like i was there. love your drone footage
We don’t edit the sounds out generally but these birdies were very loud, if we didn’t have mics you wouldn’t know what we were talking about over the birds. 🐦 We love nature too and always leave the sounds intact on our episodes, just this one was a little more formal ☺️
Great work! Would love you to run through what video formats and settings you use to ensure good quality on RUclips. Do you record in 4K for example? Maybe a short video covering the technical aspects of making a RUclips video.
Yes good thinking. For your reference though, we upload in 1080p and film in 2.7k 60fps (so I’ve got a little bit of zoom room in editing) 😁
Great episode with very informative content. With so much video and camera footage, what storage solutions are you using. Wondering how to store so much data and also share access with family members. Appreciate any thoughts/ experience as to how you have conquered data storage. Thanks
We just use 4TB portable hard drives. Easiest way to access anything at any moment. Sometimes we are off grid and don’t have phone service so using a cloud type service wouldn’t work!
Nice Vid, Lots of good tips...
Thanks Mark 😁👍🏻
Hey! We have the same Sony lenses lol... Where did you find your uv & polarised lenses? Every one that I've found doesn't screw on and doesn't fit properly (all ebay spec).
Awesome video, heaps of information.. Those lil dji go cameras seem cool, it's good that you can use external audio, I use the rode wireless go system, so it's good to see that the dji has that compatibility. I've tried to avoid gopro as much as possible to where I actually record with my Samsung galaxy and just use a mobile phone gimbal.
Cheers for the episode! Glad I finally had enough time to watch an episode early.
Cheers & beers
Hey Eehan,
We got ours from Camera Warehouse in a store, they were super helpful with everything and anything and we’re able to order in anything they didn’t have. I didn’t even realise there was a thread at the end of the lens until she told us 😂
I remember looking into the Rode wireless system but I think at the time you could only have one mic and we wanted two? Saramonic is not as readily available in Australia so I had to order the set from overseas but it is good to get the two lots of audio 😁
We avoid GoPro now as well unless action camera related. We use our phones for mainly images and try not to video on them if we can help it (even through they’re supposed to give equivalent videos)
Cheers for tuning in and sorry for the late the reply! 🤟🏻
Dont edit the correlias sounds great can still here you ,love your show and yes love how you are you keep it up guys.
I didn’t need to edit them out with the mics we had on, I don’t mind. Them being. There as long as you can still hear us talking lol 😝 it sounds SO much launder when we’re we’re there doing it! 😂 Thanks for watching ☺️🙌🏻
Thank you for the chat. 👍
No problem mate 😁🙌🏻
Another great episode again 👍 Love the Corella Choir 🦜But what was language you speak when explaining cameras ,drones and all that tech stuff ? 🤔 Didn’t understand a thing 🥴 . Could I ask a favour ?(I hope you said yes ) could we see more of the wildlife in your travels , great or small ? I love me birds and all nature in general . Cool thanks 👋✌️
Haha the tech talk can get a bit confusing hey!! We are happy to put more nature into our series, it just depends when we see animals! Believe it or not, Australian outback wildlife can be quite elusive usually lol
Thanks guys, it’s so helpful. Do you guys use a external hard drive for your storage?
Definitely! We are on our fourth now… 4TB each time, so much footage lol
Fantastic information and ideas. You are doing a great job just being you. We love your episodes. Quick question- how do you improve audio with a go pro? Can you get a microphone to attach? We are trying to use ours more but the audio is frustrating me. As it’s either not clear or wind interference.
Thanks Cover! Ok so, GoPro 8 has the ability to use a Media Mod which is an outer casing with a built in shotgun mic both front and back. It’s not too bad but if it’s really windy, it doesn’t make much difference at all. We ended up attaching a Rode mic directly to the go pro media mod and it lived on there with a dead kitten all the time (wind cancelling fluffy thing lol)… The Media Mod makes the camera not waterproof though as you have to take off your side door on the GoPro to use it but the media mod makes the GoPro compatible with an external mic, catch 22. We used to have that one for vlog recording and a second one for water/action shots/b roll stuff.
Good advice. Go pro I have had for ages. Probably need to update. Any suggestions there? I don't think I would make a RUclips video, just content for our life memories so wouldn't need much other than a go pro?
Loved that dome you mentioned for the go pro water shots and three suction mount.
Heaps of great information in that video, very informative. Loved it.
I see you attracted some thumbs down. Not sure why, you can always not watch it or post constructive feedback?
Anyway have fun! Thanks again. 👍
I feel like you may have answered your own question there! Maybe the latest gopro would be the best update? The 9 is pretty fandangle with the screen on both sides 😍 it really depends if your planning on using it around water, for videos, photography… there are just so many options!
As for thumbs down, don’t worry about it, we don’t! You can’t please everyone and not everyone wants to make a comment if there is a negative thing to say! The joys of RUclips 🙃
Thanks for tuning in legends 😁
Very informative video thanks guys. . Not sure if I missed it or you never really spoke of it but as a beginner where do you get your sound tracks for you videos.
Ohhh I didn’t even think about that!! We use a website called epidemic sound which is a paid subscription for royalty free music! A lot of channels use it (YBS, sailing la vagabond etc..) so I often hear the same songs on their channels too 😉 we all seem to pick the good ones lol
@@BigOzExplorers thanks heaps for your response. You guys rock.
thanks for the info. I think I will get a cheapie at xmas to start with cos I am odds on to crash it.
That's a good place to start, it's a lot of money to invested especially if its a brand new skill! (I still can't fly it lol)
Nugget looks slim and toned in that photo
I think he appreciates this comment a lot lol… I showed him and he’s like, yeah I do actually 😂 more like when I met him years ago 😜 we’re both too comfortable now to worry about the waist lines 😉
Great video guys, and good information about drone use, but please don't rely on the DJI app, it does not reflect the casa rules which is the only thing to look at for drones
Oh definitely not, we have about 5 apps we check when in doubt and CASA online 😉 or just ask the owner of the land, council, Ranger etc too!
Do you guys usually use the Pocket 2’s wide lens or record it without it?
We rarely use the lens cover, the few times we tried in the beginning we nearly lost it! Down fall of having kids and multitasking lol
@@BigOzExplorers Yeah understand lol
Looks like it gives decent wide footage even without it. Thanks guys 🤙🏽
Hey great episode. Have you guys done your rpa to be able to fly the drones legally.
Yes we have, we don’t need a licence as we fall into an excluded category but we have the rpa operator accreditation, well Chris does, not me lol. We didn’t go into detail on this as most people fly under the ‘for fun’ category and want to know the basics on where to fly for general public casa rules.
The Sony isnt a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex)...its a mirrorless camera...... UV filters are a throw back to the old "35mm film days" and are not a requirement for Digital Cameras......informative upload tho giving people some understanding of whats involved, equipment wise....
Well there you go, still learning see 😂 hopefully I was more helpful with the rest of the info ☺️🙏🏻
What do you keep all the spares in ? Done batteries etc? I find the bag we have is way to heavy to carry if going on a walk etc. I like this bag you have
We take the three drone batteries all the time, the GoPro batteries are in the top zip section and the camera batteries are only tiny in one of the front pockets. I can be heavy but we take turns if needs be, or one of us deals with Jack and the other the backpack 😂
@@BigOzExplorers forgot to ask how do you deal with wind noise on the GoPro? I did some footage while we were away and the wind noise was very noticeable
another good show, thanks. My question for you is; now with all the restrictions on drone flying, how do you get around the rule flying drones around people and in national parks and caravan parks. I have a drone and can't find anywhere that I'm permitted to fly it. so frustrating
All about timing in some places! There are others where we also just don’t fly it. Every scenario is different 🙌🏻
24:34 do the mic’s give any indication they are about to power off when running flat? So as not to leave you without sound for your footage?
No unfortunately! :( We're pretty good for checking though and you can see the audio bar on the GoPro changes as it picks up ambient sound more.
Hi, we will be travelling oz soon, I’ve looked back on a few of your videos looking for those all weather shoes you use, what were they and where do we get them from ?, thanks, also I’m sure it was youse that had some collapsible chairs you highly recommended, can you tell us what they were and where to get them , maybe the prices on shoes and chairs , thanks again .. Hi Lawrence, we use the Aleader Xdrain Classic 2.0 water shoes ☺️ they are fantastic! Not sure on the chairs you are talking about though? We have had quite a few in our time on the road now! Hopefully catch you out on the road somewhere 😁👍🏻

@@lawrencedaniels3401 the shoes are direct from Aleader at www.aleadergear.com … I’m. It sure the seats were us, we have pretty bulky chairs (because they’re comfortable lol) 😉 thanks for getting in touch, hope this all helps 😁🙌🏻
@@BigOzExplorers thanks, yes it must have been someone else that had the seats. , and I will be looking up those shoes, you make them sound great, we need comfortable and all weather shoes and yours seem to be what we are after, thanks from Laurie and Sabine 👍😃
How do you get around the law of VLOS when flying the FPV drone?
You can connect a secondary screen to the headset and watch on a phone instead ☺️
@@BigOzExplorers just a heads up to be aware of given your safety concerns. To fly FPV you need to be a member of a model aircraft assc. with approval to fly FPV, or apply to CASA for approval to fly FPV recreationally or apply to casa to fly with Extended VLOS commercially. For VLOS you must be able too see the drone in the air with your own eyes.
Hi guy's have a question in relation to stone protection on your travels .. do you have anything protecting your rear window from stone throw back
Cheers Dave
Hey Dave, we actually don’t have anything in place, we’ve never had stones hit the window ever, until recently… We had a few flicking up and it was due to the new mudflaps Chris had put on that we’re too long. We took off 10cm from the bottom and haven’t had any issues or stones flicking since.
@@BigOzExplorers thanks for the info nice to know with all the dirt you guy's have travelled.

Many people start with a smart phone. Is this what you did before you upgraded?
We have iPhones and use them for pictures even now on socials but for the videos we started with the GoPro which we bought before we left 🥰
When are you going to do more New South Wales stuff
When we get to New South Wales 😜 will be a while yet, as we work our way around anticlockwise ☺️
